First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

Have you seen primary kids capable of wearing masks in uk?
Do they remember to take them off/on when eating or outside

JanglyBeads · 02/09/2021 22:53

Well I certainly hope they take them off while eating, HShorror!

HSHorror · 03/09/2021 00:05

Lol i guess i mean put back on
My nieces in NY have worn them all year but it's easier if all the class is doing something.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/09/2021 06:39

Day 2 of inset coming up. Less than 4 hours of sleep. This is going to be tough.

@TheHoneyBadger is it another day with death by PowerPoint?

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot that is definitely a record!

First day back went really well. We're now mixing bubbles for playtime which was weird as not had that many children on the playground in a while. Assembly today which I'm honestly not sure about.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/09/2021 06:57

Possibly Sad

Hoping year 7 will be on the system at some point today - apparently their data can't be carried over onto our system until their actual start date which was meant to be today but was delayed till next week. I don't recall this being the case in previous years - maybe a new data rule.

We have something like 25% SEND in this intake and I have 3 full year 7 classes and one I have once a fortnight so need to start getting to grips with their needs.

Dd2's first full day at secondary school today. It's an induction day, so hopefully she'll have a happy and confidence building day (unlike my form yesterday, who had a very chaotic day)

TheHoneyBadger · 03/09/2021 08:26

Good luck miniDragon. Hopefully all very chill and settling. Bit of a pot luck with form tutors - unfortunately ds has had about 10 in his first few years at secondary - last year's was the worst and pastoral had to have about 4 kids with them every form time because the clashes were so bad and ft not the best at building positive relationships.

Star for rule that's impressive!

Let's hope Bob's little brother is the polar opposite of Bob Grin

I hope minidragon has a good day today!

I planned my first week for Y7 yesterday - got me into things. I'm looking forward to it Smile Out this morning but then I will do some more planning this afternoon (hopefully!).

Mistressiggi · 03/09/2021 08:38

Have a good day everyone. Soon be the weekend.

We had INSET yesterday but did it on Teams. Tbf first day INSET is usually just a lot of information to be given as opposed to teaching a lesson. We could make it fun and interactive but then you’d be there four times as long…. If you just send information out people don’t read it. I don’t know what the alternative is? We did two blocks of just under two hours then afternoon was dept/free time. Today we’re testing so staff not involved are all free to prep and Tuesday only Y7&12 in so we’ve got a fair bit of time this year which is nice!

Bloody BBC this morning had a doctor on about ventilation and he said that airflow in classrooms wouldn’t be a problem as in summer if classrooms got too hot schools would have addressed it so no problem there 😱. I mean WTAF. Even DH pissed himself laughing at that comment and swore at the TV…. 🙄

Iva had to move everything I own at work out of my classroom because they’ve timetabled every man and his dog in there and refused to change any…

We’re keeping staggered starts, use groups in via specific gates at specific times with sanitiser. Break and lunch zones and toilets for year groups being kept but students moving all round via a one way system… our mini dept staff room has reopened as a work room but we’ve made it nice and lovely and am so looking forward to being in there this year. They are a lovely lot and it saves me on so many occasions. Always someone to cry to, someone to laugh with or to have a cuppa with!

At least some out there across the world get what’s going to happen…..

Pupils in today after 2 inset days. Already 3 teachers and 1 office staff member have tested positive. And so it begins again.

I was just glad to be in today as I missed the first 2 weeks last September when I kicked off the year with Coronavirus myself. I wonder how long before we run out of teachers.

I've not set foot in my school yet and I'm already pissed off. No mitigations, no vaccines. They really don't give a shit about us.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2021 16:41
Sad
Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2021 16:43

That's an amazing letter carrie, which will be ignored. All Gavin could say on the telly yesterday was 'adults have been vaccinated'.

ChloeDecker · 03/09/2021 17:03

Just got in after first 3 days back!

I’ll go back and catch up with you all but before I do, just wanted to say that Reading festival has a lot to answer for! Amongst our year 13s, we have 74 currently positive for Covid from PCRs (plus some of their siblings in other year groups) and their connection is all went there.

More having to teach on Teams from Monday, half in class half out of class sort of thing.

Bloody marvellous

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2021 17:25

I have never been a festival type. I haven't heard our kids talking about it for years - but we have a suspicious number off. Was this not one of the government's so called 'experiments'? Do they care that it has disrupted so much (and presumably made some people really rather ill).

CarrieBlue · 03/09/2021 17:39

I don’t get how they can find there is a benefit to vaccination more than the risks but still say no. Makes no sense.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2021 17:39

It's highly contradictory, that.

Piggywaspushed · 03/09/2021 17:40

Myocarditis is horrible - but is also a side effect of covid!!

noblegiraffe · 03/09/2021 17:44

That they didn't consider long covid at all is really interesting. Why on earth not?

motherrunner · 03/09/2021 17:48

Inset done and dusted - shattered!

Head told us that she had had a meeting with other secondary heads yesterday in Wolves and the director of Wolves PHE. Apparently it’s a pretty bleak picture in regards to cases amongst secondary aged pupils so they have recommended we keep masks in communal areas, optional to wear in class, maintain social distancing, all illnesses require you to stay home and have a PCR, close contacts of positives will need a negative PCR test to return to school.
