You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I'll do the stats noble

Awesome! Dream team, Herc.

chocolateisavegetable · 23/03/2021 16:30

Minibus to the literacy conferences - not on a week when choc is observing the new recruit though of course

Thanks Jan

Contract must include that he is to wear shorts all year round

I like your thinking there Guy

Herc I'm happy to help you with the stats if you like - I like stats and am pretty IT literate

9pmcouchnaps · 23/03/2021 16:41

Could I just have my own classroom please? I have no other demands. As a Covid NQT at a school where teachers are currently moving to pupils, I am dreaming of my own room that I get to set up as I choose, with technology I know works, dictionaries, whiteboards, a little reading corner and pretty displays...

chocolateisavegetable · 23/03/2021 16:43

I volunteer to share a room with Chris in order to free up a room for 9pm . I really am so selfless ...

Michino · 23/03/2021 16:53

Please miss, can I join the school too. HLTA who loves KS1 and LKS2. I can do Sp&L and phonics interventions. I can assess for dyslexia, and I'll cover science for PPA. Just no PE please (two left feet!)

chocolateisavegetable · 23/03/2021 16:58

Fear not Michino - I have PE covered

The Fifty-third Republic - Ides of March Part 2
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/03/2021 17:02

Chris has got the PE covered for you, Michino. I’m going to need someone to do the DT for me. I can do whatever primary PE Chris doesn’t have time for.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 23/03/2021 17:19

Last minute call from the docs and I've been vaccinated. They had been ringing schools to offer spares until the LA said to stop last week, now they're doing any teachers they know are teachers. Feeling v emotional about it and super thankful. I hope everyone else waiting gets it soon.

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/03/2021 17:39

Excellent herc!!!! What a lovely thing your doctor's surgery has chosen to do. Good for them!!!!

A couple of our local primaries have managed to get all their staff vaccinated, but they aren't sharing the secret of how. Our head would definitely pull strings to get our staff vaccinated if only he knew which strings to pull, and which people to talk nicely to. Even if a big part of his reasons for doing it would be to reduce the amount of cover needed if staff get ill.

More kids tested positive today (or maybe last night) on the LFTs they did at home. So more kids sent home to isolate. I think that's years 8,9 and 10 with groups isolating, and years 11, 12 and 13 with individuals isolating due to contacts outside school (family members, they aren't all breaking the rules). And one member of staff isolating due to close contact outside school who is in big trouble because she is only a contact because she was breaking the rules

RandomGrammarPun · 23/03/2021 18:13

Back to the situation at my place where there's the odd kid off with confirmed Covid...and all the kids who sit next to them are off with "a cold" (ie, they're not getting tested). Gonna spread like mad again, isn't it?

Beyond selfless. I can’t thank you enough
JanFebAnyMonth · 23/03/2021 18:17

Oh what I wouldn't give for a night out with you lot at the moment.

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/03/2021 18:24

We would have the BEST night, wouldn't we Jan. I really, really, really want us all to meet up in person when we're allowed to. You lot can all get drunk and I'll be the responsible sober adult who tries to keep you all safe (I won't stop you humiliating yourselves if you seem to want to though)

MrsHerculePoirot · 23/03/2021 18:27

@noblegiraffe

I'll do the stats noble

Awesome! Dream team, Herc.

Can I be on the dream team too? I LOVE the stats and further stats if that helps?

I don’t mind responsibility for ICT related things. Especially if we have unlimited budgets and I can make everything work how I want it to....

Appuskidu · 23/03/2021 18:28

I’ll be SENCo if I can have some admin support and a printer that works!

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/03/2021 18:35

Good grief our wants aren't huge, are they?!

Can you imagine us all cackling round a table "Do you remember the man Mrs H kept posting (shots are downed).... and Chris (more shots)...... and when we nearly got banned (more shots)"

Not that I drink more than a glass of wine, actually!

Wonder who widespread we are, I think it's wide isn't it?
Most northerly = mistress - are you lowlands of highlands?
Most southerly = it's either phleb or rule iirc?
Most westerly = DrMad maybe, although we did have Irish input a few times, but I can't quite recall /spell the username
Most easterly = ?? I have no idea.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/03/2021 18:36

Excuse the typos. It's the shots I don't drink.

Any far flung lurkers feel free to reveal yourselves. Have we got no one from East Anglia??

lonelyplanet · 23/03/2021 19:08

I'm quite Easterly. I'll volunteer Bob duty when he's kicked out of lessons. I'm good with Bobs.

twinkletoesimnot · 23/03/2021 19:08

Not caught up yet but @JanFebAnyMonth I'm from Norfolk!

thecatfromjapan · 23/03/2021 19:09

Hello.

I'm tired today. World-weary tired.

I don't mind what I do (Primary here), just so long as I'm not expected to cure every one of society's problems, from mental health, to racism, to social and economic inequality, to sex-based violence and harassment. And a school where parents think they have a role in their children's moral and ethical behaviour might be nice.

Sorry to be such a downer - but I'm very fed up.

phlebasconsidered · 23/03/2021 19:10

Things I coped with today:
My Bob1 literally running from the cloakroom into the classroom screaming "GTA DEATH!" Keeping up that level of madness all day.
Year 4 and 2 closing. Siblings in my class still in!
Ringing parents telling them not to let their 11 year old free range with an assortment of year 7 and 8's in the skate park that we already know are county lines. Their response? "They're allowed to exercise."
1 lunchtime fight that had to be separated.
Data for the class so far input by this evening after pointless tests.

Then I got home.
Teen daughter in room. Still not down. World is awful. Teen son fine but has eaten everything. Elderly mother a ok, quite chipper. She has discovered uktv and all the Eastenders ever.

I went into the back room with marking and "Unforgotten". SHE GOT HIT BY A CAR. Ffs.

HarrietDVane · 23/03/2021 19:12

I have no designs on SLT but will happily take primary humanities and/or MFL lead.

I often wonder if I ought to be more ambitious IRL but I like the classroom bit of my job much, much more than the admin bit, and promotion at my school seems to involve coming out of the classroom. Plus I have crashingly low self confidence and I'm not male and in our school that seems to lead to automatic promotion.

thecatfromjapan · 23/03/2021 19:16

Oh boy, phlebas, that sounds like a fun day.

MrsHamlet · 23/03/2021 19:19

Didn't get shortlisted. Arse.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/03/2021 19:19

Hugs over the ether to you phleb.

Cat, long time no 'see'! Sorry you've had a bad day/week/month too.

We will run parenting classes. Seriously good ones. Shall we have a SureStart centre attached to the school?
