Yep, pretty much fully back to normal here-it’s like a parallel universe.
Typical that the weather should be so hot again today here-didn’t miss those sweaty year 11s period 5 this summer that’s for sure!
More and more testing positive for Covid (quite a lot of Year 7s today which meant teaching on Teams whilst teaching our classes was tricky as the new Year 7s haven’t had training yet.)
Definitely a baptism of fire today. Currently putting feet up

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 18:46

@Mistressiggi

Forget about that wee trip up to the festival Noble.
Sad I apologise to all Scots for suggesting that covid measures in schools were a sign of weakness.
Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 18:48

We have long memories. We still wang on about Bannockburn.

Mistressiggi · 06/09/2021 19:10

Will let you off with it this time, given previous good behaviour Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/09/2021 19:40

We're day 3 with kids today. Heat didn't help, but they were all a write off by 2pm. I just stopped teaching and we went into the school library before anyone else nabbed it. Lay around on the floor reading books for an hour.

What is a noun? A sea of completely blank faces apart from one keen bean who seems to have a year 6 brain in a year 3 body.

JanglyBeads · 06/09/2021 19:53

Yay for the library rule

MrsHamlet · 06/09/2021 19:53

@Piggywaspushed

Piggy digs around in cupboard for stiletto knife .
I saw Bob heading towards the head's office with that... I didn't bother to intervene
noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 20:23

Given the current infection rates in schools and the lack of mitigation measures, a two week half term on its own would make a tiny difference to rates in kids.

And they’ve left it too late to vaccinate.

JanglyBeads · 06/09/2021 20:28

But with other measures too?? Plus reintroducing masks and distancing in a few weeks? Although I can’t see backbenchers ‘allowing’ any of it.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 20:29

Many private schools have this anyway.

These circuit breaks only work coupled with a lockdown. No point if people are going to charge off on cheaper holidays.

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 20:30

We had other measures in July and that didn’t stop infection rates in kids going up and up.

JanglyBeads · 06/09/2021 20:31

True re July.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/09/2021 20:38

My issues with October 'circuit break':

I want to go away in October half term to Greece
Many schools have this anyway (or a 10 day break)
No one will stick to it now
What about my hair cut?

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 20:41

Infection rates in kids didn’t come down nearly as much over the summer as they should have done. If there was a lockdown it would need to be a strict one to be short and effective and I can’t see the appetite for that in 7 weeks? Depends on how it goes with hospitals - things would have to be very obviously bad and in the news.

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 20:43

And at what point can the government admit concern about infections in kids if they’ve removed mitigations and not vaccinated them?

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 20:50

Never?

noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 20:51

Exactly. No extended half term for us!

WhenSheWasBad · 06/09/2021 22:50

Potential ‘lockdown’ over an extended (for most schools) October half term

Summer didn’t drop levels by nearly enough, not sure what 2 weeks in October is going to do.

We have zero Covid measures. One of my own children has a classmate who has tested positive. I’m teaching kids whose sibling has got it. Only a matter of time till I bring it home. Sigh.

JanglyBeads · 06/09/2021 22:56

DfEguidance to accompany the CO2 monitors is out.

Haven’t read it yet, but two people on Parents United (ones who do sound like they have the technical knowledge), are saying the “safe” limits are much too high and contradict what SAGE have said.

Mistressiggi · 06/09/2021 23:34

Note even if it's way to high "there is no need to stop using the room"
Unions might think differently about that

Mistressiggi · 06/09/2021 23:35
noblegiraffe · 06/09/2021 23:43

Not even the maths teachers, Mistress Grin

So what do they suggest if it’s too high? (I couldn’t open the manual, just the delivery schedule).
