In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 68th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

I would go to the police for that. It's against the law. The police can't stop you reporting an assault. I don't think it does the perpetrator any favours to get a slap on the wrist from school and nothing else. There is very little schools can really do by way of punishment.
I hope your dd gets better soon.

twinkletoesimnot · 02/12/2021 19:01

@phlebasconsidered
That's horrific
I think I would be involving the police due the seriousness.
Your poor dd xx

twinkletoesimnot · 02/12/2021 19:01

I also think that I would ask for her to be removed from school transport.

DanglingMod · 02/12/2021 19:28

Yes, I'd absolutely be contacting the police.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/12/2021 19:47

@JanglyBeads

Are you primary Medea, sorry I can’t remember!

DrM is wales different in terms of numbers of monitors and actually recording the readings? Cos RH latter actually creates a record which could be used by unions/public health/a teacher suing/ a head fighting for better ventiatlion …. quite radical, what you’re now getting those Y6s to do!!

Ours generates a graph on the screen too so it's easy to check at a glance whether the numbers the y6 have written down match the actual record. Then I fill the spreadsheet. It was the HTs suggestion they the eco crew kids did it!

I have 2 opening windows (they open a grand total of 15 at the bottom) which are right next to each other, and 2 doors.

Our monitor stayed on amber all day with occasional red periods. One child asked what happens if it is a high number but the windows and doors were already open.

Basically nothing. What else can we do?

It took til quarter to 5 after school with the doors and windows open for the number to drop back down below 800.

LolaSmiles · 02/12/2021 20:08

Sorry to hear about your DD phleb.
My school that would be a 50/50 case whether it would be a permanent exclusion, or a longer fixed term one followed by time in our on-site semi-alternative provision to build up to being back in circulation again.
Which way it would go would probably depend on the child's behaviour record.

DreamingofBrie · 02/12/2021 21:11

I'm sorry your dd has been subjected to that, phlebas. Awful. It's not just the physical impact, but also the psychological impact.

If the school are dragging their heels, or not punishing satisfactorily, would LA be the next step?

Piggywaspushed · 03/12/2021 07:01

Interesting thread on recruitment here:

twitter.com/JackWorthNFER/status/1466371916890087433

phleb - let us know how you get on. It's shocking. I walked around school two years ago with a clump of a girl's' hair in my ands that I had confiscated form an assailant, looking for a member of SLT. Girl on girl violence is often underplayed.

DenbyChina · 03/12/2021 09:43

Jesus, —phleb— hope she’s ok. That feels beyond school remit and more police.

I’ve just had a really frustrating meeting about one of my TLRs. The role might change, might not. My asked for changes were ignored. I’ve been given ‘the lay of the land’. The links, relationships and work I’ve put into this is clearly going to be passed over to a member of slt isn’t it? Apparently a member of slt feels ‘threatened’ by the potential for my work to go remotely near hers. Fucks sake.

noblegiraffe · 03/12/2021 10:19

That thread is fascinating piggy

So they have reduced the target for maths teachers. For other subjects they have reduced or increased targets due to previous over or under recruitment.

For MFL they have explained reduced target despite previous under recruitment as the govt basically giving up on the Ebacc.

How would they explain a reduced target for maths teachers despite previous under recruitment? Have they given up on maths teaching? Reducing the target for maths seems mad.

Also, did you notice Classics Angry it looks like they massively over recruit, and still are despite the bursary going, so why did they have a huge bursary all those years?

Piggywaspushed · 03/12/2021 11:26

I did indeed notice Classics and immediately thought of you. There is a comment in the thread about biggish subjects like psychology, sociology and media subjects being all under 'other' but classics having its own targets and data.

Free Schools in London try to teach Classics Hmm and eschew media subjects Hmm Hmm

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/12/2021 16:20

I'm baffled as to why they've reduced the targets for maths teacher recruitment when we've never managed to meet the recruitment targets. Maybe they think maths is something that can be filled by non specialists (how many schools have pe teachers who also teach maths?) So in their heads it's less important to recruit specialists, because anyone can teach adding up.

Appuskidu · 03/12/2021 16:26

@phlebasconsidered

Can I ask secondary colleagues what the current punishment is for an assault on another student that leaves them with concussion, disturbed vision , loose teeth and a hematoma in the eye would be? Unprovoked attack by a student who just doesn't like the other and has been threatening her outside of school for months. Students need to travel on an unmanned bus to and from school.

My dd was a victim and I am unconvinced that the perpertrator is being dealt with sufficiently and am wondering whether involving the police would be better. Hospital advised I do so and sent a safeguarding to school. School are offering me a meeting in a few days. I'd like to be prepared. Year 9

Thanks.

Wow, that’s frightening. I hope she is ok-I would definitely take some advice from the police.

Sensible Ofsted news today, I see. Not for England though, obviously- that would be ridiculous!

Monkeytennis97 · 03/12/2021 19:11

So sorry to hear about what happened to your Dd Phleb. Poor girl, how bloody awful for all of you.

ChloeDecker · 03/12/2021 19:36

Crikey, just reading back after a long week and phoeb I am so so sorry. Heartbreaking for a parent and such a non-proactive school. Sorry you might have to work hard on this. Sad

ChloeDecker · 03/12/2021 19:40

Also, did you notice Classics angry it looks like they massively over recruit, and still are despite the bursary going, so why did they have a huge bursary all those years?
Cynic in me says that it’s because the Classics makes the ‘elite’ feel even better about ‘intelligence station’ that they quite happily plough more money in to it. But heavens above the masses have the same funding put in to their Maths and English-best keep them as ‘uninformed’ as possible to be better voters for them….

phlebasconsidered · 03/12/2021 20:10

Well, STILL no meeting! I spoke to the safeguarding lead and got a meeting for Tuesday, a full week after the assault. I asked for the perpertrator to be taken off the bus and her safety ensured so she could return to school in the meantime and i've had no reply. The perpertrator has already made more verbal threats through her minions (not online, too clever for that!)and we've had a visit from a family intermediary of the perpertrator with lots of veiled threats.

I've asked the school via email to mark her absence down as exceptional due to safeguarding and asked for the cctv footage. I will still meet with them for a resolution but tomorrow morning I go to the police. I've taken lots of photos and dh is setting up cctv outside the house and saying we should sue them.

phlebasconsidered · 03/12/2021 20:11

Poor girl though-that is awful Sad

phlebasconsidered · 03/12/2021 20:16

Thanks!

phlebasconsidered · 03/12/2021 20:17

Wow, that was quick!

JanglyBeads · 03/12/2021 20:20

Phleb that’s all just awful. Go straight to governors, in addition to police?

JaffavsCookie · 03/12/2021 20:26

Phleb that is awful, your poor dd.
Definitely push for the other kid to be permanently off school transport, we have done that in the past.
The school are doing very poorly imo, and agree with others push with the police.

CarrieBlue · 03/12/2021 20:32

So sorry for your DD phleb - awful response from the school, there’d be exclusions from my pru for an attack like that
