You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Pop! Year 8 went today.

We only have 7 and 10 left (12 are on study leave). It's like a ghost town.

I've got induction at my new school tomorrow. Followed by year 7 parents evening (ugh) via teams (oh shoot just realised I need to send invites for that!)

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 16:52

I had that thought Born - like maybe that was the number they were handed and that was what they printed unquestioningly as they're not confident with Maths themselves. 1 in 1250 or 0.08% of positives is tangible to most people. Randomly mentioning ratio in the sentence before then sticking in 0.08 of cases in the next sentence just isn't clear.

Don't many publishers try to use language fitting to someone with a reading age of 10 or some such? You'd think they might apply the same approach to data and stats.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/06/2021 16:54

Can't believe the difference between schools numbers! Literally not had to have anyone isolate due to an in school case since we went back in March

Frlrlrubert · 28/06/2021 17:03

I think whoever advises us is being more cautious now. There is only one case in year 8. In Autumn we'd have used seating plans to just send home 'close contacts' but this time they've said to just send them all home. Possibly because year 9 are already out? Or they've realised its airborne? Or that they all mix at break? I dunno.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 17:07

Oh, Javid has clearly been sent out to create a change in tone. Back to the Tory playbook.

GuyFawkesDay · 28/06/2021 17:08

Right you clever lot.....help me argue with the new behaviour lead who wants us to go "full Dix".....

Mistressiggi · 28/06/2021 17:13

Suggest some fact finding visits to schools that have been dixified. Engage in evaluation with staff there

Something else to add into our school day!

motherrunner · 28/06/2021 17:14

Oh and Yr 12 were sent home today.

MrsHamlet · 28/06/2021 17:14

Fuck sake

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 17:15

I can imagine us in PE lessons insisting all the girls do pelvic floors and just sitting serenely for 10 minutes. Could be quite restful if no boys are about...

RigaBalsam · 28/06/2021 17:21

Another year gone today too. Down to two years left.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 28/06/2021 17:23

See.. it's going to be November again. Already is November again.

Weather feels like November too.

borntobequiet · 28/06/2021 17:27

The more that girls know about their reproductive anatomy in these confusing times when biological sex seems to have been abandoned in favour of gender the better, IMO.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 28/06/2021 17:31
I will add it the list every growing list. Maybe something to do in afternoon registration.

Am trying to sit on my hands so I don’t post on any other threads tonight, I think. ‘The rules’ around isolating school bubbles are clearly starting to get to some people Confused.

I have all my kids at home this week!

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 17:32

Well it's the unions fault you see appu!

HSHorror · 28/06/2021 17:32

Im pretty sure they paused the AZ childrens trial.
So only moderna or pfiizer.

Im surprised there arent more than 100k kids who didnt go back to school as its so unsafe

As far as I’m aware public health know which contacts of cases end up testing positive. My guess is they are seeing something about the spread in delta which is making them more cautious. Even if nobody else will admit it.
Appuskidu · 28/06/2021 17:38

@Piggywaspushed

Well it's the unions fault you see appu!
Well, quite!

I think there are a swathe of people who want all kids at school without masks and running sports days, open days, clubs, shows, transition days and assemblies completely as normal-with all maskless parents to attend. Then no testing at all in schools as it tends to result in those pesky positives!

They’d probably still like to be WFH though-many people like that bit of covid.

Hercisback · 28/06/2021 17:43

We've also gone back to whole bubble closure at ks3 when it was previously close contacts only. Definitely a more cautious approach than before.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2021 17:47

Yeah but then were FUMING when a school event in a posh Edinburgh school led to a whole load of cases!! I think they are pulled up when they see cases are actually real.

WhenSheWasBad · 28/06/2021 17:48

Just looked at the Covid figures 22,000 Shock

I just feel impending doom. So sorry you have all had bubbles pop.

JanFebAnyMonth · 28/06/2021 17:54

Scotland has its highest number of daily cases ever!

Javid obviously going for 19th July. I did just hear Prof Paul Hunter saying we have to do it at some point and better in summer than winter, which I think is the one sensible argument. And that schools will be closing then so that will help with transmission! He also said that this will ‘peter out’ (the interviewer’s phrase) once all children have been exposed and all adults backed. Remaining infections should be just like the old coronaviruses, ie a cold. Didn’t mention Long Covid.....

Yes Appu Viner (the Fail article) is one of the worst lot, Barrington Declaration etc.

Boys have pelvic floors too although they tend to stay stronger for longer!
