My toddler wants to name his new mini Shetland mare 'Kevin' HELP

Collecting our new pony tomorrow. A tiny miniature coloured mare, who currently has no name. She is passported as 'Ponette deux' because she was the second pony to be passported that day, apparently they were all passported that way but with 'trois, quarter, cinq' etc...

So, I asked my dear son what he would like to call her.

Son's response: KEVIIIIN!

I did try to explain that, she was a girl, but I got a death stare in return, and I'm drawing a bit of a blank with names.

I was hoping I might get some ideas here that I can suggest to him. The little mare is the sassiest little thing I've ever met, so something different to match her larger than life attitude and that's fun and quirky enough too.

OR... do we just go ahead and name her Kevin?

Kevin! You have to go with it. So cute.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 27/04/2017 19:59

It would be weird to call her anything else now, she has been named.

Wildfox90 · 27/04/2017 20:00

Kevin it is then... by a landslide it would appear! At least it makes for an interesting topic of conversation.

DS is only two but he's grown up with animals, he has so much love for everything that moves, sadly his old pony passed away before he could get the chance to take up riding. So, as I've got two others than need a companion and we decided it was time to look for a new pony... she is super cheeky, ten years old and only been used as a broodmare so I have a little work to do with her but DS is so excited about taking her for an in hand walk on Saturday!

Shall post a picture of her tomorrow when we have got her home.

Yay Kevin! Awaits picture. Smile

WhiskyChick · 27/04/2017 20:03

Kevin is a great name for a naughty little mate teehee

Wildfox90 · 27/04/2017 20:03

Yes this is a first time post for me, total newbie, thought it might be fun!

I probed him a little more about it when he got home from crèche, I asked if he definitely wanted to name her Kevin and his reply was "Keviiiin cause she's cheeky" - the logic of a two year old lol

I had a guinea pig called Martin

Wildfox90 · 27/04/2017 20:11

dispicable me and 'up' are his current favourite films, we actually watched up at the weekend before we went to see the pony so I wonder if that's where he got the idea... you know like the bird?

He's actually hilarious, his speech has been a little slow, we live in France, so he sometimes pronounces the words he knows a little bit weird, so earlier he was saying it like 'KEEVIN'.

Add an E on the end and it could almost be French! How fitting. Maybe he's a genius!

I'm reading Kevin like the mum from home alone when she remembers they left Kevin at home.

Grumpbum · 27/04/2017 20:33

I have a Kevin as a pet it's a great name

mrslaughan · 27/04/2017 20:34

I am fascinated as to why Kevin? because he thinks she will be his minion?

NewStateswoman · 27/04/2017 20:41

krustykittens · 27/04/2017 20:50

NewStatesWoman that idea is genuis! I share your pain OP. We have the most beautiful welsh section a gelding, who should be called something like Silver or Thistledown. He is called Colin. Actually, his full name is Ysbrydhiraethog Colin. I don't speak Welsh but I reckon some one is taking the piss!

sexymuthafunker · 27/04/2017 20:52

Please call her Kevin 😂

Polkadotties · 27/04/2017 20:55

Kevin is brilliant. I used to ride an horse called Colin haha. Can't wait to see a picture of her

AmethystRaven · 27/04/2017 20:59

In my mind, your DS now is just like Russell from Up! I hope everything goes well and thanks for the lovely thread Smile

PurpleDaisies · 27/04/2017 21:01

This is brilliant. We had a Guinea Pig called Dave once. I love Kevin.

SingaSong12 · 27/04/2017 21:07

Hooray for Kevin. Is there someone at nursery called Kevin who is cheeky? (placemark for photos).

Somevampsarehot · 27/04/2017 21:12

I bloody love Kevin for a pony! My 5 year old has already named our non-existent dog Keith Grin

Gabilan · 27/04/2017 21:17

Kevin does match all those things. I'm thinking Kevin the teenager and Shetlands are definitely teenagers. My female cats have male names. They do not seem bothered by this and ignore me anyway

PurplePidjin · 27/04/2017 21:19

Kevin Deux sounds like Kevinda which could be a female form, then just call her Kevin for short

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 27/04/2017 21:27

Yeah I'm with your Son, Kevin is a GREAT name for a horse Grin
