First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

Hmmmm... fishy. Not enough data on it? Don't believe it exists?

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2021 17:49

Especially off the back of the news that being double vaccinates halves your risk of Long Covid!

WhenSheWasBad · 03/09/2021 18:21

I nearly beat rule my first removal from class was at 11.30am.

So very tired.

JanglyBeads · 03/09/2021 18:43

Wow Chloe, 74 just in yr school connected by Reading?! (And we’re not talking Literacy here!)
Are you nearish to Reading?

JanglyBeads · 03/09/2021 18:44

I came on to post that inews article too. Pretty stark warning. Which govt will ignore.

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/09/2021 18:45

Dd2 had an ok day apparently. She was miserable for the first hour as they were put into an alphabetical seating plan so she wasn't next to a friend. After about an hour she plucked up the courage to talk to the girl sitting next to her, and after that it was fine because she's made a friend Smile They swapped phone numbers and are now chatting via text, which is nice. She's still nervous about doing proper lessons next week, but is significantly happier at the end of the day than she was at the start of the day.

noblegiraffe · 03/09/2021 18:46

Oh that's a relief, MrsAD! Lovely that they're texting!

ChloeDecker · 03/09/2021 18:47

Am London Jan although not west london. Out of about 240 in the year, that is pretty hefty!

DforE really need to pull their finger out and make plans for next summer’s exams. If they are not careful, they could well end up with a Year 13 cohort of have taken neither GCSE nor A Level public exams!

What a star! That’s warmed my heart reading that Grin

motherrunner · 03/09/2021 18:57

@MsAwesomeDragon Ah, what lovely news! She won’t fret over the weekend now. Well done her!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/09/2021 19:00

I was worried about her all day, so I'm really glad she had a good day. Making a friend is such a huge deal for her as she's so incredibly shy, and she was the person who talked first!!! I'm so proud of her!! And relieved I don't have to fall with a grumpy, stressed child all weekend.

motherrunner · 03/09/2021 19:04

She is a superstar!

Hercisback · 03/09/2021 19:05

MrsAD that's brilliant. Sounds like she's had a really good day.

One more day of inset Monday, then the madness begins!

Medra · 03/09/2021 19:57

Oh my goodness, today has been manic. Thank goodness it’s Friday.

cornercupboard · 03/09/2021 20:24

2 useless insets done, mad rush to get classroom ready, going in tomorrow as well, gah (but at least no SLT will be in lurking). CHildren in Monday.
Can't believe the "non jabs" decision. Bricking myself that I will get it and pass to CEV DH, bets are on. He's got to have an op in a month's time as well, will I give it to him or will he catch it in hospital. or (even more likely) DD pass it even though she's had a jab?

Clockspanner · 03/09/2021 20:29

I'm from near @Piggywaspushed originally, I think Grin but I find myself many miles north and I agree that Leeds Festival has a lot to answer for here! Loads isolating but family members able to carry on as normal. Scary. I have also resigned from my job.. not all about covid and largely due to relocation and childcare but relief is strong as its just ugh when I think about how we as a profession have been treated with regards to safety as well as things on an individual level at school and my personal experience is that I've been sheltered from the worst of things. Glad to read most of you are having good days back at school and thank you for your continued support that you give by being here and giving me something to read and nod along with even though I often don't have anything to contribute myself. It is still so very appreciated.

@MsAwesomeDragon lovely news! I had a similar situation on my first day of year seven (although we switched house phone numbers) and we are still best best friends now 20 years plus

TheHoneyBadger · 03/09/2021 20:59

What a relief MsAD - hopefully you'll have a less fretful weekend now too Smile

Ah @MsAwesomeDragon that’s lovely to read. DD didn’t have such a good day here, she’d really enjoyed summer school then the one girl she’d really got to know was moved out of her form at random so she came out and then suddenly burst into tears about it all. Think I’ve reassured her most people don’t make best friends on their first day and it’s best to get to know everyone and then see. I told her I know her best friend is somewhere, just waiting to be met. I said I knew this because of when I was at school but more because I’d taught for over 20 years and seen very very many Y7s… She seems a bit better now and I hope once lessons start it’ll be easier…

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/09/2021 21:16

Oh @MrsHerculePoirot, I hope next week is better for her. It's rubbish when they think they've made a friend then it's pulled away from them isn't it? Hopefully she'll listen to you and keep positive about making good friends soon. Have you got some nice things planned for the weekend to keep her mind busy and away from school?

PumpkinPie2016 · 03/09/2021 21:25

@MsAwesomeDragon so pleased your daughter has had a good day and made a friendSmile

@MrsHerculePoirot your poor daughter Sad it's such a hard time for them! I hope she soon makes friends -I'm sure she will Flowers

CarrieBlue · 03/09/2021 21:52

@Clockspanner - I think we’re going to be hit by Leeds fest too, so you must be relatively near me! We’re not in til next week though, not relishing the thought at all which I’ve not felt for the last five years, I don’t like it Sad

MrsHerculePoirot · 03/09/2021 22:04

I think she’s ok - she has a friend for a sleepover tonight and we’ve a busy weekend. I think it was worse for me because I thought after summer school it was going to be ok (and so did she I think!)… I feel like I said the right things about it all and I said I’d drive her on Monday!

JanglyBeads · 03/09/2021 22:14

MsrsHP that seems really quite cruel when seen from the individual level!
