You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

My ASDA home delivery last night included Blue Sapphire gin... which I don’t like, hadn’t ordered (nor any other alcohol) and wasn’t on my order. Weird!

I gave it back.

noblegiraffe · 07/05/2021 18:04

Operation Inebriate Jan foiled :(

ArnottsUnderpass · 07/05/2021 18:24

You gave gin back??!! I'm very impressed.

I just saw one of our AHTs in the supermarket. We were both perusing wine 🤣

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/05/2021 18:40

TFI Friday!

My Bob came in for his 2 hours, smashed shit up and went home after 45 minutes.

The teacher I saw yesterday who was a bit shit came to see my class today. My kids were amazing - exemplary behaviour for learning. The H covered his class for 15 mins so he could come down, so I went to see her afterwards. She said 'the work he left was boring, they are bored, the SEND children weren't catered for and just sat there, the whole class just felt dull and crap... I just wanted to get out of there, it was miserable'

So, that's my job to fix. Yay!

DanglingMod · 07/05/2021 18:46

Every single one of our year 12s has been a Bob this week - along with most of year 10, 9 and 8 and some of year 7.

DanglingMod · 07/05/2021 18:46

Year 11s, garrr.

MrsHamlet · 07/05/2021 18:59

A Bob had to be removed from someone's class today for ostentatious use of lip balm. Teacher doesn't want him back.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 07/05/2021 19:02

Ostentatious use of lip balm? The mind boggles.

We had another Bob throw a glue stick at a teacher because he 'hates this fucking school'.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 07/05/2021 19:03

One of my Bobs hasn't been to school for a long time. They came to do some work after school today and we applied for a college place. I hope they take it.

MrsHamlet · 07/05/2021 19:03

The teacher in question is not good with Bobs. He hates Bobs. Bobs know this.

Saucery · 07/05/2021 19:05

Ostentatious lip balm Grin

MrsHamlet · 07/05/2021 19:08

My afternoon was made amusing by introducing year 10 to Macbeth. We were talking about witches and the subject of how you'd know a witch came up. Someone mentioned nipples.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 07/05/2021 19:09

Ostentatious lip balm is excellent.

We have a member of staff who refuses to teach Bobs. Somehow they get away with it.

borntobequiet · 07/05/2021 19:10

I once covered a lesson for our Head. The lesson plan looked as though it had been flung together in 2 minutes, pretty much “read this section and answer these questions”, which was OK as far as I was concerned. However he had been banging on about homework for a while, it was our focus for the half term or something, and though it was clear from the kids’ planners homework should be set, he hasn’t. So I set plenty, and he had to thank me for it, what a shame.

borntobequiet · 07/05/2021 19:11

Hadn’t not hasn’t

TheHoneyBadger · 07/05/2021 19:21

Finished final unit of the year with my year 9 today - onto revision from next week, then mocks and mock review. Can't believe we're there already. I had 2 assessment lessons in the afternoon that were actually peaceful and filled my planner out for the next couple of weeks. I've got 2 lessons next week where classes are watching a film (it's on the syllabus - not my call) and I'm going to do marking - in class! Keep thinking I must have forgotten some load of work I must be doing this weekend but I think I'm genuinely clear!

Plus ds is busy this weekend with a birthday party at an 'allowed' sports centre, then the gym and swim on Sunday so it's all looking pretty peaceful.

Everything crossed the plague crosses you by Piggy.

Not heard of any cases or issues with the variant locally - hope it stays that way.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/05/2021 19:23

Passes you by!

I am kindly drinking gin for those who have none.

ArnottsUnderpass · 07/05/2021 19:27

Hopefully the lurgy misses you all HoneyB!

One of my Bobs suspended for racism. Other one is on work experience so no doubt won't turn up to exams/assessments.

I'm too tired to care. Yr7 were lovely but high as kites today, and yr10 basically were blobs as opposed to Bobs. Was like teaching wallpaper paste.

ArnottsUnderpass · 07/05/2021 19:28

I meant Piggy 🙈

I may have had a couple of gins already

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/05/2021 19:30

I think we’ve acquired a bob at work. Not behaviour wise or anything like that, he’s quite quiet and just sort of ... does nothing. Well certainly not any work anyway.

cornercupboard · 07/05/2021 19:50

Ah Jeez I cant begin to describe the hell of today... Friday with a supply teacher and a class of whack-a-moles. Poor supply, I felt so sorry for her. All the techniques - talk quietly so they stop gobbing off to listen - praise the good - offer incentives - didn't touch the sides. I was mortified at how bad they were. And felt so sorry for the ones doing all the right things all the time, who are basically cast adrift on a sea of crap behaviour.
Then home to a nice argument with dh and another with dc, having had the princely 8 minute lunch break to gobble my food.
Gah.....................

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/05/2021 20:08

I had a lovely day today. My 3 biggest Bobs had a bollocking from DH this morning because of all the crap I had to write down on their report sheets yesterday. So they were delightful this morning. And I'd planned a nice, easy, repetitive lesson for today so it was easier for them to behave properly. I've got a ton of work to do over the weekend though.

How would any of your schools respond to a year 13 saying "I can't do that test then, that's when my driving test is"?

MrsHamlet · 07/05/2021 20:10

mrsAD the head of sixth would pat them and ask them to move it. I would tell them to move it. Especially now!
I had an email today asking me to help with some revision. It was from a child who couldn't be bothered to come to my lessons this week.

DanglingMod · 07/05/2021 20:13

If it was a test going towards their grade, nfw (and presumably all are now). They can't sit a test/assessment at a different ti the rest of the class, according to the guidance.

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2021 20:22

I have moved an assessment because of a driving test! They can't control them, and they aren't exams....

Kids who are absent are doing them at a different time.

They can't cheat because all the assessments are online anyway.
