You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

True, mother 😂

motherrunner · 10/08/2021 13:51

The biggest smile we had today was from our deputy head girl. She achieved 2A*, 2As but she’s going to defer uni as has got an apprenticeship in marketing. She loves photography and been building a portfolio for years, going to different sporting events and asking for experience. Next week she is touring with Adam Peaty for 10 days, photographing his post Olympic talks. She said she might not even go to uni if she enjoys the apprenticeship. Few like shouting on MN, this is a girl who didn’t let lockdown knock her back and she bloody deserved her grades!

motherrunner · 10/08/2021 13:51

*feel

cantkeepawayforever · 10/08/2021 14:03

DD got her grades today. They’re excellent, and include an EPQ done almost wholly all on her own during lockdown. She’ll be one of those ‘girls who did well in Maths’, because she worked like a Trojan all the way through, rather than the bots in her group who were mostly of the ‘I always pull it out of the bag in exams’ variety.

cantkeepawayforever · 10/08/2021 14:04

Boys, not bots.

PumpkinPie2016 · 10/08/2021 14:25

Well done to your daughter @cantkeepawayforever and everyone else whose children are getting results.

The post in aibu made me really angry. I awarded an A to one of my students who was absolutely consistently getting As all the way through. I am so awarded a D to a student whose target was B, because they were working consistently at a D all the way through. Both grades were accurate and deserved!

Beachhuts90 · 10/08/2021 14:45

Goady posts like the one in AIBU always sound fake to me.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 15:00

I feel we should prefix these statements with, 'alleged'. Eg. an 'alleged' teacher has said....

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 15:03

Maybe an alleged teacher who is jealous she doesn't get a'level classes? I'm personally still reeling from trying to teach a'level Philosophy and Ethics to kids with very inappropriate GCSE grades many years ago so no envy from me. Would happily contribute to A'level Social Sciences but even then would rather share groups (and marking and planning). Ime there's a much easier time in the classroom but a lot of work outside of it for a'level.

I'd way prefer to teach at degree level than a'level tbh - I personally found the former easier and a lot less dull than the latter.

Saucery · 10/08/2021 17:13

DS got what he needed to go where he wants to go - phew!
Anyone who wants to wank on about inflated grades can just go ahead. Exams were sat, results were fair
Thanks once again to all who taught A Level and GCSE this year Flowers

MrsHamlet · 10/08/2021 17:40

Hooray saucery

Beachhuts90 · 10/08/2021 18:28

Yay!! Congratulations!

RigaBalsam · 10/08/2021 18:36

Thanks staff

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 18:42

Congratulations to mini saucery and mini can't. 🎉🎉🎉

DreamingofBrie · 10/08/2021 18:43

Congratulations to your children, Saucery and Can't! Fantastic news.

Medra · 10/08/2021 18:54

Well done @cantkeepawayforever and @Saucery ‘s children!

cantkeepawayforever · 10/08/2021 20:52

Thanks all!

keiratwiceknightly · 10/08/2021 21:23

Popping in to say that my dd got ABB with A* for an EPQ. She has a place at Lancaster and we are beyond proud.

Well done to other staffroom children, and also to the staff who pushed through the shit to get the young people the grades despite the government's failings.

DreamingofBrie · 10/08/2021 21:39

Well done to your dd, Keira! Lancaster University looks lovely, I did a school visit with Y12 a few years ago.

noblegiraffe · 10/08/2021 22:07

Well done to DC getting results today, it has been a bloody hard year for them. Hope they are all proud of their achievements.

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 07:24

Morning all. Improved enough to be irritated by the headlines about how much better A Level results in private schools were.

Lets' all just ignore the story three days ago about silly state school not 'gaming the system' eh? I really don't think this is actually about learning gaps but they don't want to say that, for fear of criticising the TAG system or appear to be accusing some schools of cheating. DH's private school definitely didn't game the system , but I fully imagine Eton did since those articles about the links between Oxbridge admission and certain schools/old boy network.

Kate Green on BBC1 now. I am sure she just wants to say we should abolish private schools but isn't!

It's annoying me that she keeps saying 'pupils, like Gav says 'children'.

JanglyBeads · 11/08/2021 07:49

Gav to be replaced (by Friday, I heard on radio earlier?) - shot of Times front page:

WhenSheWasBad · 11/08/2021 07:50

Morning.

I just popped in to say I can’t believe the papers. Looks as if teachers aren’t being blamed for grade inflation and Gav might be out Shock

I’ve not been on mumsnet this week so I’ve no idea what is being said. It’s quite nice

Piggywaspushed · 11/08/2021 07:50

Oh God, not Kemi Badenoch!!

I feel awful when I slag off a woman, but...

Saucery · 11/08/2021 07:59

But Gav gone? A case of anyone is better! She can’t be any worse, surely.
