You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

SHOTS!!!

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/03/2021 19:22

I actually wonder if I’d like to take a break from the actual teaching and instead run the school admin? I love a bit of that - cover, timetabling, general organisation.... not first aid though.

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/03/2021 19:23

@MrsHamlet twats. Them not you. Obvs.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/03/2021 19:27

MrsH you're guaranteed a job at our new school

cat I hear you. Flowers for you

phleb Gin for you

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/03/2021 19:30

Mrsherc, that's interesting, do teachers ever move to such positions? I'd be quite happy doing a bit as well. Let's find a couple of lovely semi retired Cqll the Midwife type nurses to do the First Aid.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 23/03/2021 19:30

Oh MrsH wankers!!

I'd excel at school based admin. Rotas, timetables, cover etc. I'd have it done in seconds. Exams officer is my semi retirement plan.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/03/2021 19:33

Each subject department in secondary years will have one full time ta (in the conventional sense - not lsa) and a number of hours of their time allocated to each member of staff to use as they see fit eg. photocopying, counting worksheets into group sets (how long do I spend doing that every week?), even making laminated stupid card sorts and sorting them into envelopes and then resorting them after a class has mixed them all up.

We will have cleaners who have time to actually clean rather than just flick a duster over the table tops and make a token gesture of vacuuming the floor. It won't need to a once in a century pandemic for them to wipe door handles and light switches - just standard cleaning Hmm

Inset days will have carousel training sessions where you can choose which you want/need to attend and staff will be surveyed to see what they actually need training on. Ooh and we'll go back in time to that system of actually being able to attend a paid for cpd event outside of school with your classes covered one day a year (those fancy ones in hotels where they give you pens and stationary and give you lunch).

We will also have an occupational therapist, a dedicated social worker, counsellors and specialist providers of literacy and numeracy intervention for kids who are a whole key stage or more behind - all on site for our use.

Crazy stuff I know.

noblegiraffe · 23/03/2021 19:36

MrsHP and Herc are only allowed to do timetabling/cover if they still agree to teach all the stats at sixth form. Leaving all the lovely mechanics for me!

MrsH some people wouldn't know a good thing if it smacked them in the face. Losers.

Flowers to cat and phleb and anyone else having a crap day.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/03/2021 19:36

So sorry Mrs H. Console yourself that it may have been a token advertising anyway ie. already knowing who they want to give it to in house but having to be seen to advertise. Seems to happen a lot.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 23/03/2021 19:38

@MrsHamlet they are idiots!

I am happy to do camps and I could bring my DH. He either wants to stay in the classroom or do coaching. He wants 0.6 and no slt responsibility.

Could we have a younger Sigourney Weaver feom her Alien days to add to the PE team? The L and B (and other letters that want) need some scenery too.

I vote for at least one overnight course with naice hotel stay per staff member. Optional obviously.

CallmeHendricks · 23/03/2021 19:39

My "Bob" got his willy out today.
In fairness, I think it was more absent-minded than anything else. "Put it away please" was enough to sort it out. Grin

P.S. LKS2, not secondary.

CallmeHendricks · 23/03/2021 19:41

@MrsHamlet

Didn't get shortlisted. Arse.
Their loss.

Don't suppose you happen to know who they did shortlist? Any young arses whippersnapper blokes who dashed off an application whilst playing CoD on Sunday night. Included that on their CV as a talent for multi-tasking?

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2021 19:42

Oh, sorry MrsH

Nil desperandum.

ChloeDecker · 23/03/2021 19:44

So, folks, what’s the name of our local pub that we will all flock to at 3:30pm on Fridays to have a good goss and a whinge?! Wine

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/03/2021 19:59

The Republic!

HarrietDVane · 23/03/2021 20:02

So sorry MrsH. They obviously don't know a good thing when they see one.

noblegiraffe · 23/03/2021 20:07

The Republic isn’t the closest pub to the school but we deliberately go past the Gav and Whip to get to it because it’s much nicer.

As lunch breaks are an hour long we can also pop there for a quick drink Friday lunchtimes as they have a nice beer garden and do decent chips.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/03/2021 20:16

God I love this thread and the group of like minded peeps. It's a tonic after a tricky day followed by online parents Evenings pt1.

Taking requests for the staff choir repertoire....

namechangedyetagain · 23/03/2021 20:18

@MrsHamlet arses. The lot of them.
I've taken the interview prep approach
of drinking gin and shaving my legs so I can wear tights. That will be enough surely.

I literally can't eat I feel so sick. My practice lesson didn't go well, I can't think of any suitable interview answers.

At least tomorrow night it will all be over.

Any last minute tips will be fabulous.
I want to teach so badly. No desire to do anything further than that (2nd career) but to actually help those little people on their way would be amazing.

TheHoneyBadger · 23/03/2021 20:25

Ooh hour long lunchbreaks! The luxury! Don't let me drink beer though I'm trying to lose weight.

Except on Fridays when I'll treat myself to a few pints in The Republic.

Interview in the morning [wibble] going to try and get an early night and an early morning.

HarrietDVane · 23/03/2021 20:27

Good luck Name and HoneyBadger! I hope your interviews go well.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/03/2021 20:29

Taking requests for the staff choir repertoire

"I don't like Mondays"
"Another brick in the wall"
"School's out"

9pmcouchnaps · 23/03/2021 20:29

So sorry MrsH, did they give you any feedback?

Best of luck name - you’ll be fab, just show them how passionate you are

9pmcouchnaps · 23/03/2021 20:30

I don’t know how to bold people’s names yet, sorry!

thecatfromjapan · 23/03/2021 20:34

MrsH 💐💐💐💐💐💐 to you.

I went for a job the other day & wasn't shortlisted either.

So 🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫.
