You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We were moderate in Science and they asked for very few.

We had only one triple class and they asked for 5 students Biology evidence (none from Chemistry or Physics) and none from double award or ELC.

No grades changed though (which is good!).

noblegiraffe · 07/08/2021 14:09

Well if no grades changed and there's 'rampant grade inflation', then that's on the exam boards isn't it?

I'd say so. I mean, if they've decided those grades are ok with minimal checking then that's their decision.

So Dh hasn't been contacted by t and t but several other employees have been pinged, it's seems by other people.

Covid must have hit their particular industry round here!

He's rather fed up as they've loads on next week, plus the rules change the day after everyone comes out of isolation...

which has resulted in him doing bugger all all day, grumpily

Anyway, we have the new green lateral flows for entertaining comparison daily testing purposes.

Interesting!!

Not sure what I think of Sussex's cash incentive. Not very fair on those who couldn't get their jab yet because they got the gift of covid instead.....

It reminds me of draws for prizes based on full school attendance, which I detest the unfairness of.

I think it said that the ‘prize’ would be offered to those who got the jab or were exempt, so hopefully anyone who had covid which stopped them being jabbed, would still get their name put in the hat.

Thanks Staff. Just reserving my magic tape free chair. Which reminds me some poor guy in the Coop today was on his hands and knees trying to scrub off the grubby glue left behind from all the tape and stickers.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 07/08/2021 19:02

Moan alert!

I've asked repeatedly if our rooms in our yeargroup block were going to be painted this year as they have been neglected when other places have been redecorated and were in a dire state. Was told no.

I only pop into school for half a day at the beginning of the holidays usually and half a day at the end. I tidy a bit and put new names etc on trays.

I went in to find that they had started painting so nothing was worth doing if they were then going to be in my room.

And now it's done

And it's been left like this....as have 4 other rooms.

And past experience suggests that none of it will be put back for us and we will be expected to do it ourselves.

We have one training day with no classroom time allocated in September.

Mistressiggi · 07/08/2021 19:04

Moving desks etc is not in your job description. What happens if you put your back out on the first day?

TheHoneyBadger · 07/08/2021 20:07

Email HT saying you have a back injury and popped into school to see (attach photo) and make clear you will not be fit to put it back and can she get onto site to make sure it is sorted?

MrsHamlet · 07/08/2021 20:11

Agree with honey. We knew our office was being done so boxed stuff up for site to move - they'll put all the furniture and boxes back and then we'll just unpack. It's ludicrous to expect you to deal with that - and with no time.

Hercisback · 07/08/2021 20:15

Thanks staff.

Frustrating about your classroom DrM. Definitely email and say you're not sorting it.

HarrietDVane · 07/08/2021 21:13

Just place marking - thank you for the new thread Staff. Hope you're all ok and enjoying the holiday.

PumpkinPie2016 · 08/08/2021 07:49

I reckon so @noblegiraffe but the general public are unlikely to see it that way 🙄

@DrMadelineMaxwell what a nightmare! And why no classroom time on INSET? We get a good chunk of faculty time and myself and HoF always ensure most of it is allocated for teachers to do their own planning/organising.

phlebasconsidered · 08/08/2021 10:58

We always have to restructure our classrooms after each deep clean and lug furniture about. We don't get given inset time to do it- it's expected that we go in over break to do it.

That is why my classroom is always very basic with basic boards and basic desks. No pinterest loveliness for me if I have to do it in my own time. And no daft coffee shop book corners either. I laminate nothing and my working walls are just that- walls with paper from the lesson explanation on.

I remember when I first strted teaching eons ago (I was secondary then) i didn't even do displays or photocopying/risographing. The TA or repro room did it! I used to leave out a class plan for September and the caretaker would sort my desks.

Mistressiggi · 08/08/2021 11:23

I doubt anything has actually changed though, if push came to shove lifting desks is not in our contracts and in fact if you injure yourself lifting a desk you'd be told you should not have done it. There will be staff who can move stuff more easily than waiting for a janitor, but also staff with back problems (etc) who simply could not do it.

CarrieBlue · 08/08/2021 13:11

I refuse to laminate anything - that but I’d paper does not need to be encased in plastic so that it lasts forever - just not needed in any way at all.

MsAwesomeDragon · 08/08/2021 20:36

I haven't laminated anything in years, but some of my colleagues have barely anything on their walls that isn't laminated. I just don't get it, the complete lack of concern about how much plastic is used. Then again the same colleagues bring 2 bottles of bottled water every day rather than drink the (very good, clean) water from the taps, so I shouldn't be surprised.

MrsHamlet · 08/08/2021 23:11

2 years ago, the head banned covering books with sticky backed plastic and the environment group asked that we get rid of bottled water and the plastic covers on the homework diary. So we did.
Then covid. Back to plastic bottles and plastic covers.

Ooh, we won’t be blamed for exam results. Head of Ofqual has given a statement about the fairness of grades and the processes the TAGs have been through.

Medra · 09/08/2021 08:22

Hope results week doesn’t bring too many headaches for anyone here. I’m pretty confident in my subject our pupils will mostly be pleased with their TAGs.
