You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Oh Jan, what’s that lovely perfume you’re wearing? It smells kind of tropical… 🏝

Floobydo · 19/06/2021 10:11

@MrsHerculePoirot I also get WGAC.

However only the premium (bamboo) stuff - the recycled was a bit too…virtuous for us.

It is good & I love the subscription for the ease of not having to think about it but that said I’m not sure their environmental / ethical aspects are really as good as they claim. It’s all shipped from China for a start. I’m planning to switch to Boxroll which is U.K. manufactured & no separate wrapping for each roll once our current stock is running low.

Piggywaspushed · 19/06/2021 10:24

Which bit of Jan are you smelling noble ??! Shock Blush

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 10:27

Grin, that would be the worry with scented bum roll wouldn’t it? That you’d be sat in a staff meeting and someone would say ‘why does it smell of Malibu in here?’

motherrunner · 19/06/2021 10:27

Just checking in and everyone is sniffing each other?

Has end of term madness set in.

Had this email from our deputy. To fellow secondary teachers it really hammers home how much we have done and how much those bloody exam boards haven’t!

“As the clock reaches 4.20pm on the 18th June we have successfully uploaded all of the Teacher Assessed Grades for years 11 and 13. To do this as a staff we have marked approximately 5406 scripts and made 1809 grading decisions.

This has been a massive team effort from everyone in the school from the teachers that marked and determined grades or supported a colleague by covering or helping them whilst they did this, to the non-teaching staff who have photocopied scripts, supported students and undertaken data entry and checks.”

Piggywaspushed · 19/06/2021 10:29

Not so much as an acknowledgment of the teacher workload at my place!

It’s sobering isn’t it? Our school gave us a free cookie from the canteen to say thank you.

Don’t know whether to laugh or cry (but am thankful for the acknowledgment as I know we are broke as a school -they we’re lovely cookies)

Shame we couldn’t eat them together and instead in our own classrooms/offices/cupboards…

DreamingofBrie · 19/06/2021 10:31

@MrsHerculePoirot

Love it rule!

@DreamingofBrie I’ve been considering trying them but didn’t know anyone who used them! Might give it a go if you say they are ok!

They are ok! Very reliable so I never had the loo roll panic of 2020, as they prioritised subscriptions over new buyers. Price wise, probably not the cheapest but the packaging is all recyclable, which I like. Not your triple velvet, but perfectly fine in terms of thickness and comfort. You can also postpone shipments if you don't need them yet.

The recycled costs £36/48 rolls and the bamboo costs £40/48 rolls (actually, tempted to change my next shipment, it's so silky Grin).

They're an Australian company, so I'm not sure where the loo roll is made and shipped from, though.

motherrunner · 19/06/2021 10:31

The email is lovely - would have preferred chocolates or wine ... or the bloody exam boards’ fees!

DreamingofBrie · 19/06/2021 10:33

This is good to know - let me know how you find Boxroll?

MrsHamlet · 19/06/2021 10:36

We got a chocolate biscuit each.

motherrunner · 19/06/2021 10:39

Bourbon or digestive @MrsHamlet?
MrsHamlet · 19/06/2021 10:49

A knock off version of a penguin.

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 10:56

A seal bar?

This is one of my favourite Foil Arms and Hogg videos (they’re the ones who did the maths class via zoom skit at the start of the pandemic, I’ve been watching their stuff ever since)

motherrunner · 19/06/2021 11:02

I love an Aldi/Lidl ‘knock off’ - as long as I get the same gram for gram I don’t care!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/06/2021 11:21

I thought you’d been starting threads again noble, but it turns out someone else has done the job for you. I assume the thread about the DfE guidance is going as expected.

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 11:37

I was ahead of the curve with my school thread a couple of weeks ago…anyone starting a thread now about covid in schools is a mere pretender Grin

I bet there are some posters out there with a ‘pack it in Noble’ post ready typed before they clock it’s not me.

borntobequiet · 19/06/2021 11:52

“And instead of Hula Hoops we have - Hoops.”

Genius.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/06/2021 12:06

We use WGAC too. Might get the bamboo next time. The normal is fine and has the benefit they donate to building toilets in developing world too.

Fell asleep at 9pm again!

DreamingofBrie · 19/06/2021 12:14

On the back of this thread, I have just changed my next WGAC shipment to bamboo roll. Clearly I need to be getting on with my reports though!

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/06/2021 12:26

I’ve ordered some bamboo! @Floobydo do report back about boxroll though. I’m weirdly fussy about my toilet paper though so not sure if I’m going to like the change 🤣🤣🤣

noblegiraffe · 19/06/2021 12:52

On an entirely different note, Young Minds are running a campaign in England to contact your MP to ask for funding for hubs to support early mental health interventions in children and young people act.youngminds.org.uk/fund-the-hubs

StaffRepFeistyClub · 19/06/2021 12:57

We have received nothing about tags from our SLT. An email would have been nice. Biscuits in the staff room or chocolates nicer. Or a bottle of wine …

No we have nothing just bloody sports day to get through

We've been thanked verbally but nothing else.
So many hours of writing, marking, grading, ranking, regrading, worrying.....

Namechercanged · 19/06/2021 13:12

We've been thanked verbally. That's it.

SLT have no idea how long it has taken to TAG as only one of them had a GCSE class....
