You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Bloody hay fever + asthma...

This testing lark is a bit of a faff now. Last time a man on a motorbike just turned up, did the swab on the front door step and drive off again.

Had heard a rumour that no longer applied to pre-op patients who don’t have access to transport, but hadn’t realised it applied to staff too.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/06/2021 13:57

So what do you have to do now Rafa?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/06/2021 14:08

Book a test through the normal system. Technically we aren't supposed to do that, but I don't have much of an option. HR told me to get a home testing kit, but it turns out there's a walk in testing centre 1.5 miles away so I've booked a test there.

Stupidly, I could have tested for the non-core hayfever symptoms at work yesterday and I'd probably have a result by now. I reckon they might have accepted that.

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/06/2021 14:47

MN hasn't been working for me all morning!! So I've missed all the bog roll talk.

Dd2 started coughing overnight, so we've had a family trip to the covid test centre. Most of her friends also have a cold with a cough, which they have tested negative with, so hopefully ours will come back negative as well. I've ordered a big good delivery to arrive tomorrow morning just in case. I normally do a food shop on Saturday so we're running low on quite a lot of things and tonight's dinner may well be "interesting".

TheHoneyBadger · 19/06/2021 15:10

I'm so mean frugal that all this talk of spending nearly a pound per toilet roll has made my eyes water.

I've had a bit of a lie in and been to the gym and just had a nice plate of halloumi, olives and garlic crackers. Can I have a gin now?

My basket is always held with 2 litres of gin. I had the coconut toilet paper once as a substitution.

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/06/2021 15:27

I'm so mean frugal that all this talk of spending nearly a pound per toilet roll has made my eyes water. Me too. I buy the biggest pack of own brand loo roll when it's on offer. I never pay more than about 25p per roll.

Timeturnerplease · 19/06/2021 15:47

that would be the worry with scented bum roll wouldn’t it? That you’d be sat in a staff meeting and someone would say ‘why does it smell of Malibu in here

Being pregnant and having been through IVF in the months before falling pregnant, I am obviously gagging for a drink. I actually dream about it sometimes

However, Malibu is my drink of choice and I now am not sure that I’ll be able to drink it without thinking about loo roll/bum cracks 😂

DreamingofBrie · 19/06/2021 15:53

I would not be happy with that substitution!

Going to see Cruella with dd tonight, we're going to the food court at the local market for an early dinner. I feel as if I'm just grabbing these social opportunities whilst we can, as no idea how long we'll be able to.

2 and a half weeks to go here. Year 12 return for teaching next week. Counting down the lessons now!

TheHoneyBadger · 19/06/2021 15:55

Not as a substitution for gin! Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/06/2021 16:48

Can we just stop discussing my loo roll / bum (one of my most hated words, but that’s neither here nor there...) / scent....

Hope you get a negative DC too MrsAD.

I’ve decided I don’t really like any of the food in the cupboard. It’s a pity I drank all the wine last night.
Mistressiggi · 19/06/2021 18:02

I am experiencing the famous-on-mumsnet javelin arse just now and wondering if a gentle roll of coconut bog roll would take my mind off it.

MrsHamlet · 19/06/2021 18:10

I buy my bog roll in the cash and carry with my tonic water.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/06/2021 18:13

What is this “javelin arse”??

namechangedyetagain · 19/06/2021 18:17

Blimey been away for a few days trying to get my folder in and it's all gone bums and loo rolls Shock

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/06/2021 18:30

It’s a literal pain in the arse that feels like somebody’s just shoved a javelin up there Jan.

I think it’s official term is proctalgia fugax.

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 18:43

bum (one of my most hated words, but that’s neither here nor there...)

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 18:50

Is your folder now done, Name? 🥂

My mentee finished last week, think they were planning to spend this week asleep!

HarrietDVane · 19/06/2021 18:59

Good grief! I've missed a lot. Mainly bog roll related Grin

I've been to see my mum today. She's going into hospital on Tuesday for an op so it was good to see her beforehand. Not sure how long she'll be in for, or what visiting is allowed, but hoping it won't be for too long.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/06/2021 19:12

Anyone know how to cancel a covid test appointment?

Not having much luck with Google. Can’t see it on the e-Mail or text.

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 19:18

Think you just don’t turn up.

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/06/2021 19:20

Rafa I agree with noble that you just don't turn up. They don't want to make it easy to cancel because they think if you've got enough symptoms to book a test in the first place you shouldn't be cancelling.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/06/2021 19:21

That’s what I’m thinking. Just thought they might wonder if I ticked I have have symptoms and then didn’t turn up and carried on as normal.

Then I just realised that seems unlikely.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/06/2021 19:23

Not that I’ve done that. I’ve managed to find someone to deliver a work one which should get there in time for the last run tonight.

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/06/2021 19:25

The test centre we went to this morning was very quiet, but I still don't think they'd have time to chase anyone who didn't turn up. I'm more concerned that the test centre was as quiet as it was, when anyone aged 12-30 is being asked to get a test by just turning up. I'm not sure if that's been publicised widely enough yet.
