You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

You've forgotten the glitter, harriet. It's all glitter and playdough.

MrsHamlet · 07/07/2021 21:50

Everyone is really excited that we're going back to single lessons. I keep thinking that 2lots of 100 minutes is less unpleasant than 4 of 50. That's 4 days a week to dread...

CallmeHendricks · 07/07/2021 21:55

OK, Rule, you win. I just had my classroom turned over, requiring a complete evacuation, but I think I'd rather that than what you had to endure.

HarrietDVane · 07/07/2021 22:08

Rafa - I have an aversion to glitter. Am I even a real primary teacher if I won't have it in the room?! Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/07/2021 22:20

I just had my classroom turned over, requiring a complete evacuation

That was going on in the corridor today. I walked past and asked the perpetrator to 'please put the chairs back, thanks' on my way - barely even slowing down. I walked back 15 minutes later and he'd put it all back. Haha.

We were discussing which would we rather - ongoing annoyance, or massive blowup. Blow up won.

Hercisback · 07/07/2021 22:21

Massive blow up every time.

I don't know how you legging clad, scarf wearing, tiny human herding primary school teachers do it.

MrsHamlet · 07/07/2021 22:23

I reckon there's a lot of gin involved.
And they teach them stuff as well. It's insane.

HarrietDVane · 07/07/2021 22:27

Yep, I'd take the massive blow-up over the relentless annoyance too.

I still don't know how you secondary types cope with giant scary teenagers.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/07/2021 22:31

I've got one of my relentless annoyances next year again. AAAAGH. But I need to get him an EHCP flippin' urgently, there is no time to waste with another teacher getting to grips with him. Just needs 3 hours a day 1-1. The end.

MrsHamlet · 07/07/2021 22:32

I treat them like tall, hairy 5 year olds.
And treat myself with gin.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/07/2021 22:38

Having had months and months with no sugar, I've turned into a wasp over the last week. Decided to go gentle with myself!

My Head this morning, from nowhere just said "Oh for fucks sake, the last 2 years have just been awful... " She's on a lot of gin.

Fireworks going off here - have we won the football? Or have I got Danish neighbours?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/07/2021 22:38

Ah...

Primary school kids are going to be a write off tomorrow. Just in case anyone has grand plans...

DanglingMod · 07/07/2021 22:42

They're all going to be proper bonkers...

JanFebAnyMonth · 07/07/2021 22:43

We won2:1, just watched last 10 mins. Why are they singing Sweet Caroline now?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/07/2021 22:46

To be honest, I've only got 3 English kids in my class. Not sure it'll be all that exciting for the others.

Sad We've only a few days left with anyone in and still half a production to put together! Sad
Iamnotthe1 · 07/07/2021 22:48

Everyone, not anyone*

Wishful thinking there perhaps!

echt · 07/07/2021 22:52

@noblegiraffe

How can you have a part time teacher teach 3 days and not have split classes? Our KS4 classes, for example, have maths 4 days a week, so you couldn't have a part time teacher on 3 full days teach KS4 without a split.
In Victoria, exam classes only run for the last two years, 11 and 12. In my school they also run over three days, so it's possible to teach an exam class, with no splits. What it does mean is that the part-timer won't know their non-working days in advance, and they're unlikely to get any specific days off. Because I bargained only for the Monday, nothing else, I got what wanted. I would have taught an exam class if required, but it's not on my list, as I've taught exams for 40+ years: someone else's job now. :o

I am the timetabler's dream, a part-timer with very limited requirements. Smile

Sorry, my year 2 ds was out to bed only 20 minutes ago. I do pity the poor primary school teachers tomorrow.

HarrietDVane · 07/07/2021 23:03

My class are predominantly football-mad boys. There is zero chance of getting anything out of them tomorrow.

Hercisback · 07/07/2021 23:11

Year 9 boys are going to be off the scale tomorrow.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/07/2021 23:13

I'm not in to football at all. I took child to the skate park at 8pm because we knew it would be quiet. Then I worked until the fireworks.

I really like watching the aftermath chat about a win though, and even if some of the fans are eejits a lot of the time, I like seeing them leaping about. I showed my class Rio and Gary jumping around afyter the Germany match second goal... almost no emotion from the kids at all!

I don't however like seeing Priti Patel pretending to shout and give a shit. I just tweeted her some stuff that will probably get me a Twitter time out.

CallmeHendricks · 07/07/2021 23:15

Well, I will be spending the first session replacing and returning stationery/books/belongings that were hurled around the room today. They can surely do that whilst half asleep?
Then I will need to work out how to revise converting analogue to digital time. I suppose I could start with what time they each went to bed.

My football mad class definitely will be! Kinda glad my Bob isn't in this week as he would be hyper and likely to not want to do any work.

Rule Have to agree, I'd rather have a big blow up than constant annoyance as normally once that's happened that's it.
