The paranormal

I'm starting out as a paranormal investigator

I've teamed up with someone , he has done investigations before and has some equipment.

We're going to an abandoned asylum. It will be my first attempt at this stuff . I'm open minded , but not scared .

If this goes ok we will collaborate and get more equipment to share .

He claims to be a medium . I'm going as the more scientific person - I don't believe or disbelieve. So I want to see for myself !

I'm really excited about this . Watch this space !

How well do you know him?

damnedwhatever · 21/02/2024 23:35

I don't . But I'm perfectly able to handle myself . I'm not worried about my safety. He has a website and we've been talking for a few months . There is nothing untoward and we both appear to have an interest in the paranormal. If when we meet I get a vibe - I won't be going .

Please don’t go alone to a deserted place with this weird bloke OP.

Please don’t go alone to a deserted place with this weird bloke OP.

He seems ok . I'm trained in self defence techniques and I'm not worried regarding that issue !

He seems very focused on the job in hand . Not on me .

Don't be ridiculous. Do not go alone with him to a deserted building.

DifferentAlgebra · 21/02/2024 23:38

OP, it’s not the supernatural you need to be worried about in this scenario. Give your head a wobble, and don’t head to someone deserted with a total stranger who thinks he can talk to dead people.

TheSlantedOwl · 21/02/2024 23:38

It’s a really bad idea. Sorry Op. At the very least take someone else with you.

ShareTheDuvet · 21/02/2024 23:39

Yes why not take a friend?? That seems totally insane 😳

damnedwhatever · 21/02/2024 23:41

I can take someone with me .

But I'm genuinely not concerned that my safety is compromised with this person .

That sounds so interesting. I'd love to do a paranormal investigation - I'm just too scared 😂

Oneofthesurvivors · 21/02/2024 23:44

Well you don't have any common sense, let alone any extra sensory sense.

Teasie123 · 21/02/2024 23:44

@damnedwhatever , have saved this thread. Love this kind of stuff.!!!🤭🤭🤭

Thanks that's duper helpful.

Genuinely I am not worried for my safety in this scenario.

I'm not stupid .

We are collaborating. I'll have a phone with me . If I got any weird vibe I wouldn't be going . I am not going to end up raped and murdered in a disused asylum! That's way to cliche 😂

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/02/2024 23:52

How on earth does one even get access to a disused asylum?

Some abandoned buildings are easily accessible.

If no one is harming anything I see no reason not to go .

And sometimes permission is sought beforehand in buildings or locations with a lot of reported activity- if you believe that sort of thing .

I am going as a sceptic .

Usually people just climb a wall or get through fencing — there are urbex websites and forums that exchange tips and photos. (There’s a large ruined convent just over the wall from us.)

78Summer · 22/02/2024 00:02

It’s not the dead we should be worried about it’s the living.

Elphame · 22/02/2024 10:17

I shall we watching this thread with interest

Mammyloveswine · 22/02/2024 10:19

👀

Runningwildish · 22/02/2024 10:21

Let's hope OP returns to update us without the use of a ouja board

CurlewKate · 22/02/2024 10:25

Well, if you "see" anything you'll know he's a fraud. So there's that.

GrazingSheep · 25/02/2024 12:14

Unbelievable.

Pigeonqueen · 25/02/2024 12:27

Apart from the obvious dangers that others have pointed out there’s the real danger of the building itself being unsafe.

OldTinHat · 25/02/2024 12:29

I started a group 25yrs ago doing this but we always had permission to visit stable buildings. Not wander around empty, falling apart vacant buildings. That's stupid and won't help your reputation.

We researched, spent months in each location, looked at the history, were very scientific and even had equipment specifically designed for us to rule out the common issues such as (for example) infrasound.

We were constantly asked to be, and were, on TV, radio, in media publications. We've been part of university studies.

No offence, but you need to be very careful skipping about abandoned places with someone you don't know. You need to research, have permission, have insurance. And a mobile phone and a rape alarm if you're seriously going to go off with someone you don't know. Make sure you tell friends/family where you're going, when and give them his details. Tell them if you don't text/call by a certain time, to call emergency services.

This is not a jolly, joke hobby to share with a complete stranger. But I will throw in a funny anecdote - we were asked to visit a property in a town. I asked our medium and another member to join me. We got lost. As I pulled into a garage to ask for directions (no mobile signal), I yelled 'how the fuck can we be lost with a medium and a copper in the car?!'. (We had a few police officers as part of our group.)
