First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

I suppose they have to set the threshold somewhere??

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 19:49

If we start a new Republic without Staff would that make us counter-revolutionaries?

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2021 19:51

"it is not clear if there are criteria for similar actions due to in-school outbreaks under other circumstances."

Mate, those are the criteria for the other circumstances.

They said Jan that their graphs told them that five kids in a class was community transmission. This sounds like a case for piggy to argue that sometimes only looking at quantitive data makes you come up with bullshit that doesn't reflect reality on the ground.

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 20:03

Yes. It seemed like st least the paper was based on what actually happens in a primary school, although I haven’t read it all to check that assumption? Eg a few v gregarious children could act as super spreaders.

(Should we be worried that one of the authors appears to be a vet??)

Just posting this v interesting thread for those who haven’t been on it already (usual suspects from the Republic 👀!) as it’s interesting re high rates in some schools already and whether any actions are being taken. This seems quite variable!

Royal College of Paediatricians and Children's Health have issued a statement saying they were consulted by the CMOs on the vaccine decision.

www.rcpch.ac.uk/news-events/news/covid-19-vaccines-advice-CMOs-presidents-blog-13-sep-2021

They have said that they were in favour of the vaccine if it meant more time in school for kids.

They also said that they recommended that testing of asymptomatic children stop and that only children with symptoms should stay off school (presumably even if they have covid).

Hmmm.

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2021 20:09

the paper was based on what actually happens in a primary school

It was based on simulations. They said there wasn't any data of what actually happens (like we've only had 18 months to collect any...)

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2021 20:32

Oh yes, not speaking to anyone in any schools and then modelling quantitative data based on assumptions is the defining example of why someone needed to visit a school/ talk to teachers.....

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2021 20:33

I am worried by this move towards not testing kids. It's very us for themmy and raises interesting ethical questions.

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 20:35

Right.

Sounds like LFTs will be stopping at the end of the month then......

Hooray, have actually managed to find an interesting schools thread that none of you lot have posted on:

Do I!get a ⭐️?

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2021 20:35

JCVI also had the line about sending kids with covid to school.

I guess if you're only looking at kids and no one else, then it makes sense. But kids don't exist in a vacuum.

Appuskidu · 13/09/2021 20:43

Calm balanced language here Grin

I'm willing to bet no kid gets vaccinated in school if their parent hasn't signed the consent form.

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 20:51

Biff, Chip and Floppy come to CBeebies!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/entertainment-arts-58506089

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 20:53

Absolutely noble.

Crikey this is going to create a massive distracting drama when we need to be focussing on the winter plan. Notice I don’t say Boris’s winter plan.

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 20:54

NB by “this” I meant the consent issue not the Magic Key coming to CBeebies Grin

noblegiraffe · 13/09/2021 20:55

I did wonder how good you thought Biff & co would be to distract from covid!

winewolfhowls · 13/09/2021 21:53

Don't normally drink in the week but I had some wine left over from cooking, honest. Now I'm getting carried away dreaming of a two weeks half term.

JanglyBeads · 13/09/2021 22:18

Just listening to the radio re 12-15s:

What’s the betting that a large proportion of the people now arguing that it’s not fair to make one age group do something to support the rest of the community, are also those who argue(d) that the vulnerable should just stay home if they chose to, so that the rest of us can get on with our lives?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/09/2021 22:37

I don't want a 2 week half term - it'll mean a week taken off the summer this time, I bet.

My LSA is now off. Wonder if it's me next...

MrsHamlet · 14/09/2021 06:47

I'd take a week online over a week off the summer

WhenSheWasBad · 14/09/2021 06:50

I’ve already got a 2 week half term.

I think you are right rule more time teaching over summer. I’m really getting quite worried about the NHS over winter.

motherrunner · 14/09/2021 06:51

I do not want my summer holiday taken off me. I’ve moved my holiday twice now. I’m off at the end of summer term 2022.

eitak22 · 14/09/2021 07:08

I can imagine them giving the extra week to secondary and expecting primary to still be open as childcare. Bet they'd still take a week off summer for online learning.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 14/09/2021 07:09

@ChloeDecker

Especially as we now know Appuskidu, that we would not be acknowledged for it and would continue to be vilified. The general public reap what they sow, in my opinion and good will is the latest casualty.
Completely agree! In my personal experience, teachers and HCP have had enough and the government and society should be treading very, very carefully right now.
