Who the fuck dumps there horse in MY field

MagicLlama · 16/11/2012 20:26

So ive gone down to let my horses in tonight, and there is an extra fucking horse in my field. I know its not mine. I know it wasnt there at 7:30 this morning. I know its been put in because the lock is cut off. CUT off. Theve cut my padlock off to put an additional horse IN!! IN!!

It went crazy when I took mine in to the stables, so I had no choice. Hes now in a stable with a haynet.

Ive rang round locally and noone appears willing to claim him. Ive rang the police, and theve advised me to put un an abandonement notice telling whoever owns him they have 14 days to shift him, before he becomes mine, and apparently hes my legal responsibility in the meantime because hes on my land.

WTF do I do now?

Lovely

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 21/11/2012 01:40

Magic - if you really can't keep him, maybe we could all send a few quid to get him transported to Saggy - or we could put an MN call out, someone might be willing to do it for free or petrol money.

Poor old boy, he sound lovely. I'd dearly love to have him, but he wouldn't fit in the front room!

conorsrockers · 21/11/2012 07:00

What a sad thread Sad, I'm sure there's a potential happy ending there somewhere ... unfortunately we have just filled up our last stable, otherwise we would have had him in a shot Grin, plenty of grazing, but we don't leave ours out in the winter Grin

MagicLlama · 21/11/2012 07:39

Morning everyone! Sorry i missed loads of messages - DS2 had a bad dream I went to give him a cuddle and ended up falling asleep in his bed! I surface to half 2, but only to crawl into my own bed! Tireder than I thought obviously

First steps are to get the abandonment notice up, because apparently legally thats what I have to do. Vet has suggested that I give it a longer than the 14 days period, just in case the people are on holiday, as it gives them chance to come back and start looking for their horse! So either 21 or 28 days. It very doubtful though.

I understand that people cant look after their horses anymore, or that they impulse buy them for free to good home and its turned out wrong. I can even understand that they dont want to give them away because they dont want them to end up somewhere bad! I just think it stinks to just leave them somewhere and hope for the best.

I like the idea of a MN horse.

DS2s loan pony is coming in a fortnight, so If I sort out the far field, it needs strimming, I could put newpony and stupidpony out 24/7 and have him and the oldie in the stables & smaller paddock at home. I could then reschool him as a hack and then all 3 of us could go riding together. Grin

Ill get some pics of him up at the weekend when my DB the nice younger one, not the jerk older one is down and he has sorted out whatever error there is between my phone and laptop!

Oh and im in Stoke on Trent, so if any of you are local enough and want to come down and feed him treats, and spoil him feel free to do so!

The not so little monster didnt want to go out this morning, which appears to be due to the heavy downpour of rain! Hes taken some exception to the feel of wet & mud under his feet - the idiot.

However lucky for him, my old mare also isnt going out today as shes got a cut on her leg, and ive bandaged her up and am keeping her in, so ive left them both in for the moment! Evil shettie has gone out though as she hates being in at the best of times!

I am wet through, so have treated myself to a bacon sandwich and a cuppa WITH sugar!

Magic, I love the idea of a MN horse too. Smile
And I think he will have a wonderful life with you, lucky LostBoy.

He will need a proper name though. I like Colin as suggested further downthread...

onlyjoking9329 · 21/11/2012 07:54

Is it shergar?

MrsMangoBiscuit · 21/11/2012 08:15

Atuanya, means surprise, or unexpected.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 21/11/2012 08:27

Ooh ooh yes his "official" name HAS to be Nest of Vipers!!!!! Great idea. Have you decided on a pet name yet OP?

Thundercatsarego · 21/11/2012 09:14

Hi there,

I've been lurking on this thread, absolutely fascinated about what the outcome is for this sweet boy.

I have to pipe up now though and say why on earth should you put the abandonment notice up for longer to do the dumpers a favour?! If they've dumped a horse, damaged your property (and said horse could have damaged your ponies too at suddenly all having been dumped together) and then gone on holiday they don't deserve any notice at all!

If the vet means in case it's been stolen then the chances are they won't know where it is so wont see the notice anyway.

I say write it in small writing, water soluble ink and post it up behind a hedge. Then school him as a lovely hack yourself and enjoy him- you definitely deserve it!

picturesinthefirelight · 21/11/2012 09:29

Magiclama whereabouts in stoke. There are loads if horses in fields near to where I live.

