You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

So what will you be eating on the Enemies of Education tour, noble.

I know it’s not the MN thing to consider everyone’s catering needs, but we need to make sure that everyone’s provided for.

MsAwesomeDragon · 04/07/2021 22:31

I think I'll be sitting at noble's end of the table. Although I do like cheese, any and all cheese, with fruit in it too please. But no pate or gin thanks.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 22:42

I can say I don't like lots of stuff knowing that no matter how bad I am, piggy is still the fussy eater of the group Grin

I like eating stuff that is on the menu of a normal nice pub. I don't like eating stuff that is on the menu of somewhere fancy. Chicken and ham pie: yes. Spinach and goat's cheese roulade: No. Cheese and ham toastie: yes. Brie and cranberry toastie: no. Doritos and dip: yes. Caviar and crackers: no.

WhenSheWasBad · 04/07/2021 22:45

I know we've moved off food, but how do people feel about pate

Love pate. But I also love stinky cheese and marmite. My entire household are very unadventurous when it comes to food, it’s so annoying.

Can’t believe a teacher was “spoken to about having a boyfriend stay over” that’s appalling.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 22:46

Other end of the table from WhenShe too then!

Was that the David Baddiel Tries to Learn/Wants To Understand tour? I listened to some of that and it was quite interesting at times.

How was that allowed Piggy? I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/07/2021 22:47

Piggy’s easily catered for. We just need plenty of ice.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 22:48

She can have my ice, I hate ice in drinks...

MsAwesomeDragon · 04/07/2021 22:55

I'm one of the most adventurous about food in my family, but most people would still call me fussy. I eat most meats, most vegetables, etc, but I don't like fancy stuff and I don't like gravy (most other sauces are fine but gravy makes me heave). I'd rather have ordinary pub grub than a posh dinner.
Both my children are incredibly fussy eaters, with dd1 liking things to remain separate on her plate, and dd2 being a vegetarian who doesn't eat many vegetables Hmm. And yet, neither of them are as fussy as my brother, who will only go out if he can guarantee that he can have a full plate of just chips (no seasoning or garnish or he won't eat it). He's always well prepared with his own food if he visits anyone, because he knows he's a pita to feed and doesn't want to put anyone to any trouble.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/07/2021 23:06

Love pate. Taught myself to like marmite in pregnancy.

I’m really sorry, but I can’t imagine you having a mum, noble! What we’re you like as a child?

DreamingofBrie · 04/07/2021 23:10

It was "Trolls - Not the Dolls", which we saw just before the first lockdown. I've liked David Baddiel since his Mary Whitehouse experience days in the 90s. I think it's the third of a series. The second was "My Family - Not the Sitcom", which I found really poignant - talking with a lot of vulgar affection for his mum, who'd recently passed away.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 23:19

Can't imagine me having a mum? Confused Like I was sculpted from clay and had life breathed into me by Zeus?

As a child I was....meek. Very, very meek. Still am, obvs.

Appuskidu · 04/07/2021 23:20

I loved the Mary Whitehouse experience! I think I preferred Rob Newman to any of the others though. History Today was genius.

noblegiraffe · 04/07/2021 23:24

Appu even today if someone says 'see that ...kid over there' I have to reply with 'I am aware of them, yes'.

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/07/2021 23:27

Erm I’m late to the party but I’m Maths and I feel we’ve been done a disservice. My department snd awesome and we have had many a night out and our dept is somewhat legendary in our school. Everyone want me to join our adventures out! Tbf I think we maybe the exception rather than the rule… but we have a whole board filled with photos of our nights out in our little maths staff room. CANNOT wait until we’re allowed back in there again!

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/07/2021 23:28

Your maths team must be full of PE teachers who ended up teaching maths, MrsHP, it's the only explanation Grin

Go and see Rob now if you can. By which I mean, whenever touring starts again. He does a lovely live show of stories.

I know someone who lost her virginity to him on her 16th birthday though, which while all very 'ooooh' at the time, was probably a bit wrong.

Beachhuts90 · 04/07/2021 23:58

Also find it weird that they have done away with skills tests
There are far far too many people on the trainee teacher hopeful FB groups moaning about having to study for the (very easy) maths assessment attached to most interviews. It's slowed down a bit now as some places have closed recruitment but it's a bit cringe.

JanFebAnyMonth · 05/07/2021 00:31

noble I’m sorry it’s just that you’re so grown up, I think. Or something like that. Not meek though.....

😂 we have no non-specialists teaching our subject!
MrsHamlet · 05/07/2021 06:44

Like pate as long as it's not lumpy.
Don't like marmite.
Like twiglets.

motherrunner · 05/07/2021 06:46

Morning all,

Off topic but want some advice on something that’s been troubling me for a while. At my school we have a number of transitioning and gender neutral pupils. We call them by their adoptive name and preferred pronouns - no issue with that btw. What concerns me is that parents are not informed. A few are but not all so on reports etc we still have to address them n given name and birth pronouns. These pupils are living one identity at school and then another at home. As a parent I would want to know so I could support my child. I feel complicit in this double life but don’t know how to raise any concerns. Our safeguarding team have okayed all this.
