You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Have a wonderful time!x
JanFebAnyMonth · 31/05/2021 16:17

Was thinking of you yesterday monkey and wondering how you are?

motherrunner · 31/05/2021 16:29

@Monkeytennis97 I know this will resonate more with you than most ... I’m seen by my mum Thursday. First time since early March 2020. I can go as I have been vaccinated twice. I’ll still need to take a quick LFT on site but I don’t care.

motherrunner · 31/05/2021 16:30

*seeing

JanFebAnyMonth · 31/05/2021 16:35

Oh mother that’s wonderful I remember your sadness at not being able to see her.

MsAwesomeDragon · 31/05/2021 16:41

That's brilliant mother!!!! Do enjoy seeing her!!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 31/05/2021 18:18

Wonderful news mother

Sea swim and everything seems much better here. Very very busy with people though. Its a perfect storm for UK breaks, first time meet ups and glorious weather. I hope the businesses do well out of it.

TheHoneyBadger · 31/05/2021 18:19

Hope everyone seeing people they’ve missed are enjoying it. I’ve been fasting today so very low activity and lots of distracting myself on the internet. Bit of a waste of good weather really!

motherrunner · 31/05/2021 18:59

Thanks everyone. After my wonderful weekend and excitement about seeing my mum, I had a call a couple of hours ago from the manager of her care home. She had been diagnosed used with dementia (we had suspected it) so now they’re reviewing their care plan for her. I’m scared. I’m not sure we can afford her care home anymore. It’ll mean putting her into a council run home but we do t know where the nearest one will be - could be counties away.

HarrietDVane · 31/05/2021 19:04

@motherrunner There are some really useful guides on the Age UK website which you might find helpful when thinking about your mum's care.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 31/05/2021 19:05

Oh mother. I'm so sorry. Flowers

We were in a similar situation with grandparents and the council run home was fine. The standard of care was as good as the non council one, just less pretty. Our relative was so unaware of anything that they couldn't tell the difference.

Look into continuing healthcare if you can. She probably won't qualify yet but may do at some stage.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 31/05/2021 19:37

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay - yep, it's horrific out where other people are! We're lucky in that we have a private beach we share with a few others, and a little harbour. It's been nice and normal/quiet. Went into the village yesterday, it was awful. Hoping that the opening of Spain as a green option might direct a few away from the beaches here. Restaurants and pubs doing roaring trade though, and only saw one person taking the kids with masks. He was wearing a lanyard, and with his family who were all wearing masks, but he had a right smug/smirky look on his face - don't believe he was exempt.

Police boat just gone oitvwith blue light flashing and everything. Ooh, exciting!

Piggywaspushed · 31/05/2021 19:39

it's horrific out where other people are!

Bit like MN in the past week!

That covid board need s to go. It is just full of false information and genuine nutjobs!

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 31/05/2021 20:02

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

I’ve just been out. I’m not leaving the house again til autumn. They’re still arriving in train and bus loads.

Haven’t even headed towards the beach.

I am avoiding beaches and moors like the plague. Plenty of time for the beach on my day off during term time. Harriet I grew up in your neck of the woods, just to add to the Worcs links 😁
HarrietDVane · 31/05/2021 20:14

There seem to be a lot of us about, Hobnob! Having said that, I do dream of escaping!

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 31/05/2021 20:26

I have to admit I'm also not a camper...

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 31/05/2021 20:28

mother I'm so pleased for you that you're seeing your mum

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 31/05/2021 20:30

That'll teach me to post before reading the full thread - mother I'm so sorry 😔

Monkeytennis97 · 31/05/2021 20:48

@motherrunner I'm so happy you are getting to see your mum at long last but sorry to hear of the situation. Sending you strength x

Monkeytennis97 · 31/05/2021 20:53

@JanFebAnyMonth we're fine thanks Smile so glad to get to half term and get the TAGS out of the way. Currently seeing DS every fortnight but he is fully vaccinated as am I and DH has his second next week. Hoping the 21st happens as miss playing in my orchestras and singing in my choirs so much and have rehearsals planned for that week and a concert too.

motherrunner · 31/05/2021 20:55

Thanks all. Tbh, it’s not a shock. What’s more shocking is how long it’s taken for the diagnosis. For the past few years I’ve been pushing for an assessment as she’s mute. As she’s young though NHS wouldn’t confirm without an MRI. She turned pension age in March so no MRI needed, just a tick box and hey presto. Dementia confirmed.

CarrieBlue · 31/05/2021 21:19

I’m another Worcestrian (is that a word?) - born there due to lack of hospitals with incubators in the rest of the county but lived in a much less picturesque part to the north east (I bet you can guess if you’re from the county!) until moving away for uni and then staying away to be a grown up!

Sorry about your mum motherrunner, I hope you can find a solution that you’ll all be happy with.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 31/05/2021 21:21

Well that’s daft mother. Fingers crossed for you with the care plan. Hope you can find a place nearby if needed.

Moors probably aren’t too bad, hobnob Although someone seems to have accidentally set it on fire again. Police here have the riot vans out patrolling so hopeful it won’t kick off again. It should be better now they’ve banned alcohol on the beach.

cantkeepawayforever · 31/05/2021 21:28

As a child / teen, lived in that strange corner where Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire get a bit tangled up - 3 state 6th form options were in 3 different counties!

JanFebAnyMonth · 31/05/2021 21:53

I once spent a wonderful weekend singing in Malvern and Worcester....
