You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

I think at minimum they need to offer vax to 12+ who
Have LC
Or had covid badly
Especially those who had misc (someone was just saying some kids have got it again when they caught covid the second time).

JanglyBeads · 11/08/2021 22:02

Appu I thought I’d PMd you to remind you, apologies if I hadn’t....

IAQ stands for Indoor Air Quality apparently!

16yo dd is getting her jab tomorrow (only booked it today as I didn't realise that they had opened booking for that age for our health authority) so she will be first jab + two weeks by the time she starts sixth form college.

The school I taught in moved into brand new premises in the early years of the century. I gave my son, then a second year architecture student and a former pupil in the old build, a tour of it just before it opened. Half way through, he asked about the air flow and queried the lack of air conditioning, given the design. It turned out that the architects specified air con throughout, but that it had been turned down for financial reasons. Of course none of the windows opened properly and the corridors turned into stifling heat traps in summer. It was hellish - the old school had been a far better and healthier design. Eventually they put air con in the computer rooms, more for the benefit of the machines than the people, which just about sums up the attitude towards staff and students in education in this country.

I did not get an invite, and am now worried you suspect I am an undercover UFT agent Grin

Mistressiggi · 12/08/2021 06:47

Piggy I hope there is a "sick in the holidays" policy where you are - we would be able to claim a couple of days back for each week of holiday sickness.
Better to make a swift recovery obviously, but just in case! Flowers

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 06:49

Really? Definitely not! I was ill all Christmas once and had been off the day we broke up and didn't come back at the start of January. They started saying I had had 3 weeks off work!

I need to move back to Scotland!

MadameMinimes · 12/08/2021 06:54

Good luck to everyone with children collecting results today! I’ve had my annual, nobody-turns-up-to-sixth-form-enrolment nightmare. Hoping that it will be relatively smooth sailing today though.

Piggywaspushed · 12/08/2021 07:34

Well, this has got my goat today and tickled my fancy.

One for numeracy lessons/ teaching data!

I love that last one. She's adorable!!

MsAwesomeDragon · 12/08/2021 07:50

Good luck to all who are awaiting GCSE results for your DC, and those who are going in to school for results day.

I'm not going in, we've pretty much been asked to stay away.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/08/2021 08:40

Morning all. I’ve read another 2 books hence absent avoiding screens a lot. It’s been so nice having time to read.

Off to check out the mentioned staffroom threads.

ChloeDecker · 12/08/2021 09:41

Well hellooooo there! Just popping my head round after camping for the past fortnight (best thing for my wellbeing that’s for sure-have a new found respect for boxed wine!) and seeing how everyone is. Will read back to catch up.

Noooooooooo! Oh so sorry Piggy -bloody unlucky. Sad

My dd’s refusing to tell me her results, only her weighted 8 score. Oh joy....

SKYPE CHAT / MEET UP ARRANGEMENTS

Apologies if this got confused along the way!

At the end of term Noble and I invited any Republicans who wanted to be involved to PM us with the ID of a Skype account. Thence we could be assured that they were not DM journalists or worse (!) and add them to the chat. We sent a few reminders to people who we thought had expressed interest but hadn’t PMd us. We also reposted the invitation.

The original aim was purely to use it to agree meet up details.

mistress I’d thought you’d explicitly ruled yourself out of meeting because of location, sorry if I got that wrong.

Noble is now on hol with intermittent WiFi so may not get messages. PM if you want to join.

We’re also not wanting to detract from this freely available, properly anonymous, thread which has been such a great resource to us all during these troubled times!

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2021 10:22

sorry that should have been PM me* if you want to join

motherrunner · 12/08/2021 11:24

Just back from GCSE results day. Lots of happy faces and tears. The girls I spoke to generally thought they we’re going to perform poorly and all did better than expected. They are very much looking forward to Sept and the next steps.

ChloeDecker · 12/08/2021 12:04

They are very much looking forward to Sept and the next steps.

Exactly as it should be!
Grinds my gears the way, every year, young people’s achievements, whatever they are, are put down by the media, politicians with an axe to grind and some bitter members of the public.
