Sixty Seventh Republic - under temporary guardianship

In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

@Goingcrazzy Do not go in and make yourself worse!

MrsHamlet · 07/10/2021 06:51

@cantkeepawayforever

Thought of you all today - my most Bob-like Bob actually put their name on a worksheet as Bob today. It gave me a much needed giggle.
Perfect. Give the boy a merit.
borntobequiet · 07/10/2021 07:40

I should point out that their real name is not Bob, and in fact shares no letters with the name Bob. It was a random - but surprisingly non- violent and non-destructive - act.

Morphic resonance in action. Fascinating. Soon they’ll all be calling themselves Bob.

JanglyBeads · 07/10/2021 08:01

Hmm mother….

I’ll stand you six cans of Um Bongo?

JanglyBeads · 07/10/2021 08:38

Head of UKHSA says they’re looking into the pos LFD /neg PCR issue

TheHoneyBadger · 07/10/2021 09:14

I will start stock piling.

GP rang back and I feel bad for being cynical as she’s gone away and done her research and come back with 2 options. I could either double up patches or I could use higher dose oestrogen only patches and use progesterone pessaries for 10-12 days per cycle. It’s an off label use but would hopefully be tolerable as there isn’t too much blood stream uptake.

I’m going to try the latter and keep the former as back up plan.

Everything crossed that moving up the oestrogen makes all the difference. Life without crazy hot flushes and the anxiety and brain shutdown that comes with them would be great.

borntobequiet · 07/10/2021 09:28

That’s good Honey and the pessaries sound interesting. I use the Mirena because I can’t tolerate oral progesterone - it’s like poison to me - but I’d have tried the pessaries given the opportunity.

JanglyBeads · 07/10/2021 09:55

Have now heard of at least four areas who are requesting that siblings of positive cases don’t return to school until they’ve had a negative PCR and (or?) daily neg LFT

Cumbria, Stoke, Central Beds and Suffolk.

borntobequiet · 07/10/2021 10:43

Jan I rely so much on you keeping on top of the news. Thanks so much. (Not that it affects me personally atm, which is prob why I’m lazy about it.)

TheHoneyBadger · 07/10/2021 10:49

I’m thinking pessaries at least are only on certain days of cycle and easy to discontinue if they don’t agree with me. I’ve heard mixed reviews of the mirena plus I’d have to wait and travel to get it put in and again if I needed it removed.

Our school is full steam ahead. Very well attended in person open evening last night. Luckily t&t are so shite we won’t know if it was a super spreader event bringing kids and parents from every local primary school together 🙈

JanglyBeads · 07/10/2021 11:13

Oh so there was no QR code for people to sign in, at the very least Honey? Wow

BitterTits · 07/10/2021 11:17

I'm an original republican here under a name change. I've conceded defeat and need to go back on ADs, which I haven't used since my DM was dying. I can't get through to a GP though, because they're too busy with flu vax.

What I'm actually doing is marking non-stop to meet pre half term deadlines, rather than trying any form of self care.

The absolutely bonkers thing is that at DD's school teachers only mark if they deem it Covid safe to do so - needless to say she's had no feedback. Where is the bloody middle ground? None of this makes sense.

JanglyBeads · 07/10/2021 12:28

Bitter that sounds awful, hope an actual teacher on here will be able to advise you soon!

And another LEA returns to masks (inc possible even for primary corridors!), SD for staff although nothing about close contacts here:

We live only a few miles from Cambs (where I’m from in fact) and not far from Peterborough.

toomuchicecream · 07/10/2021 13:25

To the list of areas asking siblings to stay home and PCR before returning I can add a school that’s received that advice from their LA in Berkshire

HSHorror · 07/10/2021 13:35

A secondary in our la has gone back to masks this week.
It all seems crazy.as both scouts and brownies etc now have gone for parents going into collect them (for no advantage) (and brownie then positive)
And dc primary now having parents into listen to reading etc etc
What are schools doing about swimming lessons? Assessing them to see who needs to go?

TheHoneyBadger · 07/10/2021 14:29

I sympathise Bitter - covid never made any difference to our demanding marking policy throughout and I had to do an AD switch and move to maximum dose of the new one over the last year. Hope you get through to Dr soon and get it sorted.

DollyMixtureLulus · 07/10/2021 17:14

I've having wine for dinner. Oh my god. They were wild today.

October half term starts on Monday....

WhenSheWasBad · 07/10/2021 17:30

Oh no Dolly any reason they were wild today?

DollyMixtureLulus · 07/10/2021 17:36

It was wet and windy... holidays coming up too. TBF, 95% were actually fine. It's the Bobs.

We have one whose speciality is never stopping talking. It's like torture.

LolaSmiles · 07/10/2021 17:37

Your half term is Monday Dolly? I'm rather jealous of that.
I'm going to be crawling to half term in a couple of weeks.

BitterTits · 07/10/2021 17:40

Thank you @JanglyBeads and @TheHoneyBadger. Got through to speak to a nurse in the end. Not really the route I wanted to take but my employer is not remotely interested in the impact of school culture on MH.

DollyMixtureLulus · 07/10/2021 17:45

Yes- we go August- October, October- December. I'd actually prefer it later because when we go back we have 9 weeks until Christmas. It's long.

JanglyBeads · 07/10/2021 19:00