I know nothing at all about them but if I can help in any way.

Benaberry · 21/11/2012 09:40

As a horse-lover and ex-rider I've followed whole thread with a combination of interest and shock that someone would do that (even though deep down I know they do). He sounds like my last horse, (although no way it could be him, he'd be about 40 if still alive!) - probably a good job I don't live closer, although I'd love to help out.

I like Nemo and Lost Boy as names - you must let us know what he ends up as if he stays with you Smile

Fingers crossed he's found his happy ending...

Hippymama · 21/11/2012 09:41

You're not that far from me op. Well done you for looking after this horse, hope you do get to keep him xxx

frantic51 · 21/11/2012 09:50

I, too have been lurking on this thread with great interest and am just marking my place for the eventual outcome really.

I think you are doing a marvellous job Llama you sound so lovely and I'm so glad that poor lost boy has found someone like you to help him. Unfortunately I am miles away with no land or stable and I know very little about horses, (used to ride as a child and both my DDs rode as little ones and DD2 would ride still if I had the money Sad ) But am very eager to know what happens to him and could contribute a couple of pounds a month if it means the difference between him having a happy home with you or having to be destroyed.

lia66 · 21/11/2012 09:51

you're not that far from me either. :)

DreamySleepyNightySnoozySnooze · 21/11/2012 10:05

Oh he sounds like my perfect horse. I've ridden a lot of ex racers and they are fantastic horses. Full of personality, and generally very retrainable and well mannered in my experience.

I wish I was in Staffs!

I would ask around, because there are always people who would be willing to pay for his passport in exchange for having a free horse. I know I would if I was nearer. They may even pay you £15/£20 a week to keep him in your field if you have enough room for him.

Hoping for a happy ending for him, he sounds wonderful! :)

Floralnomad · 21/11/2012 10:06

If he's an ex- racer once he is legally yours will you be able to find out what his racing name was ? My first horse was an ex- racer , they're lovely although many have lots of issues . Good luck with him !

BonkeyMollocks · 21/11/2012 10:17

Place marking!

I want him! hes sound lovely and I have 'proper horse and riding withdrawal after 5 years (5 bLOODY YEARS!!) of being unable to ride anything but a 9hh shitland Hmm , who incidently luffs big horses! He thinks he is one Hmm

TaggieCampbellBlackFriday · 21/11/2012 10:17

Damn. Miles away. I could post polos though.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 10:18

On the back of Dreamy's post, and no offence to dreamy at all, but if you need to pass him on, please don tgive him away. That's what got him into this mess in the first place. And I know I've contradicted myself as I offered a free home, but he is a young horse who has a worthy and valuable future ahead of him. As we have found out many times, any horse has a job to do, and none should be disposable. The higher the price you put on this young, potential filled animal, the better his chance of a decent life.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 10:20

Bonkey, most Shetlands do, and would benefit from being treated a bit more like they actually were and not just as some kind of living lawnmower! Grin

BonkeyMollocks · 21/11/2012 10:25

Saggy He bloody well is!
He is treated like a prince!

He gets all the same treatment as my TBx mare did , apart from the regular riding mainly because I feel like a arse riding him down the road with my legs jockey style and still hanging 4 inches of the floor .Hmm

I'm soft though, he had a bad start and I saved him.
Maybe I need to turn into the hard bitch who never carries carrots!

Grin
BobbiFleckmann · 21/11/2012 10:32

is he sound now? I hope he is fit enough to be your hack. astonishing story, how lucky you're on the end of it

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 10:37

NO!!!! I didnt mean you!!! just lots of people in general! who usually know bugger all about horses!

BonkeyMollocks · 21/11/2012 10:50

I agree completely, didn't mean my post to sound a defensive one.

Its the main reason why i could never sell him, because people seem to think they are a easy option to get a pony Hmm
. Iv'e had him from 16months, hes 8 now, I'm stuck with the lovely sod for god knows how many more years because I could never be sure he would end up with good people who would treat him right and give him his chance.

Back to the op ,I can't believe anyone would just dump their horse. what Bobbi said! Thank god he didn't end up in another field where god knows what could have happened to him!
