You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Sha can, because she will work harder. And her political views are terrifying.

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/08/2021 08:17

I really don't know anything about her. I've googled her and still don't have a full picture of her views, but she's been described as "appalling" by an lbgt group and "terrifying" by several groups of ethnic minorities. I rather suspect I'd prefer to keep Gav.

I'm glad you're feeling better enough to be annoyed by this stuff again piggy

Saucery · 11/08/2021 08:26

I’m on the opposite side of the LGB/T group so I am more kindly disposed to her, but I’ll leave that there as this isn’t the place for those discussions, I know.
Had to laugh at Krishnan On CH4 News last night, refusing to stop asking the junior (universities?) minister why Gav wouldn’t speak to CH4 News about anything. She kept saying Well, I’m here! and he was like, Yeah, but GAV won’t speak to us and he’s Education Minister! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 08:39

She will ban things in schools, mark my words... if she gets her way we'll be back to the Thatcher clause 28 type days.

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 08:41

Gav not saying his A Level results was so silly. I guess he is embarrassed . I bet he feels he is the thicko of the cabinet. To be fair one thing he has never done is appeared terribly snobbish or elitist (somewhat the opposite)and I don't believe he would sneer at students who don't have 5 A stars and an Oxbridge degree.

His A level results are known anyway! CCD, iirrc.

Yikes. Maybe Gav the useless would be a better option.

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 08:42

I don't think there is a decent person for education in the frontline of this all new Tory party, sadly. they are all ideologues.

Saucery · 11/08/2021 08:56

Gav missed a trick there - he would have gone up in my estimation if he said what his A level results were then outlined the path he took to get where he is today. I mean, where he is today is a useless, knee-jerk incompetent of an Education Minister, but that isn’t the fault of his A level results.
I like hearing about people who didn’t do so well then found another path. It was inspirational for me when I was a teenager and it’s inspirational for those going through it today.

How did he get where he is today? He’s not the brightest, doesn’t seem hard working.

eitak22 · 11/08/2021 09:10

I absolutely hate how much of a political football education is, everytime there's a new government or minister.

Do we think Kemi will want rows in primary still?

noblegiraffe · 11/08/2021 09:11

I got where I am today by keeping detailed notes as Chief Whip on things Boris would rather the public didn’t know, and if you’re not sure how bad that might get, think about the things they do know.

Kemi was the one who got in a row with a journalist over not appearing in a vaccines video, wasn’t she?

By no means an unbiased account but here you go

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 09:30

Massive row. Kemi was not disciplined and the journalist was hugely trolled on Twitter. Kevin is as unpleasant as they come. Also no background of education work at all, other than parent governor.

Left my auto correct there.

Congratulations Saucery Can't and Keira

I tried to post yesterday, but couldn't for some reason, so hopefully this one will work.

I am incredibly proud of DD - she was very upset about her GCSE results 2 years ago, and it took a lot of work to get college to still accept her on to the Level 3 course, but she worked exceptionally hard and was rewarded with D, D, D* ! Lots of tears yesterday, but very different tears to those that were shed 2 years ago.

Saucery · 11/08/2021 10:11

Brilliant news, chocolate! You must be so proud of her tenacity!

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 10:38

Yay to those receiving results. What a year to be a teacher/ education worker, and parent!

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/08/2021 10:40

Fabulous news chocolate!!!!

keiratwiceknightly · 11/08/2021 11:00

Fab news chocolate. Well done that girl.

Hercisback · 11/08/2021 11:01

Congratulations on the results all!!

Kemi seems an interesting choice. I don't think any of them would be any good really. The best thing they could do is get rid of the role and take education out of politics.

CallmeHendricks · 11/08/2021 11:57

Anyone know what the form is for an nhs directive for 2weeks' quarantine for ds and the whole family before she has surgery at some point soon (ish)?

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 12:01

My stepmum is having surgery on Friday. She did 10 days with a PCR yesterday. DF didn't have to SI.

I do know of whole families who have done it but not recently and not for 2 weeks.

HarrietDVane · 11/08/2021 12:16

Morning all and congratulations Chocolate! You must be so very proud.

I'm getting very twitchy about next year's A-levels as DD will be impacted. The horrifying shenanigans with her GCSEs were bad enough, but I'm wondering what they'll do next year to counter the perceived 'grade inflation' that we hear so much about Hmm - no doubt they'll make their decisions around Easter time and communicate them to schools in May.

Much as I'd love to see the back of Gav, this might well be a time to be careful what we wish for...!

CallmeHendricks · 11/08/2021 12:19

@Piggywaspushed, well she had her pre-op appointment this morning and they were quite adamant about it. So pretty up-to-date, but if it's true what the hell am I meant to do re: school?!
