You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@motherrunner

Just back from GCSE results day. Lots of happy faces and tears. The girls I spoke to generally thought they we’re going to perform poorly and all did better than expected. They are very much looking forward to Sept and the next steps.
That is such a lovely update! Hope that GCSE results day has gone well for everyone.

Having a day of doing "lots of nothing", in accordance with the requests of DC. I've started looking at Y13 content and have to get the house in order after nearly 3 weeks of different visitors! Feeling relaxed today Smile.

Saucery · 12/08/2021 12:09

Well done to them, motherrunner!

I’ll pass on the offboard group thing, but thank you for the invitations to all. Realistically, I wouldn’t be attending a meet up in the near future and I’d feel a bit stalky joining just to look at MrsH ‘s boots Grin

motherrunner · 12/08/2021 13:10

@ChloeDecker

They are very much looking forward to Sept and the next steps.

Exactly as it should be!
Grinds my gears the way, every year, young people’s achievements, whatever they are, are put down by the media, politicians with an axe to grind and some bitter members of the public.

Agree @ChloeDecker. It’s like no one is allowed to be successful anymore. Better results are due to easier exams/lax exam boards/now Covid. Couldn’t be the pupils actually worked!
eitak22 · 12/08/2021 14:26

Overheard someone on the radio arguing that its not fair on next year's kids if they work super hard and get the same as this year's (because covid has been so easy on children's MHHmm) so there should be a 10 next year. I'd rather celebrate the success of the children who have had 2 v important years with significant absence due to covid.

Read this - details of trials in 30 Bradford schools, some initial indications by Christmas (we’re obviously going to ignore other countries’ data!):

Well done to all whose dc got GCSE results today.

I made lots of calls to students and got a lot enrolled into 6th form. Apparently overall, our 6th form recruitment is looking good at our school which is great.

Pleased with our results. The kids worked hard (as did we) so their results are well deserved.

I could really do with doing some September planning at some point as I have done absolutely nothing Grin Maybe next week!

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2021 18:05

And some criticism from scientists and architects, and comparisons with what other countries are already installing in schools

CallmeHendricks · 12/08/2021 18:10

So, secondary schools are in the news this week for A level and GCSE results. Lots to discuss.
Where the fuck is Gavin?

Hercisback · 12/08/2021 18:28

Where's KoG when we need her?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/08/2021 18:38

Not strictly to do with schools, but it is to do with the HART chat logs so linked to UfT since they seem to have gone full antivax now.

Hopefully clearing his desk, if that leak earlier in the week is correct.

Our head’s put out on SM a nice statement congratulating recipients of exam results but also teachers, the “unsung heroes of the past year.”

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2021 18:40

Interesting Rafa

That's nice, Jan! I bet it was appreciated.

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2021 18:58

More relevant stuff, data from Scotland on remedies for low levels of student home testing (or at least, testing and reporting, a point which the article appears to miss although they are simplifying the reporting process). Was there never any in school testing in Scotland, mistress. dolly?

TheHoneyBadger · 12/08/2021 19:57

Our HT has made a similar statement.

Right so on another thread I just wrote, "Guilty, I have gently persuaded him back to bed" and thought ew I don't like that sentence, having that guiltily at the front and then I thought - that's a fronted adverbial isn't it? Grin

Is it? Shows how rarely I ever use them in my writing because it felt all clunky and weird when I read it.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/08/2021 19:57

Sorry the quote should have said guiltily.

DreamingofBrie · 12/08/2021 20:30

Grin indeed! I always forget what a fronted adverbial is!

Mistressiggi · 12/08/2021 20:56

Janglybeads, no not in the areas I know of anyway. We supplied tests, still are, but they administer them at home. Same for staff. I've no idea how many do it.

borntobequiet · 12/08/2021 21:32

A first page with a fronted adverbial is enough to put me off a book.

borntobequiet · 12/08/2021 21:34

Horrible stylistic device.

Saucery · 12/08/2021 21:46

Wearily, I loaded the PowerPoint and said “This morning, Class, we are going to be doing Fronted Adverbials…..”

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2021 22:17

😆 saucery

DollyMixtureLulus · 12/08/2021 23:13

Was there never any in school testing in Scotland, mistress. dolly?

Only at home LFTs, as far as I know. Mistress is secondary so will know for sure.

Lovely to hear all the results stories!

DollyMixtureLulus · 12/08/2021 23:16

Last day of the holidays tomorrow and I am going on a date! I am quite excited.

Beachhuts90 · 12/08/2021 23:47

A 6 year old told me what a time fronted adverbial is, in my first week or two of being a TA. 😂 I know a lot of grammar from having taken Latin but that did NOT come up.
