You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Hope you are all OK can't Brew.

No results yet from PCR tests

Anecdotally the days of being able to book a quick PCR appointment and get the results within 24 hours appear to be over.

Beachhuts90 · 11/07/2021 11:17

Fingers crossed for your pcr results soon!!

I love a good castle/stately home. I also love a good gift shop, the weirder the better.

MrsHamlet · 11/07/2021 11:19

I love really odd places. Small town museums of random shite are heavenly. Theme parks aren't my thing at all... although I did enjoy park asterix on a school trip years ago.

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/07/2021 11:25

Theme parks aren't my thing either. I've been to a few with the dds as I thought they would enjoy it. They cope fine with the rides for young children (as do I) but don't like the bigger rides (neither do I). So we've stopped going to them and have trips to the beach/EH places instead.

Some of you would love the weird Victorian religious cult museum DS plans to volunteer at!

noblegiraffe · 11/07/2021 11:33

I loathe going to the beach. My kids love going to the beach. It’s a trial.

Ooh, that does sound good. I love a good weird museum.
MrsHamlet · 11/07/2021 11:36

That museum sounds great Piggy

I like a quiet beach where I can walk barefoot and paddle in the sea. I don't do just sitting on the beach, and I'm not a huge fan of sandcastles. Luckily, dd2 enjoys splashing in the shallow water (occasionally gets overexcited and gets fully sodden) so we can happily while away an afternoon just playing in the water. My sister lives a 5 minute walk from the beach, yet rarely goes, I don't understand it!!
CallmeHendricks · 11/07/2021 11:39

I remember the absolute euphoria I felt on the first "proper" day out on the beach we had with our two when they were toddlers. They were completely self-sufficient, all day. They were kitted out with buckets, spades, watering cans and so forth and just pottered about without any of the "Mummy/Daddy/Mummy/Daddy" stuff. We just sat back and watched; DH joined in out of choice to build a big fuck-off castle to compete with the other dads but it was very relaxing, overall.

Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2021 11:54

I'd love to live near the sea or a lake or Loch. Where I am now the journey almost isn't worth it.

Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2021 11:54

Outside weird museum now as DS has interview. It has a nice garden and cafe noble.

noblegiraffe · 11/07/2021 12:00

I’ll be in the cafe having a cup of tea and a bun!

cantkeepawayforever · 11/07/2021 12:03

I am guessing a museum with a name related to universal healing / benefit, Piggy? I don't think it was around, or I certainly didn't visit it, when living in the town, though I remember lacemaking displays in the local museum.

Why I love camping. DH and I getting drunk in a field whilst the DCs are off climbing trees/playing football/finding other kids to tear around with.
Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2021 12:15

That's the one can't!

cantkeepawayforever · 11/07/2021 12:19

Remember the town very fondly - lived there for a few years before and after I got married. Lovely parks, and the only place I have lived where the two ways of approaching our flat were 'turn right past the posh private girls' school' or 'turn left after the second sex shop', depending on the exact route taken [and depending on who we were directing]!

MrsHamlet · 11/07/2021 12:19

I'll join noble for tea and a bun after I've been round and bought some tat in the gift shop.

Piggywaspushed · 11/07/2021 12:23

Ha! That sums the town up!

cantkeepawayforever · 11/07/2021 12:26

Also the only place where I have actually processed, singing and carrying palms, behind a donkey on Palm Sunday ... across a main road bridge into the town, in full public gaze. The sort of town where pretty much anything can happen without the locals so much as batting an eyelid....

HSHorror · 11/07/2021 12:27

Dd2 was a runner and no open space was relaxing for many years. Maybe till 4yo.
She did enjoy the beach but still had to keep a close eye.
At 4 she took herself out of the softplay on holiday and to the toilet but got trapped in there by people wondering why she was alone. Otherwise would probably have taken herself back to softplay. Very determined and thinks she is older than she is. Even older than older sister. (Though dc1 is difficult too so seems younger than her age so overall no idea what kids their age are generally like).

WARNING: Slightly radical suggestion!

We could attempt a f2f meet during these summer holidays. Just for a few hours, maybe outside. At least a week after everyone’s finished so we hopefully couldn’t create a giant super-spreader event.

I think we originally said, as many did, “when this is all over”. But that could be a very long time away!

Thoughts?

MrsHamlet · 11/07/2021 12:41

I'm up for that Jan
