You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Do any of you work at the schools allowing the kids to sleep in until 10.30 on Monday to be able to watch the football?

No, but I think my head might offer it. She’ll say optional though if she does. Loads of SAHP/WFH parents in my class, so a fair few would come in later I think.

The most annoying kid of course will be dropped off at 7.30 as usual though, and there’ll be fewer of the others around to dilute her.

Jan you posted on here that your dream job was chief librarian teaching Y7.

Get your arse in gear chasing up that Y7 intervention before you settle for filing.

A thank you from Gav..... (Worth clicking on the link to article at the bottom too)

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/07/2021 22:29

You’re right too noble. I’m going to have to apply (deadline Wed) in the meantime though. It would help if I knew who my boss would be but it’ll be our new DH, so she’s an unknown quantity.

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/07/2021 22:29

mistress, Grin

HarrietDVane · 08/07/2021 22:33

Has their been any update on next year's exams yet? I haven't seen anything in the media. DD1 is currently in Y12 so any changes will affect her.

noblegiraffe · 08/07/2021 22:35

Course not, Harriet, they were too busy banning mobile phones.

HarrietDVane · 08/07/2021 22:36

I did wonder! I can see now that banning phones was a much clearer priority Hmm

noblegiraffe · 08/07/2021 22:37

That photo of Gav is asking for a smacking.

That letter is just a rehash of the guidance with 'we are pleased to remove all safety measures, get your jabs folks cos you'll need them' added.

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/07/2021 22:47

It does clarify that we’ll still have the delights of sanitising everything and freezing in winter though, come on noble!

Where’s your can do attitude gone today?(Grin)

Look! The new guidance says that only in exceptional circumstances will T&T have to ask schools for help in identifying close contacts. (That’ll be when it’s Bob, or Millie in Reception/Y1/2/3/4/5, then.....)

• undertake contact tracing.
As with positive cases in any other setting, NHS Test and Trace will work with the positive case to identify close contacts. Contacts from a school setting will only be traced by NHS Test and Trace where the positive case specifically identifies the individual as being a close contact. This is likely to be a small number of individuals who would be most at risk of contracting COVID-19 due to the nature of the close contact. You may be contacted in exceptional cases to help with identifying close contacts, as currently happens in managing other infectious diseases.^

Test and trace are just going to say nobody was near enough to count as a close enough contact, aren’t they!!
JanFebAnyMonth · 08/07/2021 23:15

They’ve seriously gone mad, haven’t they?

noblegiraffe · 08/07/2021 23:26

Like, was Matt Hancock holding back the tide???

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/07/2021 23:36

I think he was more cautious than Ayn Rand worshipping economically focused types.

Oh my word. I think... I fear... you might be right. This is madness.
noblegiraffe · 08/07/2021 23:38

Yeah but I never assumed that 'fucking hopeless' Matt Hancock actually had any power.

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/07/2021 23:47

Oh and have you seen that Jennie Harries has admitted upon questioning that their “plan” for schools it not based on any modelling? (Not surprising really, but....)

thecatfromjapan · 08/07/2021 23:53
Sad

Eh? Never visited a school? That's actually hilarious. Are they just going to ask them who they've snogged and saying sitting next to people, eating with them, sitting on the bus with them etc doesn't count?

TheHoneyBadger · 09/07/2021 00:02

They think we've been exaggerating close contacts basically and that when test and trace do it there'll only be two per child or something. Rude awakenings to come me thinks.

noblegiraffe · 09/07/2021 00:04

Have you seen there's been a spate of posters on the covid section claiming that schools have been telling kids to isolate and it's not legal? That they are not close contacts according to test and trace and shouldn't have to isolate?

Fuck knows where they've read that but they're keen to spread it around.
