You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I’ve got a vaccine appointment!

My Head put us on a waiting list for cancelled appointments/spares etc and I’ve woken up to an appointment!

My friend (who has also received an appointment) is now saying it’s down to lack of confidence in the AZ vaccine so more appointments being cancelled and the fire freed up for ‘spares’.

It’s what I wanted and now I’m worried.

motherrunner · 15/03/2021 05:27

@DrMadelineMaxwell I’m so sorry 😢 Take time off, be your sister’s support (and look after yourself).

HerdyGerdy · 15/03/2021 06:02

So very sorry, DrMadeline.

That sounds like an awful shock. Strength and love to you both. Please don't go in to work. Flowers

eitak22 · 15/03/2021 06:51

Very unmumsnetty hugs DrM as others have said don't go to work, you need time to process. Flowers

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/03/2021 07:00

Thank you all. Flowers

HarrietDVane · 15/03/2021 07:01

Oh DrM, that is heartbreaking. Please don't go to work today. It's not the priority. Thinking of you and your family. Thanks

TheHoneyBadger · 15/03/2021 07:47

Oh no. How awful. Sorry DrM.

I was feeling sorry for myself for it being Monday morning and needing to wrestle ds out of bed but yes, that puts things in perspective.

Monkeytennis97 · 15/03/2021 08:54

Morning all! Jumping on 😊

Monkeytennis97 · 15/03/2021 08:58

So sorry @DrMadelineMaxwell just read full thread. Please take the time you need away from school.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/03/2021 09:01

I'm taking the morning off. So tired!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 15/03/2021 09:11

Good you’re taking the morning off. Think about taking the afternoon off too if you need it. The children will manage.

Thread about the 30 mins to reading LFT result issue, no clear answers but it's obviously an issue! We need an expert to explain what goes on:

If you read your lateral flow test long after 30 mins www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4192401-If-you-read-your-lateral-flow-test-long-after-30-mins

TheHoneyBadger · 15/03/2021 10:32

Interesting Jan. Must remember to do an lft later - did my last one on Friday.

Ds is not well and I feel rotten too but am off to work in a bit. Long meeting after work about something that I'm not involved in at all and so am hoping not to be made to attend.

Nothing covid-esque - both just dog tired, headache and occasional nausea. I have checked the carbon monoxide thingy after making myself paranoid by joking about it.

Trying to drink a cup of coffee to perk me up but it's just making me feel sick and my eyes hurt as daft as that sounds.

TheHoneyBadger · 15/03/2021 10:48

I've just done my lft and am waiting for the half hour mark. Feeling a bit paranoid about both ds and I being so tired and under the weather at the same time. No temperature and no cough and my sense of smell is fine - I know the lfts are next to useless but I've got them so I'll use them.

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/03/2021 11:27

Hope you're both better quickly honey.

On the subject of "worse than useless", have just posted this on the Data thread:

The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) has written to the MHRA calling for urgent review of the schools LFD testing, because (I think) of the incredibly low number of positives:

<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=www.facebook.com/groups/657607021743154/permalink/880027806167740/" target="_blank">https://www.facebook.com/groups/657607021743154/permalink/880027806167740/

JanFebAnyMonth · 15/03/2021 11:33

Actual letter is here - clearly explained concern about in-school false positives unconfirmed by PCR, but also about the whole scheme

CallmeHendricks · 15/03/2021 12:03

So, call me a cynic, but does this mean that that will just ditch them? And replace them with nothing, leaving schools open just as in December?
God help us all.
