My toddler wants to name his new mini Shetland mare 'Kevin' HELP

Collecting our new pony tomorrow. A tiny miniature coloured mare, who currently has no name. She is passported as 'Ponette deux' because she was the second pony to be passported that day, apparently they were all passported that way but with 'trois, quarter, cinq' etc...

So, I asked my dear son what he would like to call her.

Son's response: KEVIIIIN!

I did try to explain that, she was a girl, but I got a death stare in return, and I'm drawing a bit of a blank with names.

I was hoping I might get some ideas here that I can suggest to him. The little mare is the sassiest little thing I've ever met, so something different to match her larger than life attitude and that's fun and quirky enough too.

OR... do we just go ahead and name her Kevin?

Oh yes, definitely a Kevin! Gorgeous.

KatyBerry · 28/04/2017 14:41

look at the broad chest on her! she's a good strong beast isn't she? Kevin totally suits.

Wildfox90 · 28/04/2017 14:49

She is certainly a sturdy little thing! Quite old fashioned, leg in each corner type. Bit of a pot belly at the moment because she's only ever been a broodmare!

I had a palomino pony called Sid once. Stick with Kevin! It's a brilliant name

Xmasbaby11 · 28/04/2017 14:57

It's not a nice name imo but that's what you get if you let a 2yo choose the name!

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 28/04/2017 14:59

What a gorgeous thread to read. I'm so pleased you stayed with Kevin. What a lovely lesson to have taught your son too. Happy riding with your son and Kevin OP. Smile

I've got a mini called Peanut. A 22 year old tank, totally forgets his manners, doesn't negotiate, has some serious little man issues going on. I cant give him an inch, far too smart for his own good but I wouldn't change him for the world.

Put his grumpiness aside, I got him to keep my TB mare company. She was once with another ex racer (ginger) and the pair of them together was just a disaster. The ginger ninga got sent to another yard and Peanut was bought in as a companion.

He has totally reformed my mare, she isn't the highly strung lunatic she once was. She is now actually a good, solid, honest and reliable young lady Smile

I am a Shitland convert Grin

Dizzybacon · 28/04/2017 15:04

Kevin is the perfect name Smile

CatchIt · 28/04/2017 15:05

I had a boyfriend many years ago who had 2 Shetland sheepdogs (like miniature lassies) called Bob & Derek. They were a bit horrible as one bit me on the leg when I went for a wee in the middle of the night!

terrylene · 28/04/2017 15:07

Karen?

Kevin is an excellent name though. Maybe get another?

Spudlet · 28/04/2017 15:08

Kevin! Grin

Just you wait, a good groom, a pedicure, a scale and polish, a worming (if needed) and some general tlc and she'll feel like a new woman Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2017 15:12

I think you should keep the spelling 'Keviiiin'.

madeleinecreek · 28/04/2017 15:24

I think Keveen. What a lush pony cx

TheElephantofSurprise · 28/04/2017 15:27

Kevin is gorgeous. Well done. Its a fabulous name.

Badweekjustgotworse · 28/04/2017 15:29

I love Kevin! You asked him what he wanted... shouldn't have asked of you weren't prepared to let him choose!

DramaAlpaca · 28/04/2017 15:33

Kevin is a brilliant name! Such a cute pony.

UrsulaPandress · 28/04/2017 15:33

Swoon

Avocuddle · 28/04/2017 15:33

We had a bunny called Snowdrop when I was little and I refused to listen to my mum when she said the rabbit was a boy Grin I genuinely deluded myself into believing it was a girl! Definitely stick with Kevin!

lorelairoryemily · 28/04/2017 15:36

Kevin is perfect! We used to have a donkey called KieranGrin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/04/2017 15:45

I love the names children choose. When my friend was getting a hamster, her son suggested Jiminy Billy-Bob - a name that would have been longer than the hamster!

skippythebushkangarootoo · 28/04/2017 15:51

Lovely Kevin 😍

BusterGonad · 28/04/2017 16:01

Kevin is beautiful, my last cat was called Martin!

Gabilan · 28/04/2017 17:10

Oh she is beautiful, OP. I hope you and your son have lovely times with her.

He has totally reformed my mare, she isn't the highly strung lunatic she once was. She is now actually a good, solid, honest and reliable young lady

My horse is generally sensible but dislikes hacking on his own. Sometimes I drag a Shetland with him. Honestly I might as well give him a big dose of sedalin before I go out. When I'm tacking up, he whinnies excitedly if I go near the Shetland's stable. Blooming loves him and some things all the big horses live in fear and horror of the Shettie just doesn't register as even existing.

PurpleDaisies · 28/04/2017 17:21

Oh she's gorgeous! She looks like a marble cake on legs. I'm sure she'll be a wonderful addition to your family.

Dizzybacon · 28/04/2017 17:36

Gabilan I couldn't agree more. I tried for years doing groundwork and desensitising her, In the end I kind of decided she is who she is and there are just some things she will never be happy with.

She also has never really put her trust into other horses, very strong willed. But then I got Peanut and she is now the boldest, bravest horse I've ever owned. It's amazing the impact he has had on her.
