Who the fuck dumps there horse in MY field

MagicLlama · 16/11/2012 20:26

So ive gone down to let my horses in tonight, and there is an extra fucking horse in my field. I know its not mine. I know it wasnt there at 7:30 this morning. I know its been put in because the lock is cut off. CUT off. Theve cut my padlock off to put an additional horse IN!! IN!!

It went crazy when I took mine in to the stables, so I had no choice. Hes now in a stable with a haynet.

Ive rang round locally and noone appears willing to claim him. Ive rang the police, and theve advised me to put un an abandonement notice telling whoever owns him they have 14 days to shift him, before he becomes mine, and apparently hes my legal responsibility in the meantime because hes on my land.

WTF do I do now?

Oh MagicLlama, what a nightmare for you. :( I suppose its back to putting up an abandonment notice then, and seeing where it goes from there (think we can guess that bit) and having a replacement passport issued then?

Poor sod, and he sounds a nice character too.

Saltire · 20/11/2012 22:58

I am terrified of horses, but actually want to go and give this one a big hug Grin.

It could be the MN horse - our mascot

ExitPursuedByMarieAntoinette · 20/11/2012 22:58

Oh shit - I was worried something like this would happen. This is why when I gave up riding due to inury I retired my mare rather than sell her on. At least I know she is loved and cared for.

There are sanctuaries who might take him......

Mirage · 20/11/2012 23:02

Oh no! Poor, poor horse.I don't know how anyone could do such a thing. We had to rehome a pony that wasn't safe this year.We did find a kind home for her,we were very lucky to do so,and have been to see her a few times there. But if that hadn't been possible,I would have taken her to the kennels myself rather than have her passed around or end up ill treated or in a market, even though it would have broken my heart to do it.I wish people would take responsibility for their animals.Angry

If I could take him,I would.I'm going to need a hack in the next year or so,to keep up with the dds.

Nuttyfilly · 20/11/2012 23:04

Hi read this whole thred, what a poor chap! For what it's worth ex racehorses are very willing learner a and also 9 times out of 10 not bothered or spooked by traffic and notices, I have a 4 yr old ex racehorse I was given. They do make lovely horses. I hope he has a happy ending. He sounds very comfortable at your yard. Your doing a fab job.

Nuttyfilly · 20/11/2012 23:05

Notices is ment to say noices... Stupid iPad

hellymelly · 20/11/2012 23:06

I'd donate to a feed fund! How lovely of you to look after him so well. Are there pics of him up yet?

OTheHugeManatee · 20/11/2012 23:17

Poor Nemo, sounds like he's been dumped Sad

He's very lucky to have landed with someone as nice as you.

Plomino · 20/11/2012 23:44

If we all chipped in to his feed fund, could we call him Pom Bear ?

PrincessSymbian · 20/11/2012 23:56

Pom Bear on odds four to one in the three o clock derby?
Tis a joke but would fit in nicely with all those daft names race horses end up with!

Pinotgrigioplease · 21/11/2012 00:02

I can't decide which potential name I like best, Pom Bear or Peter Pan! Both great! Grin

Seriously though, I hope you get this sorted soon. I would love to contribute towards the MN horse by my own eats me out of house and home already so I've no money to spare.

OscarPistoriusBitontheside · 21/11/2012 00:10

Poor old boy, cooper is a great name btw, what happens now? Will you get to keep him as registered owner.

I did raise the subject with DH, especially since we just had a big box come free, but he said no. Sad

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 21/11/2012 00:24

Magic, I'm sure he was dumped on you deliberately, knowing you would care for him, well done you for doing so.
My daughter gets this all the time, but with dogs. She lives in Portugal, training Lusitano horses for dressage. Took her 2 dogs with her from here 4 years ago.
"Strays" arrived and she adopted them letting them live at the farm with the horses.
Then they put a fence round the farm and still kept finding new arrivals.
Finally realised that people were putting dogs over the fence knowing that softy English girl would look after them.
She rehomes some, there and here, but seems to have a rolling stock of 8 or 9!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 00:27

Its a shame we cant get him to Essex. He'd be welcome to a home on our yard with all the other freebies and rejects! We have several that came to us free because they just didnt fit the bill any more. They all live lovely lives in a big herd, and get used to match their abilities! Just because a pony is 22 and isnt fit for pony club, doesnt mean that its useless!

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 00:28

Poor boy Shock

I'll confess I read the whole thread desperately wanting to see 'he has a star like Harry Potter's scar', because that would make him BigHorse, and I miss BigHorse so very much.

I'd be happy to sponsor him a fiver a month, if enough of us did he could stay with you?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 00:29

Still think Nemo by the way! Grin

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 21/11/2012 00:42

I like Nemo for his name too, but OP will know what suits him best.

Or Keifer for "The Lost Boys?"

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 00:50

Sarah, what happened to BigHorse?

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 01:03

Couldn't afford to keep him so I sold him :(

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 01:06

I thought he was stolen! You will have to come down and cuddle mine! Come late spring, we will have babies! Smile

Pixel · 21/11/2012 01:07

You lot and Jilly Cooper! Wink
If Jilly had anything at all to do with this he would become the Mumsnet horse and a mumsnetter on a visit to deliver a sack of treats would discover by accident that he has a magnificent turn of speed if only he is given a polo. He would then be put in to training with a convenient neighbouring drop dead gorgeous racehorse trainer, have many trials and tribulations which would all be cured by LOVE and eventually go on to win The Grand National.

I do quite like the name Cooper though Smile.

VestaCurry · 21/11/2012 01:10

He sounds wonderful. You have been brilliant, looking after him and searching for his home. I do hope you feel able to keep him, or another Mnetter has the facilities/finances.

I would happily donate to a fund for him.

Mumsnet never ceases to amaze me Smile.

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 01:13

Ooh baby horses, you won't be able to get rid of me Grin

Seriously, you won't, as soon as DD2 has finished her GCSEs, we're moving back down.

SantasStrapOn · 21/11/2012 01:15

And if he's going to race under the Mumsnet banner, he has to be called Nest of Vipers. Cooper can be his stable name.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 01:16

Even better, baby ponies! Grin
