You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

“You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life!”

WhenSheWasBad · 21/06/2021 18:56

I’ll listen to whatever.

Is the cake chocolate? I feel the need for chocolate today.

chocolateisavegetable · 21/06/2021 18:58

Did someone mention my name?

MrsHamlet · 21/06/2021 19:10

There's all the types of cake because the staffroom is at the top of the faraway tree and it's in cake and snack land today

TheHoneyBadger · 21/06/2021 19:13

Yay. Can we have Moonface's pop cakes please?

Piggywaspushed · 21/06/2021 19:16

I don't like chocolate cake. I have brought my own lemon drizzle.

Break up on 21st, back for inset on 1st. Another 4 weeks - I don't think the kids are going to make it. I mean, I'm knackered, but they are rude, badly behaved, knackered and generally not very pleasant as a collective. 4 weeks 2 days is a really long time when everyone is so fed up. This is worse than any other year I can remember.

I've also realised how stupid the job is. I have one weekend (and therefore 3 evenings) where I can't work at all, which meant I was in for working every evening until 11pm, now this week is going to be the same. I didn't work over my half term holiday (well, I worked all day on the last Sunday, but not during the week).

This job is impossible during the official working hours. Or even without working time directive hours. And because I'm tired and had a nice weekend, I'm furious about that.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 21/06/2021 19:18

I have bought all the cheese as a savoury option. Happy birthday!

MrsHamlet · 21/06/2021 19:23

We've got to PCR test all the students this week. YAY.

JanFebAnyMonth · 21/06/2021 19:27

Have you got a MTU like piggy, MrsH?

eitak22 · 21/06/2021 19:34

Rule Its ridiculous how much is expected of staff to be good will and even if it's not expected you cannot do everything and yet if anything is dropped that's not good enough.

Frlrlrubert · 21/06/2021 19:38

We've got reports for years 7,8,9,10+12 to write by the 12th. We can't start until the comment banks go live, which they haven't yet (we were supposed to start 2 weeks ago).

We start mocks for year 10 and assessments for year 9 on Monday. 3 papers each for science. Need marking ASAP so we can do group changes.

Year 7 parents evening next Tuesday, plus emails/calls to the parents who can't get a slot (I have 25 slots for 53 parents).

Most of our 'gained time' is being used for cover.

We're planning modules for next year in line with the academy we're joining.

Oh, and I got told today to sack off what I've planned for year 7 for the last few weeks and catch up on practicals they've missed, which means I need to replan 3 classes from next week.

Something has to give.

Rosegoldfan · 21/06/2021 19:40

(Name changed)There was a stabbing in my area today, school aged kids ,took police and helicopter a few hours to find him. Victim is in hospital. Schools in the area got put in lockdown and parents had to collect them.

Just awful.

On another note our staggered starts actually add nearly an hour to the school day.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 21/06/2021 19:45

Dropping in to say happy birthday to MrsH and Hendricks, scoffing some zero calorie cake and then going to bed. I'd forgotten how much of the first trimester is spent either eating or sleeping...

MrsHamlet · 21/06/2021 19:46

I've just had an email from teacher Tapp asking why I've abandoned them. I've said I think it's unreliable because you can't comment on the choices.
No MTU for us. We're supervising the kids in our lessons!

thecatfromjapan · 21/06/2021 19:58

Rosegoldfan That's horrible and upsetting. Hope you have a lovely, calming evening. 💐

Thank you
WhenSheWasBad · 21/06/2021 20:06

rose that’s awful. Hope you somehow manage to have a relaxing evening after that.

frlfrl god that’s a lot on. I don’t think people realise the planning that’s required when people tell you to suddenly change your lessons.
Good luck with it all (and thanks for reminding me to do my reports this week).

noblegiraffe · 21/06/2021 20:08

God Rose that's horrific. Poor kid, why did it take so long to find him?

noblegiraffe · 21/06/2021 20:09

My school doesn't do written reports

Not sure I think he ran off to hide in the trees.
MrsHamlet · 21/06/2021 20:13

So sorry to hear that Rose - how awful!

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/06/2021 20:22

Sorry Rose that’s awful, hope you are ok.

No written reports here either…

motherrunner · 21/06/2021 20:22

Just got in from a freezing cold and wet hour and half watching DD play her first football match. They won 8-5. She’s still buzzing.

Rose that’s awful. So sorry to hear that.

Us too MrsH. The head has a plan. He hasn't currently shared the plan with us, but he assures us he has one.
