You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

@MrsHamlet

2 years ago, the head banned covering books with sticky backed plastic and the environment group asked that we get rid of bottled water and the plastic covers on the homework diary. So we did. Then covid. Back to plastic bottles and plastic covers.

🤦🏻‍♀️

The new lateral flow tests seem even more plasticky. :(

Dh has tested negative but he got the test 3 days after low level contact from his now poorly employee. He hasn't been contacted by t and t; just the person sitting next to her.

However, have I read that Delta takes a bit longer to show up on tests?

WarriorN · 09/08/2021 08:36

We have to do plans of how we want the classroom to be laid out if they're going to do lots of shifting of furniture.

Our h and s rules are v strict due to the number of people who get bad backs working with our children (Sen.) They've had too many absences in the past.

Of course we still do shift stuff but the rules are there and we are supposed to ask for the caretakers to do it, technically.

eitak22 · 09/08/2021 08:55

Checking in. Just back from holiday which was nice and relaxing and dare I say it normal.

Hope results day goes well for all of you whether it's your exam groups or children, definitely going to stay away from the main boards/news thurs as it will only make me mad.

As for laminating we only laminate stuff we reuse like titles for displays etc I hate our roller machine as it wastes so much plastic whereas the sleeves I try and fit as much as I can in.

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/08/2021 10:01

Hello. This time next week we will be back

I want to get more environmentally friendly as well. I think I’m going to push for online homework, rather than paper going home never to be looked at.

Back to more jotter work as well… Whiteboard pens must be shocking environmentally but then you don’t rely on paper? Confused

Mistressiggi · 09/08/2021 10:36

Don't view it that way Dolly. View it that you have a whole week off! If it was October, you'd be very happy today!

An interesting view on schools here!

Hope everyone is ok and it’s less wet for some of you than it is here Confused

LolaSmiles · 09/08/2021 11:27

Checking in and back from holiday. I've had a couple of weeks where I've avoided almost everything education based. It's been wonderful.

DollyMixtureLulus · 09/08/2021 12:01

Mistress I would be delighted if if was October! You are so right!

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 12:11

That guardian article is disturbing, especially in light of no isolation of close contacts.

Piggywaspushed · 09/08/2021 13:06

Yeah and double vacced people just carrying on will affect teachers...

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 13:38

If I get infected I’m sick and I’m staying at home. That’s that.

HSHorror · 09/08/2021 16:32

How are you and family doing piggy?

WarriorN · 09/08/2021 17:32

Only just read you're Covid struck Piggy; hope you're ok. What a fucker.

WarriorN · 09/08/2021 17:33

@TheHoneyBadger

If I get infected I’m sick and I’m staying at home. That’s that.

Given how the jab knocked me out for 5 weeks I'll be making sure I'm 100% before I'm back.

Piggywaspushed · 09/08/2021 17:36

OK now thanks warrior. I hope so anyway. It comes in waves. One minute I can skip around the garden, the next I feel terrible.

You don't go to work if sick with double jab . But all your close contacts including your family go about daily business. Literally they have forgotten there that people get ill. there is no way at all that DH would have left me to go to work. Or that any parent would leave a child to be looked after by a sick personal and swan off to the pub/office. well some would...

PumpkinPie2016 · 09/08/2021 19:07

Best of luck to everyone for results days this week!

Think ours will be pleased tomorrow🤞

I also haven't done anything work wise so far and it has been lovely! Twitter is full of very committed folks doing lots of amazing prep but I just haven't been able to face it yet. Had a lovely holiday and then chilled over the weekend and saw my lovely Aunt with DS today.

I will do a little prep over the next few weeks though to avoid absolute mayhem in September 😂

HarrietDVane · 09/08/2021 21:45

Best of luck to secondary colleagues and any of you with DC awaiting results tomorrow.

Piggy - hope you are feeling better soon; I didn't realise you were poorly (obviously missed a post somewhere!).

motherrunner · 10/08/2021 06:31

Morning all. Time for a shower, get kids ready to drop at MILs and then it’s onto school. Hoping this Alevel results day is better than last!

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 06:44

Morning. I'm trying to figure out where I can take dd2 and puppy while the noisy work of fitting a new bathroom takes place. And I'm still removing everything from the bathroom so they can get in there and do their thing.

motherrunner · 10/08/2021 06:46

Daily Mail reporting almost half of today’s results with be grade A and above 🤔

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 06:46

I'm not going in for A Level results. My class have very fair results, in fact I think a couple of them are a bit high. But there will still be some disappointed young people in there, as they won't be getting into their first choice of course with the grades they're getting.

motherrunner · 10/08/2021 06:47

Have you anyone to stay with?

We’re having an extension next year. We’ll be without a kitchen or bathroom for 2 months. I feel sick at the thought.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 06:48

That's not the case for my class. We have the full range of results from A* ask the way down to U within the department. We would normally get a full range of grades, and this lot aren't any better than other yeargroups.

MsAwesomeDragon · 10/08/2021 06:51

No, nobody to stay with. It'll only take a few days, so day trips are the order of the day I think. Possibly the beach, or the park, we might even go up to Hadrian's wall for a day.

Dd1 thinks she's staying in the house all day, but I can guarantee that the noise will drive her out so she'll join us tomorrow.

MrsHamlet · 10/08/2021 07:55

My year 13 won't all be getting top grades. They're getting what I expect they would've got which range from A* to E.
if almost half the grades are A and above, something is very wrong.
