You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

I got no common sense. DH answered all the Tory answers for a laugh and got invited to join their WhatsApp group..

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 21:38

It's so scary. Funny because we are cynical and savvy. But their target is young people interested in 'activism',. I am suddenly grateful for my sociology class who got activism and activity mixed up.

MrsHamlet · 28/06/2021 21:50

Mormons are relentless.

borntobequiet · 28/06/2021 21:54

@noblegiraffe

That Turning Point quiz is dreadful, they should never have taken identifying bias in questionnaires off the GCSE syllabus.
Well and don’t you wonder why it might have disappeared?
DreamingofBrie · 28/06/2021 22:01

Hilarious. Might try it out with my 6th formers this week.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 22:03

I have 50% common sense apparently. If there'd been any 'it depends' or 'where's the common sense non polarised view' options my score would be rather different.

They congratulated me and invited me to watch more videos. Questions like do you think all inequality is caused by discrimination - there was no, 'not all but clearly a fair chunk of it' or, 'no but our economic system clearly creates a fair amount of it'. So I couldn't say yes I think ALL inequality is caused by discrimination therefore I'm a tory????

Agreed - worst survey ever. Makes Myers-Briggs look scientific.

So bored of polarised, over simplified crap in our politics now.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 22:04

The most hilarious question was 'Churchill was a' a hero b) a villain

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 22:05

Bring back nuance!!

Goodness knows what Autumn will look like. Even if vaccinated teachers are safe from severe infection in the main they can still catch it, albeit mildly, they'll still need to isolate. Or are they going to say teachers can work through covid too?

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 22:06

I know Piggy! Where was the, I don't know, never studied him option?? Or well in some ways a) in other ways b)?

So skewered.

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/06/2021 22:07

I'm apparently a Tory too honey, because like you I was looking for nuance and more than just yes/no answers. It was a truly awful quiz.

Mormons tried to convert me once, while I was crying in a park in Brisbane. They chatted to me for a while, then realized I had just discovered I was pregnant, split up with my boyfriend and lost my job, all in the space of one weekend. Suddenly they didn't think I was worth converting any more Sad

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 22:09

I spend my professional life encouraging children to move away from over simplistic views like villain or hero and deliberately teaching them to be able to say, in some ways x could be seen as a hero because...... however in other ways/by other groups he could be seen as a villain for example.... this meant that.... etc.

We did an essay on Cromwell directly along those lines quite recently with year 7. If they hadn't looked at it from both sides they'd have failed. What is wrong with these people that encourage less nuanced thinking from adults than we do from low ability 11 year olds?

Hercisback · 28/06/2021 22:10

Russell Kane could sort that one out in an episode of Evil Genius.

DH also got offered introductions to "significant Conservatives" via zoom. Bonkers.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 22:11

Oh MsAD - we're doomed to hell AND tories???

cantkeepawayforever · 28/06/2021 22:12

I presume unless our symptoms are such that we cannot manage to work, we will be expected to work through Covid. A bit like the 'struggle in unless actively vomiting or hallucinating' has been normal practice for years....
noblegiraffe · 28/06/2021 22:15

I want to be introduced to significant conservatives.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 22:16

I can set you up with Lehain??

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/06/2021 22:16

So, 3 of your answers displayed some common sense, but it looks like the rest didn't...

Ha.

noblegiraffe · 28/06/2021 22:18

Oh crikey, piggy, I’d hate to make Herc jealous.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 22:18

Russell Kane could sort that one out in an episode of Evil Genius.

Or maybe Harry Hill.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 22:19

I am actually annoyed I showed common sense once as I was trying entirely to wind them up to see what happened.

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/06/2021 22:20

@TheHoneyBadger

Oh MsAD - we're doomed to hell AND tories???
I feel much better about my eternal damnation now I know you'll be there to keep me company. With your Tory tendencies.
MsAwesomeDragon · 28/06/2021 22:22

@noblegiraffe

I want to be introduced to significant conservatives.
Are you planning on killing them? That's the only reason I'd ever want to be introduced to significant conservatives. Or perhaps some light torture, except they'd probably like that.
JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 23:01

@noblegiraffe

I want to be introduced to significant conservatives.
That’s something I’d pay to see Grin
TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 23:34

Ah MrsAD it will be very confusing. Not conservative enough for the Mormons with our out of wedlock child bearing yet conservative enough to be labelled tories. Hopefully we'll find the secret gin stash and hide from the right wing American fundamentalist Christians.

I'm finally having the energy to catch up on the Cummings testimony. I'm now strangely confused about how I feel about Cummings too. Maybe the sorting system does have nuance and we'll get purgatory instead. The committee is all ah but you're the most powerful person why didn't you sort it out but I can well see how when you're up against a wall of scientists and data and graphs and specialists saying ah it's all grand let them all catch it and we'll be fine by September it would be seriously fucking difficult to trust your own understanding and come out and say no, that's rubbish and we need to act now.

Dear Lord. I'm feeling sympathy for Cummings! What on earth is happening?

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 23:36

One of the committee was claiming he was the most powerful person in no.10 - that's a fucking huge responsibility to put on an unelected, non scientist whose having to go against a massive consensus of it's all fine and the actual people in charge going off on skiing holidays.

I'm beginning to think the levels of public opinion manipulation go many layers deeper than we've penetrated.
