Sixty Seventh Republic - under temporary guardianship

In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Difficult areas need teachers who know what they are doing, not some wet-behind-the-ears ECT who only went into teaching because of the bursary in the first place. Why won’t they recognise that experience counts?

£3000 wouldn’t make me get out of bed (as I channel my inner supermodel).

I think teach first (I know it’s a mad cult) might be onto something with the massively increased PPA for deprived areas.

Me too but for experienced teachers not those still training

(I know it’s a mad cult)

It really is.

One of our TF mentors taught for 2 years and then moved into mentoring. How is that OK?

@noblegiraffe

Maths teachers already get danger money for teaching in opportunity areas. One of my colleagues got £2k for moving to Sheffield (and a cheaper cost of living). So that’s already in place?

What happened to that National Teaching programme where teachers would be paid a fortune to move to Great Yarmouth? I think no one applied.

Teach First wanted teachers in disadvantaged areas to have 50% PPA.

Where in Sheffield can you get danger money?
MsAwesomeDragon · 06/10/2021 18:10

£3000 wouldn't be enough to get me to move areas, but I might have been persuaded to move to a more challenging school close by (I probably already live somewhere they think of as deprived). Unfortunately, they don't want to give me more money, because I've been teaching too long. Surely I would have more impact in a challenging school than someone who has only been teaching a couple of years? No offence to anyone in their first few years of teaching, but I know looking back, that I was a bit shit. I'm awesome now though!!

motherrunner · 06/10/2021 18:20

And that’s why you’re @MsAwesomeDragon 😃

13luckyblackcats · 06/10/2021 18:58

@cornercupboard thank you your reply! I am in an SEN school, am an ECT and your experience has reassured me a bit. I don't log everything either, well under 50%. Getting the balance is hard and there seems to be a bit of the idea that if you're logging loads it's because you're a bit soft and need to care less or your behaviour management is poor. I'm not bothered about the bruises, cuts etc for me, but I have a team and class to protect too.

cornercupboard · 06/10/2021 19:46

13luckyblackcats Oh I can sympathise with that. Our gaslighty twat head seems to view logging incidents as a sign of failure, that we haven't followed the "Thrive" approach properly, etc etc. Our response has been to call for someone from SLT every time a particular child kicks off. They soon got the message that it wasn't our approach. Grin

Mind you there's still pointless hoops to jump through even once they agree there's an issue: currently have a child who I'd say is lurking on PDA threshold, SLT response is a stupid ABD form, "what did so-and-so do", "what provoked his action", "what is his action trying to tell us". I am so tempted to put under the last one "I get away with it at home for a quiet life".

13luckyblackcats · 06/10/2021 20:04

@cornercupboard oh I would use that a lot if it was on a drop down menu! Luckily we don't do the ABC, although I do try to put as much as possible in the report as otherwise I get useless suggestions.

[quote noblegiraffe]This one, Flags, only for teachers in their first five years though Hmm

It's not really danger money then. There are lots of very nice state schools in (west) Sheffield. I was expecting to see a list of specific areas, didn't expect the whole of Sheffield to be on the list!

noblegiraffe · 06/10/2021 21:30

Oh I know, I taught in Sheffield in a very nice school Grin

Thought of you all today - my most Bob-like Bob actually put their name on a worksheet as Bob today. It gave me a much needed giggle.

Who would pay £30 for a pack of 7?

There’s loads of us here-if twice weekly is still recommended, we’d need to buy 40 tests a month!

I should point out that their real name is not Bob, and in fact shares no letters with the name Bob. It was a random - but surprisingly non- violent and non-destructive - act.
JanglyBeads · 06/10/2021 22:12

Someone on Parent Utd asked for news on the air filter trials in Bradford schools, this reply was posted:

“Our school is one of the Bradford schools in the pilot and had HEPA filters installed in all classrooms. Unfortunately, cases are so high in our area that even though I'm sure the filters are helping, it isn't enough. Cases in all years, whole families impacted. We all caught Covid at the end of the first week.

Apparently the research team has checked the settings and the experiment continues”

I am feeling increasingly sweary as we head towards half term. They can fuck right off if they think I'll be paying for my tests!

HarrietDVane · 06/10/2021 23:11

I will not be paying either. If they want me to test for work they will need to supply the resources.

This is very funny Grin. I've sometimes nearly mentioned Bob by mistake, when talking to my colleagues!
Goingcrazzy · 07/10/2021 04:53

Hi stupid post, I've been absent so far this week, virus and feeling rubbish. Missed an open evening, checked my emails and seen the msgs from slt about catching up. I can't sleep, if I dragged myself I'm likely to be sent home, or just make myself worse.
Feel I have to get through today and tomorrow. Rubbish.

At the start of the year I found 20 boxes in my cupboard. I can only think that a tutor last year who was using my room out them someone safe and forgot about them. I’m getting in ebay!
motherrunner · 07/10/2021 06:17

Or I might start a republic black trade in them.

Who will offer me 6 bottles of Sauvignon?
