Sixty-Eighth Republic - still under temporary guardianship…

In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

No, no one dangling. Hope she's OK.

DanglingMod · 08/12/2021 07:05

Me, too.

Oh the bloody irony of Jenny Harries et al standing next to the PM telling the public that teachers were only catching Covid in staff rooms. Which were closed. Because we, actually, you know, followed the rules.

cornercupboard · 08/12/2021 08:13

Oh, the teacher guilt is real, isn't it? Definitely know that feeling.
Thanks everyone. I will go back on Monday and then at least it's just the relative calm of the last week in the Christmas term to cope with. Xmas Hmm Xmas Wink Ha bloody ha.

The staff room is easily the least used room in the school

Appuskidu · 08/12/2021 17:25

We were formally told today that there will be no in-school visits from today on for any EPs/specialists at the moment due to concerns about covid. That’s nice for them, isn’t it?!

ChloeDecker · 08/12/2021 18:13

The contempt from Harries (and other well known MN posters) regarding school staffrooms was and is dispicable, in my opinion!
They were all so far off the mark as usual.

DanglingMod · 08/12/2021 18:33

We've been here before with our disdain for her attitude but it bears repeating with the leaked about a party at the DfE last Christmas "for all their hard work." Massive guffaw from the cheap seats Hmm

ChloeDecker · 08/12/2021 19:09

Just came back to post the same thing Dangling!
So that’s where their £1000 bonuses went…

Joking aside, I actually feel sick at the thought that they were partying just after launching legal action in the borough my DD goes to school in, rather than try to keep her safe Angry

DanglingMod · 08/12/2021 19:17

100 percent, Chloe Angry

BitterTits · 08/12/2021 22:25

Thanking them for their hard work, my arse.

We're being thanked this year by finishing an hour later, learning walks in the midst of mock marking and no modest lunch on the PD day.

No news on booster jabs either.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/12/2021 22:50

Loving (not) some of the comments on the thread where the finishing time for Christmas are being discussed. Because keeping ones children occupied when super excited for Christmas is very hard.

Should try it with 30 AND be expected to still be teaching them something too!

noblegiraffe · 08/12/2021 23:20

You can book your booster now, Bittertits?

Last Christmas would you rather have been in a covidy school, or at a party with Gav?

MrsHamlet · 09/12/2021 06:38

Covidy school

echt · 09/12/2021 07:22

Taught my last lesson today and it was lovely. It's an 11 (UK 12) class who knew I was subbing for their new teacher. The new teacher came along today and was introduced. They wanted a party as it was last lesson and said I no, I was the only one partying because this as my last lesson and I'm retiring. They groaned in an entirely satisfactory way. So I asked them to do it again.:o

I set up the lesson and work to do, then handed out lollies as I do with all my classes on the last lesson of a semester.

As they left on the bell, they did something which is very common in my school, they thanked me as they passed.

A delightful ending to 43 years of teaching. Smile

borntobequiet · 09/12/2021 07:28

How lovely. Welcome to the world of retirement, which I’m pleased to say may hold pleasant surprises and become (relatively) busy and productive.

What a way to show staff they care...

JanglyBeads · 09/12/2021 09:22

They really didn’t need to put that third possibility in there did they?

JanglyBeads · 09/12/2021 09:52

New guidance - only thing of interest is that they plan to move to daily testing instead of isolation for child/vaxxed omicron contacts, oh and masks can possibly directed by local PH.

Not at all. So crass.
eitak22 · 09/12/2021 16:38

We're up to 4 off in my class. I know its not much by most standards but starting to feel a bit close for comfort.

WhenSheWasBad · 09/12/2021 16:46

echt that sounds like such a nice last day. Congratulations.

Everyone is sick at my school. Pupil abscence is pretty high. We’ve a lot of staff off in our department- so have a ton of cover.

Very tired.

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2021 16:51

Interesting. National Reference Tests from 2021 (so last Y11, sat in March) show that they were behind in maths, but not really behind in English.

twitter.com/schoolsweek/status/1468982527633367046?s=21

I think this Y11 are more behind than that.
