You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

@JanFebAnyMonth, your thread is nuts. Why do people resort to insults so quickly? It's like many mini Donald Trumps just putting a hand up and refusing to entertain any opposing viewpoints.

Mistressiggi · 08/07/2021 09:39

Congrats on the football win!
I went for a nap last night and woke up 15 hours later Blush Holidays are tiring Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 08/07/2021 09:40

Oh yes, fixtures, poor dear Wink

JanFebAnyMonth · 08/07/2021 11:17

I know re my thread! (Haven’t looked at it for an hour, so I dare?!)

Ah, 2021 Life: am currently (half an hour until I need to leave for work) double zoom/ Teams ing
1 we have a virtual author visit, organised by English not Library, very good (Ross Montgomery, hasn’t heard him before, I now need to read his Midnight Guardians) but I keep having connection problems. Y7 seem pretty engrossed from what I can see. Slightly weird TEAMSing into school, plus a “visitor”, in my own time. My choice though.

2 Am listening to the iSAGE scientists and politicians Emergency Summit on why Boris’s plans are such a disaster. The word immoral seems to occur a lot.

TheHoneyBadger · 08/07/2021 11:27

What's your thread about Jan?

I'm currently researching travel to Egypt via Milan - if Italy goes to amber I could potentially fly out via Milan, come back and spend ten days in Milan and then come home in time to quarantine at home for 10 days. Possible pie in the sky but just seeing if it's even viable flight prices and availability wise.

CallmeHendricks · 08/07/2021 12:34

Well in my Yr 4 class, 24 out of 26 here today watched it right to the end. They're drooping all over the tables! I had to stop teaching and take them all out for a run mid-maths to wake them up.

cantkeepawayforever · 08/07/2021 14:02

Bleurgh. DD looks to have caught Covid, so had to rush home at lunchtime and am out to the testing centre this afternoon....

TheHoneyBadger · 08/07/2021 14:07

Oh no Cant. Hope it's a false alarm.

We've got a couple of confirmed cases now and kids out isolating and HT seemingly expecting more fast. Almost made it to the end of term.

Oh no, hoping it’s just a summer cold (my dd’s had a stinker - we tested it’s not Covid).

Hope it’s nothing.
Next week is going to be weird.

Oh no!! I hope it's a false alarm and you get a negative PCR.

We've had 4 new cases today, all different year groups, so loads of kids sent home and loads of disruption today. Most of the kids sent home are relatively happy, because they think they're starting their summer holidays now. And if they don't do any of the work we set, what can we do?

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/07/2021 15:49

@cantkeepawayforever hope PCR come back negative…. All our LFT positives this half term have been overruled by negative PCR and everyone back in recently.. all that work pulling out kids, contacting home, getting them collected etc… then 48 hours all back in each time 😱

cantkeepawayforever · 08/07/2021 16:00

Snotty, a bit hot and positive LFT don't seem like a great combination - and she's less than 2 weeks post 1st vaccine (just finished school) so not well protected.

noblegiraffe · 08/07/2021 16:07

The Evening Standard has decided to do an article about spads illustrated with this photo.

I can’t imagine why. 🤔

Hope your DD is OK cant!

Meanwhile we are having facepainting and games...

borntobequiet · 08/07/2021 16:16

Our PE teachers were very good at teaching their second subjects, Head of Boys’ PE was especially effective at teaching Maths to naughty boy Y10 and Y11 groups.
I found being involved in coaching a sport (out of school) improved my teaching in a number of ways.

motherrunner · 08/07/2021 16:45

DH’s second subject is English which is unusual I think for a PE teacher. He only gets given KS3 though.

motherrunner · 08/07/2021 16:46

@cantkeepawayforever Let us know how your DD is 💐

HSHorror · 08/07/2021 16:54

Dc school up to 3 now. Which is a lot when we'd only had that many all pandemic (and most were lockdown learning ones).

Anyone’s school opening later Monday? I bloody hope my DCs can be dropped off usual time.

I hope not. Plus I need to give two of my classes an end of year test on Monday. I realise this will not make me popular.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/07/2021 17:09

Oh no, can’t. Hope your DD is ok.

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/07/2021 17:27

I’m going to go against the grain! I’d love a later start…. It’s the sort of thing my head would do too 🤣 as well as blast it’s coming home over the tannoy and send everyone feral at the end of the day!

motherrunner · 08/07/2021 17:50

Made me laugh so much!

Hoping your daughter is ok @cantkeepawayforever

I had 12/28 isolating from my form today!

I am so tired now as well Sad feel like I am literally crawling to the end of term and things seem to be irritating me more than normalConfused

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/07/2021 18:08

I asked for a show of hands of who had watched to the end. 14 out of 20. Scrapped lesson on present perfect tense (!) and did some admin with them instead. We then read out class novel for 45 mins and went to break. Had to roll out the cool picture books this afternoon. Journey, Quest and Return.

Have looked at remainder of curriculum for the year, have decided it's boring, so I'm going rogue for the last 7 days. Loads of big art.
