Some years ago my boyfriend made me go along to one of these evenings of mediumship at his Spiritualist Church. To my horror the stage medium picked us out of the audience and said she could see a small child with us, a child we had, who had died as a toddler. She went on about how he was safe and happy in heaven, and loved us both, and all that sort of stuff. The audience sat, silent, spellbound, agog at her amazing psychic skills.
I'd never even been pregnant by him, let alone had a child!
My b/f did not contradict her because he was a believer and would not have wanted to show her up. I did not contradict her, either, because I didn't want him telling me off for showing her up.
On the walk home I asked him how he explained how she'd got it so wrong, if this spiritualism thing was real, and he fudged his way to an explanation. There was a child that died, but maybe it was the couple behind us, or someone who sat in our seats the week before, or maybe we would have a child in the future who would die...... ANYTHING but admit it's a load of old bollocks.
The weirdest thing was, my b/f died just four months later, and she did not predict that!
