My toddler wants to name his new mini Shetland mare 'Kevin' HELP

Collecting our new pony tomorrow. A tiny miniature coloured mare, who currently has no name. She is passported as 'Ponette deux' because she was the second pony to be passported that day, apparently they were all passported that way but with 'trois, quarter, cinq' etc...

So, I asked my dear son what he would like to call her.

Son's response: KEVIIIIN!

I did try to explain that, she was a girl, but I got a death stare in return, and I'm drawing a bit of a blank with names.

I was hoping I might get some ideas here that I can suggest to him. The little mare is the sassiest little thing I've ever met, so something different to match her larger than life attitude and that's fun and quirky enough too.

OR... do we just go ahead and name her Kevin?

Thank you for all of the lovely replies. I think there was only one person who thought Kevin was a stupid name... so, we beat the odds! And I'm strangely in love with it now. Our son adores her and she's settling in beautifully. It'll be a few days before we introduce her to the big guys. No doubt in my mind she will put them both in their place though Smile

Keviiiiin! Should really be spelt Kevine so is adorably feminine

They're great, aren't they Dizzy ? Only problem is it takes ages to get anywhere as people want to stop and talk about the Shetland. Then of course the horse and the Shetland collude in walking slowly ("no, I can't go fast, he's only got little legs") unless the Shetland wants to go on the grass verge for a canter and a buck, then I get a reasonable walk out of the horse. Who nonetheless is not bothered about his bucking bronco companion, though he would be if any horse not a Shetland did it.

A. Dor. Able photo. As my dd would say.

Kevin was so lucky to have found you Flowers ❤️

One of our ponies came to us called Louis. After much deliberation. We changed his name- but I actually think Louis suited him!

Definitely stick with Kevin, it's brilliant!

Poor Kevin

OP you might be the only poster in history to unite MN! Kevin is gorgeous Smile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/04/2017 09:41

Kevin is very gorgeous!

Abraiid2 · 29/04/2017 09:42

Change it to Devon over time?

sluj · 29/04/2017 09:47

My D'S had Kevin on the shortlist for his kitten a few years ago - after his favourite footballer Kevin Doyle. Settled on Frodo in the end which still raises a few smiles when called out at the vets.

ShoutOutToMyEx · 29/04/2017 09:50

Kevin is great.

We had a cat called Malcolm when I was a kid.

awesomeness · 30/04/2017 18:04

Ive got two female cats called colin and nigel

Lnfb85 · 30/04/2017 18:05

Go with Kevin!!!

We have a collection of random names for our pets thanks to our son who named them between the ages of 3 and 4.

Guinea pigs- Gum, Carrot, Present

Fish- Dish, Bish, Gish

Shrimp- Pengo, Kitty

Snails- Stripes, Dotty

I love his creativity in the naming of our pets. (And his non creativity- he was eating a carrot when he named Carrot and he saw a present when he named Present- we don't let him name pets while he's in the loo 😂)

awesomeness · 30/04/2017 18:10

My friends also got a mini crew.....well 7 of them 🤣

And the smallest one, oliver, thinks hes 17hh and built like a tank, terrible attitude! But hes adorable!!! And so funny!!!

Im sure your LO and Kevin will rock it 😍

PollytheDolly · 30/04/2017 18:19

You simply cannot not call her Kevin. To call her anything less would be a travesty!! Your 3 year old is right. Grin

My sister had a dog she called Nala, after the lioness in Lion King. She was a Labrador Retriever sold to her as a bitch, but when my sister took her to be spayed it turned out that she had no womb but had an undeveloped testicle lol. She peed like a bitch though. So the dog had a name for a female but was in reality partly male. So what does it matter really???

MollyHopps · 30/04/2017 18:40

You must let him! Kevin is a brilliant name for a Shetland Grin

FeedTheSharkAndItWillBite · 30/04/2017 18:42

Oh, she's gorgeous!!! What an adorable little Kevin (or Keevin). Love it!

PandoraMole · 30/04/2017 18:43

I have several really lovely Kevin's in my life...I'd definitely vote for Kevin the Pony 😁

BananaThePoet · 30/04/2017 18:53

Kevin is a great name. Reminded me of the horse from Doctor Who called Susan:

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 30/04/2017 18:54

OP, your thread reminds me of this gem!

(And hurrah for Kevin the Shetland).

Kevin is adorable!!!!

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 30/04/2017 18:56

Banana,

Well, what are the chances?! Susan for male animals seem popular...

Gabilan · 30/04/2017 18:57

Vets are so used to Ceefer and Deefer I bet Voldetort would have gone down a storm.

OP it will be so lovely to see her going from broodmare Pony Number Two to Kevin, the much loved companion to your son. I am thinking there will be lots of cries of "Keviiiin" as she stays one step ahead, figuratively and literally.
