You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

We are still waiting advice on chairs and masks but keep the windows open. You don’t have to upload LFT results during the holidays.Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask.

Ethan's are hit and miss in my experience.

Just seen one of my year 8s in the village with a black eye - sports day today.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2021 18:40

Just realised all my naughty year 9 boys have names which start Al

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/07/2021 18:42

I agree re the Ethan’s, nice or naughty, no in between. Josh used to be an eye roll name at our place a couple of years ago, each year group had at least one nightmare one!

Am just wondering if I was wise to volunteer to do extra hours in the end Aug/Sept temporary test centre. The pay rate offered was attractive and I need the money, and I’m presuming distancing and masks will be allowed for us at least (is that foolish of me?), but am just thinking about the high case rates there’ll still be in the community by then. Some of them will have been abroad too of course.

Hmm, let’s wait and see.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/07/2021 18:43

Our Y10s have finally all been sent home, it was ridiculous, there were at least 10 cases, over 100 isolating and still PH hadn’t (I believe) recommended closure.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 18:46

I am in such a bad mood. Tired. Grumpy. Fed up.

A car parked outside our house earlier when I wanted to park there and it was the most annoying thing that has ever happened.

DreamingofBrie · 15/07/2021 18:50

@MrsHamlet

In my pigeon hole today, a box of heroes and a thank you card from Bob. Investigations uncovered that the only other people bestowed with gifts were his form tutor and the man who runs isolation. Bless him.
You've clearly made a difference to Bob, MrsH. Hope it's made up a bit for yesterday.
TheHoneyBadger · 15/07/2021 18:51

I have dealt with doctors (fuck me we get some stick but they're still useless at doing things remotely and haven't got decent systems in place), finally booked a blood test because my mum has to go for one which inspired me to try and book the same time as her at the hospital so I could get a lift and buy her lunch afterwards and she knew the tricks for booking online. No more condescending phone calls about my thyroid and having to beg for my levothyroxine each month hopefully.

My house which is a tip might finally get a look in soon. I have two pieces of self assembly furniture in boxes in my lounge that I haven't had the energy to put together and if I don't clean my kitchen floor soon I will be breeding new super bacteria to take out human life with which is all we need on top of covid.

I am at that knackered but kind of bullet proof stage where you know it's nearly done. Obviously very glad we finish tomorrow and not next week like some of you.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/07/2021 18:53

May 🧁, 💐 and online gaming wins come to you noble.

Reassuring to read, in linked TES articles, that no one appears to know how contact tracing in schools is going to work from Monday. Fab-u-lous.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/07/2021 18:53

I've had tons of emails about overseas jobs at internationals by the way if anyone is looking for a change. I even had one for a librarian a while back Jan and thought of you.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 19:05

Thanks Jan. Not sure about online gaming wins (do I come across as someone who plays Fortnite?) but I am contemplating a twix.

Today should have been Friday. Why is it not Friday?

People on the main boards going 'gosh I'm looking forward to getting back to normality on Monday.' Do you know what 'normality' looks like, with no masks and no social distancing? It looks like everyone getting covid, and it's not fun.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2021 19:06

I am in bad mood too. More cases today and we are still having our Fun Day. Everyone Will Join In and Have Fun.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/07/2021 19:10

Naughties:
Aaron/Arron definitely. Ditto Connor. Kyle.
Girls: Sophie, or usually something "uneeq" spelling wise. Often hyphenated too.

In other news, I am getting a PUPPY over summer holidays so have destroyed all possibilities of restful weeks by dealing with a leaky cute thing.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 19:16

Mandatory fun is the worst.

I once worked for a company where morale was rock bottom and people were quitting left right and centre.

They made the summer do during the work day and banned anyone from taking the day off to force us to go. It was outdoor games and a barbecue and it rained. Misery.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/07/2021 19:19

It was just that I thought you told us at one point that you spent time gaming? I didn’t mean Fortnite, anyway!

Everyone at our place thought it was Friday too, weird.

St least one, possibly two of the colleagues who’d expressed interest in that 7.5 hrs admin job hasn’t applied. Maybe I’ll be the only one....

And heard today that a slightly difficult and not very effective colleague is shifting roles. Hoorah!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/07/2021 19:20

I spent yesterday playing with a litter of puppies and choosing one, guy. (Not for me sadly). Highly recommend it as a form of relaxation.

Back in work for the first day after a week off with my mum. Virtually everyone who isn’t on leave is self-isolating because they live with someone who has covid. I’m the last woman standing on my pay grade. This is a lot less relaxing.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 19:35

I grew up gaming, Jan, I don't anymore. My kids and DH do, I just Mumsnet.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/07/2021 19:36

All the challenging kids begin with K.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/07/2021 19:37

I do Fortnite, it's fun. I'm shit at it tho. Minecraft is better.

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2021 19:39

We have raised the 189 days! Head claimed no knowledge. Mwahahahaha. Surely LA has told schools??

Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2021 19:40

I'd rather serrate my eyeballs than game.

Saying that though, I was once obsessed with Goldeneye on N64. And Beehive Bedlam on the telly when it had games on it.

eitak22 · 15/07/2021 19:41

Id agree with Sophie as a name for girls with attitude although my worst culprit begins with E. Never known someone be able to pout for the entire day, even when our for a fun school trip! Or answer every request to something (like sit down) with Why?

Am absolutely exhausted and sick of the attitude and lack if respect I am getting from children atm. We're talking 10 year old screeching at me.

MsAwesomeDragon · 15/07/2021 19:47

@noblegiraffe

That's me too. I was playing computer games at about 3 on a fancy computer (zx spectrum) that my dad had to build himself because that's how computers came in those days. I had a fantastic amount of fun playing computer games as a child/teen/young adult. Dh and I actually met on an online game (world of warcraft) and that's how we got together. Unfortunately, I don't have time for that now because I MN. Dh and both dds play computer games. Dd2 developed quite an addiction to Roblox over both lockdowns, and even persuaded us to have family Roblox sessions some evenings.
Piggywaspushed · 15/07/2021 19:55

I don't think this will out me but my ex NDN had a very very long surname beginning with K in her first marriage and then a very short one beginning with K in her second All the woman's 5 children had names beginning with K :- Kyle, Kiera, Katie, Khloe and two others I have forgotten.

It was like a less beautiful Kardashian family.

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 19:56

Your maths doesn't add up, Piggy!

noblegiraffe · 15/07/2021 19:57

What I like best about the Kardashians is that they are Kylie, Khloe, Kim, Kourtney, Kendall and....Rob.
