You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask. Finally, upload your covid test results twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.

@JanFebAnyMonth

Just realised I probably need to refute the suggestion that I could be a serial killer ShockHmm
We all know you're a serial killer 🤣 I met my DH through OLD, and yes the first date was quite scary, but worth it.
noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 18:43

Should we tweet a minute-by-minute account of our rendezvous?

You know those Guardian dates where they both have to answer questions then rate each other out of 10? I want one of those type of accounts. Grin

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 18:46

Honey your challenge tomorrow is to get Jan to swear.

Jan your challenge is to get the number of the ex who owns a gold mine.

MrsHamlet · 29/05/2021 18:48

I came home from cocktails, had a nap, and now I'm going out for more. Cramming other people's normal life into half term is what we do, right?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/05/2021 19:00

Why've you not met them, Rule?

Not sure really. 20 years ago I met a woman in Estonia whose name was given to me via the forum - she wanted to meet people to learn English and I was travelling through on my way to Moscow. She's now my best friend. So I guess I met her 'through' the forum. She doesn't post there though.

I'm 2 glasses of Chablis down - first time I've had more than a tiny glass of wine in ages. Face is now bright red.

ChloeDecker · 29/05/2021 19:05

Yes to real life meeting. I'm scared which will inevitably lead to me drinking too much too fast

As teachers we never struggle to find some common ground to talk about at least, which is probably why the general public get fed up when going out with a bunch of teachers Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 29/05/2021 19:11

None of them OWNED a gold mine one happened to manage one is Tajikistan.

Ok you have to send us the survey then of questions we have to answer. I'm going to try and keep my swearing under control.

OLD is weird as hell - I got talked into trying briefly when ds was little - I did two dates, the first was ready to buy me a house in Hastings whilst he continued working in the City and whilst I joked along thinking it was a joke he was actually serious (don't think men don't get broody - he kept going on about his plan was always to be married and have a child by the time he was 40) and the second was one of those let me try and flatter you by telling you how you're not like other women types who I faked an emergency text to get away from. So OLD is not a good analogy. I'm sure Jan isn't as scary as either of them.

The gold mine manager now lives in France and messages sometimes and is very much a silver fox type who I occasionally consider 'visiting'. He's the one who wanted me to move to Beirut with him when he was in his dj phase and I ended up bailing on and doing my pgce instead.

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 19:20

First impressions?

What did you talk about?

Any awkward moments?

Good table manners?

Would you introduce her to your friends?

Describe Jan in three words

What do you think she made of you?

Did you go on somewhere?

If it weren’t for social distancing, would you have kissed? 👀

If you could change one thing about the evening, what would it be?

Marks out of 10?

Would you meet again?

😂 maybe a bit much

TheHoneyBadger · 29/05/2021 19:28

Yeah, maybe a bit much. No snogging planned.

MsAwesomeDragon · 29/05/2021 19:29

I'm especially interested in this question If it weren’t for social distancing, would you have kissed? 👀

eitak22 · 29/05/2021 19:31

Love the list of questions!

I've just booked a night away for August, both DH and I will be double vaccinated and hotel is free cancellation till 2 days before so we took a risk.

ChloeDecker · 29/05/2021 19:31

Is this like, Mumsnet First Dates!?!!!

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 19:33

I'm mentally rating you all now according to how scared I would be to meet you.

Jan is quite far down the list. Rule and Piggy are near the top.

cantkeepawayforever · 29/05/2021 19:38

Hahahahaha! Noble, I have to say that i would be both terrified and intrigued to meet you!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/05/2021 19:41

Haha, I'm not scary!

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 19:44

You were quite high up too, Cant, I think it depends on if we talk about mixed ability maths teaching Grin

Rule you deffo have an intimidating aura.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 29/05/2021 19:50

Strolls in, realises you all know each other and it's awkward, walks out again.

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/05/2021 19:50

Maybe we’ll just talk about you lot.....

Am sure we’ll have such a fab time that we’ll both have to restrain ourselves for ever after in the Republic, from making those annoying little “in crowd” references that no one else gets .......

HarrietDVane · 29/05/2021 19:52

I think I'd be far too scared to meet people IRL! However, I am intrigued to know how you get on Smile

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 19:53

Herc you rate as scariest of the maths teachers.

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/05/2021 19:56

Ange is scary, she gets banned regularly!

Have a lovely time away rule.

I’m not a proper teacher so can’t discuss “high stakes assessment” and suchlike ☹️.
However we can talk about how fab single parents of Y9 boys are: swings and roundabouts.

No we are NOT kissing! (Nothing personal honey)

JanFebAnyMonth · 29/05/2021 19:58

We will definitely toast The Republic 👩🏼‍🏫 🇧🇹 (Teacher and random flag emojis)

noblegiraffe · 29/05/2021 20:02

Would love for you to be sitting there in real life talking about noblegiraffe, piggywaspushed, msawesomedragon and so on Grin

Ange is low down on the scary list, despite the bannings.

Piggywaspushed · 29/05/2021 20:02

I am not scary!

MrsHamlet · 29/05/2021 20:05

Ooooh, can we go to the first dates hotel on our road trip?
