I know, it seems just bad luck or some admins error initially but she did speak to some others today and once they are in lessons and seating plans hopefully she’ll get to know lots of others.

Also have a feeling we will be hit by Leeds festival since Leeds is part of our catchment area Sad

ChloeDecker · 03/09/2021 23:21

You must be so relieved to be off the ‘treadmill’ for a bit Clockspanner and I’m not surprised Leeds F has also caused problems!

I personally don’t think that necessarily it’s festivals themselves, with their fresh air that are the issue but more the age range of certain festivals because many festivals have been running with no spikes (like Wimbledon vs euros) but it seems the ones with young (usually unvaccinated or half vaccinated getting up close and personal!) people have caused a spread, which we all at least, predicted because the govt won’t vaccinate them but nevertheless is already disrupting education - the very thing that we often get accused of not caring about.

Happy Friday everyone Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/09/2021 23:33

Yep, it's teenager behaviour. Which is fine - good for them having some fun. But it's the same behaviour that's either happening in school, or at weekends and the results being dragged into schools.

I see the government are over ruling the JCVI on 12-15 vax.

HSHorror · 03/09/2021 23:59

Is that in telegraph? As i cant read it

noblegiraffe · 04/09/2021 00:16

“ Plans to vaccinate millions of schoolchildren against Covid are expected to be given the green light despite the Government's scientific advisers failing to recommend a mass rollout.

On Friday, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) delivered its long-awaited verdict, saying the "margin of benefit" of jabbing 12 to 15-year-olds was "considered too small" and citing the low risk to healthy children from the virus.

However, Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, has instructed Chris Whitty, England's chief medical officer, to look again and see whether there is a wider benefit to society from vaccinating youngsters.

Mr Javid said he wanted Prof Whitty and the chief medical officers from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to "consider the vaccination of 12 to 15-year-olds from a broader perspective".

He said he would then "then consider the advice from the chief medical officers, building on the advice from the JCVI, before making a decision shortly".

The Telegraph understands ministers are confident that Prof Whitty and the other experts will give the plan the go-ahead in the middle of next week.”

motherrunner · 04/09/2021 07:14

It’s too story on BBC too. Once again @noblegiraffe has seen through the BS and called it.

DanglingMod · 04/09/2021 07:22

And in the Times.

twinkletoesimnot · 04/09/2021 07:51

There's a festival nearby this weekend (Sundowner.)

What perfect timing.

DollyMixtureLulus · 04/09/2021 08:10

Ended up taking a class on Fri for a teacher waiting for a test result, because at least one set of parents are positive. Madness. Absolute madness.

There’s also a proper sanctimonius ‘teachers should feel better now’ thread using the article about how there’s no higher risk of hospitalisation. Aaaargh.

Sir Mark Wolpert on R4 atm, vaccines

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2021 08:29

www.newscientist.com/article/mg25133462-800-myocarditis-is-more-common-after-covid-19-infection-than-vaccination/

So, chances of developing myocarditis form covid itself if you are a 12-17 year old male is 450 per million.

I am also puzzled as to why the same JCVI logic was not applied to 16 and 17 year olds. The stats are the same!

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2021 09:01

hat I do find interesting btw is that JCVI scientists have said they are not able to assess educational issues as that is not where their expertise lies. That's a sea change! We have always been told that Jenny Harries, VanTam et al are perfectly able to do this : and it seems Whitty is.

ChloeDecker · 04/09/2021 09:29

There is something very suspect going on that’s for sure Piggy.

noblegiraffe · 04/09/2021 09:29

They certainly commented on education in their last report, they suggested they kids with covid could go to school to minimise disruption to education.

Were they told to stay in their lane? Was it negotiated as a get-out clause that meant the govt could still proceed as planned?

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2021 09:53

I have no idea but the single issue focus on myocarditis bewilders me : I just cannot, statistically, get it to make sense!

Appuskidu · 04/09/2021 09:58

@Piggywaspushed

I have no idea but the single issue focus on myocarditis bewilders me : I just cannot, statistically, get it to make sense!
Exactly. And with no mention of long covid?!
JanglyBeads · 04/09/2021 10:01

And they (JCVI) do say that vaccination prog will be disruptive to schools and education, so they do consider non medical issues when it suits them!

DanglingMod · 04/09/2021 10:11

Yes, on R4 last night (not sure who but someone from JCVI) said that the myocarditis, if suffered, is soon recovered from by young people but that "long term recurrence/effects are not known..." Oh, like Long Covid then? He was not challenged...

noblegiraffe · 04/09/2021 10:17

I mentioned it on the other thread, but what happened to those 15 paediatric long covid clinics announced by Matt Hancock?

If we're opening clinics, then it's a health issue, if it's a health issue, it should be included in the JCVI remit.

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2021 10:23

I thought that was hilarious jangly. How disruptive? More disruptive than absences? Than mass LFTs?? Than other jabs? It's disruptive, jab day, yes. But so is sodding school photo day...

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2021 10:23

Simple solution, anyway. Do it at vaccine hubs after school hours!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 04/09/2021 10:50

Just offer it as an option. That's the simplest thing to do.

I was at lunch last week with a guy who is involved with the AZ stuff - an Ox prof. He said that what 'they' want is to be able to offer a third jab as a paid option for adults. Like flu. AZ want some ££ for all the bad press basically.

JanglyBeads · 04/09/2021 10:51

Yeah it’s gone very quiet on those clinics hasn’t it?
