You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

I love the way schools are just spoken about now as hotbed of transmission. Do they not hear their own hypocrisy???

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 18:01

Pissing myself, excuse the pun, at adding pelvic floor exercises to the curriculum. What else? I'm sure there's a spare 30 seconds on the curriculum somewhere - prostrate exams?

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 18:03

Shock honey!

I like the sound of prostrate exams. A few if my year 10 class attempted that today. Grin

Piggy re the Pfizer vaccine. My understanding is that the CDC and authorities in the US are keeping an eye on it but not acting because so far the rate of myocarditis from it looks to be less than the rate that children were getting it from covid. I have a feeling that the severity of the myocarditis was worse with Covid but than the vaccine but that bit I’m not sure on. Not that that leaves you in a better position.

Incidentally when I brought up covid/teens and myocarditis last year I was told lots of things cause it even flu and it wasn’t important. I wonder what the overlap is between those posters and the ones who now might not vaccinate because of it.!

HSHorror · 28/06/2021 18:05

They are obviously relying on school hol to bring it back down.
When do private schools and unis break up

motherrunner · 28/06/2021 18:07

Tbf, pelvic floor exercises might be a good idea. Yr 7 can’t seem to go 10 minutes without needing a wee.

What will happen in the Autumn? Not sure I can face a repeat of last Autumn.

Schoolsweek says 'welcome back on site mass testing....'

This pisses me off so much piggy

schoolsweek.co.uk/dfe-tells-schools-to-prepare-for-return-of-on-site-covid-testing-in-september/

I wonder if that’s because isolation of contacts will end though?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/06/2021 18:29

When do private schools and unis break up

End of this week. Half of private school kids will immediately fly to Bermuda, or wherever it is that's just gone onto the green list.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 18:33

That's what I suspect Jan.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 18:33

But if we are back to 'normal', how can they justify mass testing in schools??

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/06/2021 18:37

‘The rules’ around isolating school bubbles are clearly starting to get to some people

Mostly me. I get the rules, I don't get the testing. Well, I understand that there needs to be a test (even if only for some schools in some areas), but it doesn't stop me being a risk.

Child a close contact on Thursday.
Goes to grandparents Thursday night.
She has lovely day visiting loads of relatives on Friday.
We get email 10pm Friday night.
Collect child Saturday morning.
Order test on Sunday after PCR confirmation email.
Confirmation email says test child asap with a PCR.
PCR has arrived, we'll do it later.
Letter also says we are to do LFT twice this week.
Presumably my parents should as well.

But that still means that if she's negative today, she could be positive tomorrow, and we don't test until Wednesday, which won't pick anything up at that point, then we don't test again until Sunday night. By which point child is going back to school, and we've spent possibly 3 days spreading ourselves around London (partner) and school (me). I could send home 56 kids and 2 adults.

I just don't think that makes any sense. But there we go. Alternatives aren't great either.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 18:43

I dare you to ask that question in the Data thread piggy!

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 18:44

Yes, but what you do get rule is that it's not the school's fault or doing! And I don't think you are off to book an ad hoc caravanning holiday. to take advantage of the time off... Shock
My DS had just been swimming before his Email of Doom!

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 18:44

Yes given that we were shouted down when talking about the Covid-repellant magic walls didn’t exist - tossers

This is going to be a shit week isn’t it?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/06/2021 19:06

Schools are going down like flies. People are going to start pulling kids out to avoid losing any of the school holidays I reckon.

I don't have any time off :(

I already know of several people intending on doing this as they are going away the first week of the holidays.
