Psychic mediums. How Real are they?

MrsM1717 · 17/07/2020 01:04

I have had 2 readings and both were an expensive waste of time. I have attended many group readings as well and never had anything, I went to one group reading unaware that I was 6 months pregnant and it wasn’t picked up. Since then I lost all faith.
I’m not lost or looking for anything, Thankfully I haven’t been through anything traumatic. I just want to know if it’s real. I'm a very spiritual person so it makes sense for me to believe but I just can't based on my experience.
I have read many readings on here and from the comments people seem genuine. So if anyone could give me a reading on here I would really appreciate it.
TIA

Of course they're not real.

MountainPeakGeek · 17/07/2020 01:32

They're just not. Not even a little bit real.

backseatcookers · 17/07/2020 01:40

They prey on vulnerable people to gain either money or attention. Not real. Confirmation bias plays a huge part in people who say they had a positive experience and I don't begrudge that I guess if it made the person feel better or heal in some way. But it isn't real.

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 17/07/2020 01:45

It's not real, please don't waste anymore of your money on this.

Floralnomad · 17/07/2020 01:56

It’s all absolute drivel , if it’s being done for free and gives people comfort then it’s harmless drivel .

MrsM1717 · 17/07/2020 13:45

Thanks for the replies, I know your all right. Just curious... I'll remain a sceptic unless proven otherwise.

@MrsM1717 I think their real you just need to find the 'REAL Ones' defo do research about the person you go to see and check all reviews, I went an saw one and he picked on my partners mum who had passed when he was a little boy he told me stuff about her without me agreeing or disagreeing if it was true or if I knew who it was he was talking about, was really sad that my dad didn't come through tho! :( I still believe tho, everything he told me about my partners mum was true. Down to a T xx

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/09/2020 16:23

My overall experience is that the vast majority are charlatans.

I have had maybe 2 say genuinely insightful things. The rest chancing bollocks of the sort that could apply to anyone.

Livedandlearned · 02/09/2020 16:25

I agree about chancing ones and real ones

MadisonMontgomery · 02/09/2020 16:27

I always thought it was a load of rubbish until a friend & I went to a psychic reading thing - the medium knew so much about me and my deceased family members, it was actually really creepy. I have no idea how she knew - she didn’t know my name, we hadn’t booked tickets or anything, literally just walked in on a whim. I know about confirmation bias etc but it was just so spot on, for example she said she was hearing Rihanna music - which was what I had been listening to when I was getting ready to go out that evening.

Roselilly36 · 02/09/2020 16:29

I have had readings and they have been very positive experiences for me. But good & bad in every profession I suppose

Rigamorph · 02/09/2020 16:35

There are examples of people who seem to have 'psychic' connections and can tell what others are thinking, or read their minds....
...but any studies on this seem to show links are between close friends and family, and these abilities are often not things that can be necessarily controlled.
(Look up Rupert Sheldrake - his studies on people knowing who is ringing the phone - strangers have a slightly better than chance probability but some pairs of people have very strong ability).
I think most people who claim to know things about strangers and 'on demand' are doing it to make money.

Sitdowncupoftea · 06/09/2020 00:36

There are people out there that do have the ability however many out there claim to be and are charlatans.

loutypips · 10/09/2020 22:58

Most are like Derren Brown and are just really good at reading people. But I did see a woman a few years ago that knew some incredible stuff. She couldn't have researched me as I didn't give my name. When we listened back to the recording people that she named that I said I didn't know, my Nan recognised the names of her grandparents.
She named a great uncle and his son and said that we should contact them. The son had a heart attack shortly after.
She named another uncle and his dad, none of these have particularly common names.
She said that my husband was in uniform and would be moving far away (a few months after we split and he did end up a distance away).
I've seen a couple of others that are just picking random names and guessing at things - none like her. Very odd.

They are a rip off, take your money for waffle.
I wish they predicted this year...I mean predicted not so waffle about bad times.

Con artists the lit of tbem

peakotter · 10/09/2020 23:14

The vast majority are con artists.

However I do believe in a spirit world. But I see no evidence that any medium is connecting with a deceased person rather than an evil spirit or similar, they can all have the same knowledge of someone’s life. So I personally would steer well clear of them.

If there is a spirit world then we have to be very careful with meddling in it. I prefer to connect directly via God rather than using a medium or psychic.

Devlesko · 10/09/2020 23:30

We are very real.
We are good at reading people, anyone sensitive enough can do it.
No it isn't conning people it's entertainment and not to be taken seriously.
The women in my family are taught the skills from an early age if they want to know, it's dying out now though and people without a clue are making money conning people.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 10/09/2020 23:31

I went to a Derren Brown show. Was amazing, he demonstrated how easily you can be deceived by mediums. He asked a few of the audience to line up on the stage. I’ll never forget it as he had to stop with one lady as she got so upset as he was so accurate, even tho he reminded her it was not real.

Lozz22 · 10/09/2020 23:37

I used to believe in it. I don't anymore. Not after requesting a reading done to bring me closure by seeing if the Baby I lost was at peace. I was told they can't connect with under 18's

Komacho · 10/09/2020 23:56

If you claim to be psychic when you're not (which you aren't) you're a con artist.

So not real then, nice of you to confirm it.

Do you tell people it's not real and just for entertainment before you take their money?

sashh · 11/09/2020 05:06

If psychics were real we would know what happened ti MH 370 and where MM is.

And surely someone would have told Winnie Johnson where her son was buried.

Devlesko · 11/09/2020 13:04

Do you tell people it's not real and just for entertainment before you take their money?

If you don't want to lose your business, yes, it's the law.
Since 2016 iirc.
A good move imo, stops people taking it to seriously.

Mable66 · 20/09/2020 16:48

I've had had email readings done several times. Probably when I'm desperate for some hope in life.

I have had readings done through tim dehaney. Quite honestly didn't feel he picked up anything and just wrote random waffle at me. Nothing felt personal.

Anne Marie Kell. I really like this women. I often find she just gives motherly advice and I appreciate her views on things. I do feel safe with her readings and sometimes picks up on things too. She seems very genuine and warm.

Lily porter. She is probably the most unkind women. She is very harsh, judgemental and unhelpful. She actually upset me. She's the opposite to her website.

Psychic whispers/Mesina I feel is a good one. Very generous with her readings. I've never felt disappointed. I feel she focuses on things and gives good detail. She is non judgemental. Kind.

Suzy rayne. I was in early pregnancy and she predicted I'd have a girl on the 21st February. Around 7lb 6. She was a girl, born the 21st Feb weighing 7lb 9oz.

I would love a real face to face one, one day.
