You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

I agree that the isolations can be very disruptive. What happens though if there’s no isolation, no masks, no ventilation and parents refuse to test?

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 20:53

piggy, they won’t need to police them if they’re onsite?

Parents United have heard that all children are going to be infected. Meltdown.

Which I have some sympathy with. Long Covid. CEV. Immunosuppressed parents. MIS.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 20:54

And I think the press and various social media sources have really propagated the idea that LFTs are shit.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 20:55

But we can't keep testing them onsite ad nauseam. It's so disruptive !
And what about contacts outside of school - social contact/family?

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 20:55

Hmm do we think it’s be Daily LFTs to replace isolation PLUS twice weekly LFTs for everyone, or will they scrap the latter?

And this is all supposing there’s no new variant. Which is unlikely, esp if it’s let rip through schools.

noblegiraffe · 28/06/2021 20:55

The government just don’t have the balls to say ‘we don’t care if kids get it’ so they’ll roll out some crappy measures to make it look like they are trying and schools and teachers will get it in the neck when it’s shit/not adhered to/doesn’t make any sense.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 20:56

At the same time the DfE has extended the legal obligation to teach remotely til March 2022.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 20:56

Schools are going to need someone full time on testing (possibly) and then there’s the space.

Hercisback · 28/06/2021 20:57

What happens though if there’s no isolation, no masks, no ventilation and parents refuse to test?

No idea. The children all get it? Vaxed adults are generally OK? I really don't know.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 20:57

Oo yes and I mean to say, Welsh govt have said they’ll let schools decide their own measures come September!

Who’d be a Head at the moment??

Appuskidu · 28/06/2021 20:59

No, me neither. If they’re going to stop isolation for classes in primary-there will be nothing then. I can’t see them introducing testing there.
noblegiraffe · 28/06/2021 20:59

Unless the kids are vaccinated.

‘We are going to remove restrictions in schools and not going to vaccinate kids’ is essentially saying they’re going to get it.

Which is a position they’ll have to defend after opening those 15 long covid in kids clinics.

www.theguardian.com/education/2021/jun/26/i-had-threats-to-my-life-how-mob-attacks-on-social-media-are-silencing-uk-teachers

And Spielman , Badenoch , Gibbs, Gav all pave the way for this.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 28/06/2021 21:03

Vaccination will not stop you from getting it. Hopefully it will reduce the impact.

I hate remote teaching. And we still have to be given details to whatever changes will be made to next years Yr11 & Yr 13 exams.

More shit coming our way ( I have to be so predictable but .....)

I hate this. At our school if a kid is isolating at home we have to make our lesson live for them to join. Even if the lesson doesn’t remotely lend itself to online learning.

We are still wearing masks. Then you have a headset on top of that so it’s really claustrophobic.
We are still moving rooms, so every lesson you are already on the backfoot. This just just adds to the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Plus the tech fails all the time even when you are just using a PowerPoint. Add in a live teams call and you have pretty much guaranteed a crash during your lesson.

Hate the live teaching / class teaching hybrid.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 21:08

Crikey those clinics almost seem like future planning. Horrible thought - and v likely wrong because Boris isn’t famed for that sort of forward thinking is he

Hercisback · 28/06/2021 21:08

Vaccinating kids seems like the next logical step, particularly teens.

Gov have pretty much said kids are all going to get it, and their policy is bearing this idea out.

Remote teaching is awful. Gcse changes need to be announced ASAP. (I predict March 2022).

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 21:12

hahhahahhaha.Hilarious!

noblegiraffe · 28/06/2021 21:17

That Turning Point quiz is dreadful, they should never have taken identifying bias in questionnaires off the GCSE syllabus.

Hercisback · 28/06/2021 21:23

I'm going to use that quiz with my stats group. It's so bad it's hilarious.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 21:24

Did you do it and get told you lack common sense so watch our videos?? It's veeeeery weird.

If they are on Twitter (and I saw them go for the woman in the Guardian article) they are probably on here too.

And, yet, teachers being a bit 'woke' is the problem??

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 21:24

It reminds me when I went to a Mormon tabernacle and they made DSis and me watch videos before we could leave.

noblegiraffe · 28/06/2021 21:30

So you’re a Mormon now, piggy?

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 21:33

I affected a cunning escape. Eventually.
