You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

It just seems to me that everything today has been weasel words. Certain factions on MN and Twitter think they said scrapping isolation but they didn't they said scrapping bubbles.

Interesting that Labour have unearthed that 80% of children are no longer home testing.

Appuskidu · 30/06/2021 16:45

If bubbles are scrapped, does that mean we are back to whole school assemblies etc!?

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2021 16:50

I mean our bubbles are whole year groups anyway : we can't do whole school assemblies. But, yes, I guess so.

Interesting also that they have linked so many cases back to Scottish fans travelling to Wembley.

JanFebAnyMonth · 30/06/2021 16:51

Yeah I wondered about that figure Labour are quoting. May be based on the figs I saw a few days ago somewhere, saying LFT testing is at a quarter of what it was in March? (OK 20% = 25%, but hey ho)

Yes it would appu, unless an individual school chose not to revert I suppose.

Thank heavens for that editorial, it’s the only sensible voice in the MSM!

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2021 17:08

Gav literally started a sentence

' We are very clear that we sort of errrr...'

CarrieBlue · 30/06/2021 17:11

It feels like we’re on the precipice of chucking away all the vaccine advantage. We’re going to get mutations, we’re going to get (even) huger numbers of long covid sufferers, the most vulnerable for whom the vaccine work least well are back to being at risk. All for want of wearing face masks for a bit longer, and not crowding in to the pub.

DHs school has just sent an entire year group home (on PHE orders) because one of the kids had a house party for half the year group at the weekend, fully sanctioned by parents. It really beggars belief how bloody selfish people can be.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2021 17:14

It does beggar belief, until you see the boards out there, where people are so done with it. But then I don't have house parties for my kids in normal times, so may not be an expert on these sentiments...

motherrunner · 30/06/2021 17:16

“So done with it” has to be the most annoying phrase of the year.

Hercisback · 30/06/2021 17:19

I have huge amounts of sympathy for people who are done with it to be honest. I can totally see why. After repeated isolations and WFH it is hard. BUT the so do w with it crowd don't link their behaviour to the repeated isolations. That is the problem.

MsAwesomeDragon · 30/06/2021 17:34

I'm done with it too tbh. My year 10 class have had more positives amongst the ones who were isolating, but because they weren't sent home to isolate til break on Monday they've taken out anyone they say next to in periods 1 and 2. So I now only have 4 kids in my classroom and 20+ kids at home doing nothing (I'm sending them work, they just aren't doing it)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/06/2021 17:36

It’s like the thing with the testing = more cases and not isolating because it’s disruptive herc. Yes initially you get more cases, and you might have to isolate unnecessarily once or twice early on but in the long term, catching as many cases as possible and tracing & isolating as many contacts as possible means less covid, which means fewer isolations and fewer restrictions.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/06/2021 17:44

Should add, I’m absolutely done with it too.

CarrieBlue · 30/06/2021 17:50

I’m totally sick of it but I understand that there’s more than just me in this and that being cautious and responsible means there’ll be less of the stuff I’m sick of. It’s all going to slip through our fingers, that’s my biggest fear. I’m also totally furious at people who are fully vaccinated and still working from home daring to moan that there are any restrictions at all and that they can’t go on their foreign holidays. I could rage for a very long time over that.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/06/2021 17:57

We're all done with it but it doesn't make it magically go away sadly. I'm done with it and want to get to Egypt. Especially given ds is just generally dicking around and messing up his education at the minute so I'm losing a sense of 'point' to even being here.

Thanks for the C&P Carrie. A surprisingly rational article Confused

JanFebAnyMonth · 30/06/2021 18:16

Cristina Pagel on R4 saying why on earth are we not planning child vaccination. In order to get to herd immunity we need 7 million children to get infected, that will produce 0.5 million long Covid cases and 7 million opportunities for virus mutation into something which evades the vaccines. And that we’re not even using masks, ventilation etc.

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2021 18:22

why on earth are we not planning child vaccination

When some guy from the Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisations is retweeting Us4Them, one has an inkling why.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2021 18:26

Who's doing that??

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2021 18:30

Robert Dingwall.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2021 18:31

Well, I think we all know that this shit about bubbles and isolation is to distract from any arguments about child vaccinations.

CarrieBlue · 30/06/2021 18:37

I could not care less if some U4T numpty doesn’t want their child vaccinated, I can’t get my head round why they think they have any right at all to dictate that my child should not be vaccinated. It’s nothing to do with anyone else if I take the decision that my child should be vaccinated (other than my child’s wishes). No one is suggesting that dear little Tarquin is forcibly vaccinated.

Piggywaspushed · 30/06/2021 18:37

Oh I am reading his Twitter thread now. Interesting to see the people who leap on him as soem Great White Saviour. Lots of them are libertarians. Does that make him feel comfortable?? Most who argue against him are scientists/ statisticians.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 30/06/2021 18:53

Imagine... 2045... yeah Freddy, we intentionally let the government give you a novel virus with little knowledge of long term impact.

Meanwhile, testing question. My parents had my isolating child on the evening of her close contact, and during the next 48 hours. If we tested her yesterday, 5 days after close contact, and it's negative, are my parents in the clear?

I'm absolutely done in today, just can't think.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/06/2021 19:05

I suspect but they worry that it would lead to a 'two-tier' system under which Tarquin will be disadvantaged. If some people have their children vaccinated then some people might suggest on different processes for vaccinated and unvaccinated children eg. when there is a positive case in school or when darling T is a known contact of a positive case.

They don't want Tarquin vaccinated, isolated, tested, 'muzzled' or in any way bothered at all and they don't want their to be any consequences for that choice.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/06/2021 19:07

Not sure where that but came from.

Not sure Rule I'd like to say yes but tests aren't 100% accurate. She should have had enough incubation time and not enough time for it to be out of her system I think so the only issue is how accurate you think the tests are.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 30/06/2021 19:08

Parents - sick of your pesky self isolating secondary children getting under your feet at home? Why don't you send them to collect their primary siblings from school? Saves you a job and you get half an hour's peace.

Fuck this shit!
