I’ve been doing this out at around 6pm and then I have a timer on the wash to be finished at 7am and I run out before leaving for work at 8.30 and swap it over ! Then if there’s a 3rd load that goes on timer to be done when I get In from work for another swap.

thats 3 loads in a day 🤣🤣🤣

HarryKanesonfire · 07/07/2026 13:59

The spiders where I live haven’t got willies but I’d still rather my washing wasn’t out over night.

LoafofSellotape · 07/07/2026 14:04

I do it all the time then get it in first thing.

PenandPip · 07/07/2026 14:08

I always do it. Once less thing to do in the morning.

iloveanearlynight · 07/07/2026 14:10

Perfectly fine to do that. I agree, the darked on and spider willies is extremely tedious.

TheLambtonWorm · 07/07/2026 14:13

Personally I wouldn't because our rotary drier is a home for spiders and by morning if it's left open, it's covered in cobwebs and flies so I don't want that to happen to the clothes 😂

chirrupybird · 07/07/2026 14:18

I would be more worried about the pigeons that roost in our trees and poo everywhere. It would have to be a big cat to pee on our washing I can only just reach the line to hang things out. But I run the washing machine in the early hours for cheap electric so it's ready to go out when I get up at 5am.

DarkchocolateAndtea · 07/07/2026 14:23

Just be prepared to give it a good shake for creepy crawlies! I just stick washer on a timer so it is ready to hang out first thing. But fine op, do what works for you, and fits your schedule.

No because the neighbours cats would
spray piss up it

That’s quite some skill 😂

WonderWeeksArentReal · 07/07/2026 14:27

I do it regularly on work days. Wash goes on while I'm at work, hang it up when I get home, take it down the after work the next day. Never had a issues with bird poo or cat piss and only very occasional spiders.

Otherwise I'd hardly get any washing done during the week as I work FT and we don't have a tumble dryer.

HoppingPavlova · 07/07/2026 14:31

???. I’m in Aust where it’s hot enough this is standard. Why would it even be a question?

In Summer, I hang out washing of a night. It’s dried by midday and then I immediately hang another load out and get it in of a night. That means I get 20kg total dried a day!

MsTrish · 07/07/2026 14:36

I’m in Scotland so, no chance. Rain never off the table.

FullLondonEye · 07/07/2026 14:42

In Spain. The hot part. Darks and colours have to go out overnight this time of year. If you hang them in the day they'll discolour too quick. Whites I put out in the day because that's obviously not a problem.

Betty197 · 07/07/2026 14:47

I do. That was dry by around 9am and can bring it in. If it’s put out to dry when very hot, they dry so quick they go stiff. Too hot to put tumble on to soften them when it’s really hot

picklepottle · 07/07/2026 15:01

I was thinking about this a few days ago, wondering why I’d never done it! I am going to do it this evening for the first time. I am not worried about spider willies 😊

Projectprincesschaos · 07/07/2026 15:04

I just want to say respect to those who are organised enough to strategically dry washing this way

I will add this to my list aspirations

Rainbow1235 · 07/07/2026 15:14

I always hang mine out about 7 pm and by 9 in morning it’s bone dry

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 07/07/2026 15:16

I was out after 11 last night looking for bats <long story don’t ask!> and the air smelt so fragrant and beautiful I am actually going to time a load tonight to go out so it will smell better!

I am just not organised enough to get up early in the morning! I won’t have the machine on overnight as a relative was a fire fighter.

OriginalSkang · 07/07/2026 15:18

I got bat shit on mine once, doing this

Sounds like a good plan. I can’t hang out coloured clothes in direct sun for too long (Aus) as they get bleached. I ruined a whole lot of navy kids’ sport uniform shortly after we arrived as I left it out all day.

hang everything inside out for this reason

PuppyMonkey · 07/07/2026 17:24

I just couldn’t do it personally because of the darked on scenario. Shock

It’s far easier to just put in on a clothes horse indoors and it’ll be dry by morning anyway.

I remember my Grandma saying something like this. The feeling seemed to be that if you left your washing out overnight then the perverts that might lurk in the shadows would come out and pinch your knickers. There was also a strict order about how you hung the washing out. Nearest the house had to be the underwear, tops and shirts next and sheets/ towels furthest away ( but nearest the back gate). Again I think it was some sort of left over from Edwardian prudery on who could see your pants.
Personally I leave mine out all night on " the whirly".

Knickers in-by, towels out, clothes in the middle.

Makes sense. Heavier items take longer, so hang them in the wind, away from the shelter of the house.

rwalker · 07/07/2026 17:27

Do it all the time sometimes do it in winter but check humidity on forecast as it if a lot wetter in the morning than when I hung it out but dry by time get in from work

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/07/2026 17:32

I do it all the time. I haven’t ever noticed darkening or spider sperm on our clothes
