In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Those of you who have had Covid, what were your symptoms?

I have a headache (for the last couple of days) and feel tired (for a change!) but no classic symptoms.

Negative on lateral flow.

A colleague suggested I should PCR.

No known contact with any cases - did have a child in with a positive family member last week but they were doing daily lateral flows and 2 negative PCRs

Piggyinblankets · 13/12/2021 09:46

I am not all that representative as I was really ill but I didn't have classic PCR worthy symptoms. I tested because DSs were both positive. They had coughs and temperatures and general malaise. DS2 had banging headache. I had nausea, feeling of impending doom, headache, followed by vomiting and tachycardia... the cough lasted one night. The loss of taste and smell came later , I think, although both DS and I think it took us a while to notice.

@LolaSmiles
The sun doesn’t seem to know what it thinks (like most of us I expect!)
This was right next to the school story. Let’s hope the mild symptoms is true - I don’t think anyone has got severely sick yet have they and only a handful of cases in hospital with the variant and that is true with flu each year, my daughter’s friend went to hospital with flu as a fit and healthy teen. I am really hoping it continues to be mild and that anti vax gang get their jabs and then we can be back in school raring to go in January, my biggest fear is home learning again, it was awful for teachers and pupils.

GCHQ's Christmas Card puzzle this year is aimed at secondary kids. www.gchq.gov.uk/news/christmas-card-2021

cornercupboard · 13/12/2021 16:29

twinkletoesimnot I had the headache and feeling tired and was negative on lateral flow but positive on PCR, so I do think you should go and have one. I already had a cough from a cold I'd not finished having, but the loss of smell and taste didn't come until day 3. Never had a temp.

Can't hurt...

Both of these are on my "must pcr" list from my vaccine trial.

twinkletoesimnot · 13/12/2021 17:04

Ok @cornercupboard
And Mrs H.
I'll do one. Thank you

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/12/2021 18:57

I got my booster.
No sign here of under 50s even getting letters yet, but after Boris's press thing the other day, there have been 3 drop in sessions locally for the boosters or 2nd doses. Most have been in the morning and in a busy shopping area (already a parking nightmare before Christmas) but today the local vaccination centre which is round the corner from work was doing an evening drop in.

I've only recently had covid, but more than 28 days. I wasn't fussed about getting my booster yet, due to the natural immunity I will currently have after having been infected. But dd is still registered with her Welsh gp, but will be going back to uni in York soon and I was hoping to get her hers before she went back in case that was a problem for her trying to book in. So we went after school and both got done. DD2 is having her 2nd dose on Sunday.

And I got a sticker!

twinkletoesimnot · 13/12/2021 19:01

I missed how ill you were @Piggyinblankets
Are you all recovered now?

Air purifier story....

I am OK now thanks twinkle. Took a while. Still get bad stomachs but tbh it wasn't great before so who knows... also terrible brain fog. Last week I couldn't remember how to hum!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/12/2021 12:50

Due to finish next Wednesday. Going blended learning for the last 3 days now.

HSHorror · 14/12/2021 14:01

My main brain fog is actors names. Or remembering if ive taken meds. Ive also put dc in wrong pe/uniform once. And actually nearly again today (shes been off so wrong one already out) Also csnnt remember some conversations.
Dp also put his nesquik in the fridge.

HSHorror · 14/12/2021 14:03

I just saw netmums saying that 5+ need tp lft if contacts and not just omicron

2nd vaccinations to be rolled out in schools from 10th Jan.

Because we have nothing else to do schoolsweek.co.uk/12-15-year-old-vaccine-second-dose-schools-rollout/

Piggyinblankets · 14/12/2021 16:14

Sigh.

WhenSheWasBad · 14/12/2021 17:00

Probably means more protesters.

I had to send home two of my year 7s yesterday. They actually looked really poorly, they have Covid. Poor things, a lot of kids who’ve had vivid really suffer with it, not desperately ill. But they feel rotten.

DanglingMod · 14/12/2021 17:53

That'll actually mean March then Hmm

BitterTits · 14/12/2021 18:36

We now have a 'spike' in a year group. They are staying in school but have to wear masks in classrooms. They won't though, and we won't be able to do anything about it.

DanglingMod · 14/12/2021 18:49

What counts as a "spike"?

BitterTits · 14/12/2021 19:02

Dunno really. All we're being told about is the kids in our class, for the purposes of setting work 🙄

Piggyinblankets · 14/12/2021 19:12

We don't even get told that!!

echt · 14/12/2021 19:49

I'm relieved and faintly amazed that my school got to the end of this year, indeed the whole pandemic, without any Covid cases. It's quite a thing in primary right now, and some secondary schools have had cases, though nowhere near UK levels, obvs. Still, term ends on Friday for government schools, and the independents packed up last week.

Realistically I know I might still get it and am getting my booster on the 30th.

Appuskidu · 14/12/2021 20:06

Just seen this on Twitter.

Teachers in Scotland can ‘volunteer’ to break isolation and pitch up to work if they’d like!

Medra · 14/12/2021 20:06

I have booked my booster. No way I am risking spending another Christmas with Covid.
We’ve been back to masks in classrooms (our local PH team are fab at making authority wide recommendations) and not only does it feel safer, but we’ve had fewer cases.

Piggyinblankets · 14/12/2021 20:10
