As long as you don't mind it being 'darked on' and possibly being exposed to 'spider willies'. MN trufax.

I do! Especially with this heat. Dry by 9am.

I always do it. Saves time before going to work.

happidayss · 07/07/2026 00:49

No because the neighbours cats would
spray piss up it

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2026 00:52

It's fine, no issues. I do this all the time.

The 'darked on' and 'spider willies' thing wasn't funny the first time and got old pretty quick.

Yes, I realise I'm probably being a humourless twat.

KittytheHare · 07/07/2026 00:54

What on earth do you think would happen to your washing overnight? These posts baffle me.
Also the cringeworthy “darked on”and “spider willies” was never funny,

FeralWoman · 07/07/2026 00:56

Not odd at all. It means it can start drying as soon as the sun is up and you’re not out in the heat and sunlight getting hot and sunburnt.

Nothing is going to happen, but affter reading some threads on here it sounded like i was odd for doing it.
And the darked on crap ive never heard of it until tonight, after reading an old thread.
I still dont get it.

Eh!!!!! Pray tell more????? Spider willies 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sounds like a good plan. I can’t hang out coloured clothes in direct sun for too long (Aus) as they get bleached. I ruined a whole lot of navy kids’ sport uniform shortly after we arrived as I left it out all day.

CombatBarbie · 07/07/2026 01:29

As long as your confident you're not going to get a shower during the night, I used to do it all the time when I lived overseas.

JillyComeLately · 07/07/2026 01:31

I have hung washing out at night for years. Towels and sheets smell lovely after a night out.
The worst thing that can happen is finding a passing bird has pooed on something, but that happens rarely.

When I was young - a long, long, time ago - it was a social crime to leave washing out over night on the council estate we lived on. " She leaves her washing out" was a damning comment to make about someone.
I think those days are thankfully long gone and if it's helpful or convenient to have washing out over night then there is no reason not to do it.

I remember my Grandma saying something like this. The feeling seemed to be that if you left your washing out overnight then the perverts that might lurk in the shadows would come out and pinch your knickers. There was also a strict order about how you hung the washing out. Nearest the house had to be the underwear, tops and shirts next and sheets/ towels furthest away ( but nearest the back gate). Again I think it was some sort of left over from Edwardian prudery on who could see your pants.
Personally I leave mine out all night on " the whirly".

I did before dh retired, now I have my personal washerman no need to- he’s just texted to say his on load 3 today!

Shadymeadow · 07/07/2026 11:24

Yes.

Silverbirchleaf · 07/07/2026 11:32

I would do that.

My mum used to complain about neighbours leaving their washing out all the time. And even worse not putting the washing line away once all dried. My dad used to find it so annoying.

Are your neighbour's cats doing headstands or something? Surely you have your washing raised up high enough that it's well out of squirting range?

DameOfThrones · 07/07/2026 11:43

No it's not odd, it's good time management.

But even if anyone thought it was odd, why would that matter?
