You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Custard creams?
No WAY!!! We're having posh biscuits in this gaff.

Timeturnerplease · 22/03/2021 22:26

Can I join? Am old, knackered, pregnant and owner of a two year old BUT am pretty damn good with KS2 if I do say so myself (I’m also good with KS1, but I hate it with such a fiery passion that I now just pretend that I’ve forgotten how to teach phonics).

Must outsource PE. And music, hideous subject if you’ve not the first clue what any of it means.

Can we hire some lunchtime supervisors so the kids can leave us be for an hour at lunch to actually mark/set up for next lesson/maybe even eat something ourselves?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/03/2021 22:27

@JanFebAnyMonth

Oo, can we have a staff choir that rehearses at a time I can actually make, DrMad?
Definitely.

I'm in for any theatre trips too, btw.

I managed the first 8 years of my career without teaching PE as I always did a class swap and taught their class music.

cantkeepawayforever · 22/03/2021 22:28

I missed the staff choir! If I promise to stay at the end to help tidy up, please could you allow the primary staff to join in and forgive me for missing the first rehearsal?

BadlydoneHelen · 22/03/2021 22:33

I'd have a male teacher just so we've got someone to take the boys to the loo when we go to the panto at Christmas Grin

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 22:37

We're all one big happy staff family here!

We have music teachers here, never fear. And I love a custard cream.

I will manage the lunchtime supervisors and ensure they receive behaviour management training, regular updates and opportunity to discuss policies, safeguarding issues etc and that there are ENOUGH of them. They will also get to decide whether kids need their coats on or not, not a teacher walking past who's precious about her own children and doesn't consider if she's undermining the supervisor. Ah, but we won't have any of those....

BadlydoneHelen · 22/03/2021 22:39

Meant to say can I join? TA worked in every year group except reception, happy to cover any subject

Perhaps we could get a male sports teacher as none of us seems to like teaching PE?
HarrietDVane · 22/03/2021 22:41

Can we find some friendly catering staff from somewhere? The kitchen staff at my school are terrifying!

CallmeHendricks · 22/03/2021 22:43

Can we have decent coffee provided?
And reinstate Cake Friday?

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 22:44

We had some nice cooks, inc one who qualified as a foster carer while I was a lunchtime supervisor.

Is the male PE teacher single?

HarrietDVane · 22/03/2021 22:46

@CallmeHendricks

Can we have decent coffee provided? And reinstate Cake Friday?
YES! The staff room must be equipped with good coffee, fancy biscuits and cake on Fridays. And there will be a functioning dishwasher.
HarrietDVane · 22/03/2021 22:47

Is the male PE teacher single?

He can be if you'd like him to be...!

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 22:53

Hmm only if he doesn't want a running partner or expect to watch footie every Saturday afternoon.... actually no let's make him happily married. I can go to literacy conferences. I presume we'll have a generous training budget Smile

JanFebAnyMonth · 22/03/2021 22:55

I actually didn't mean that to sound like conferences are for One Thing only!

Let's take them from my school, they're so lovely there!

TA most comfortable in KS1 here, teacher training next year, if this new school needs any more KS1....Grin

MrsHamlet · 23/03/2021 06:48

We definitely need some beautiful male staff. I don't care what they teach.
Training budget has got to be big and allowed to be used for anything - not just shite "training"

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 23/03/2021 06:52

Yes to beautiful males, and by beautiful I include having a nice personality.

You can have the cleaning staff from my place. They're excellent.

Training should be actual good cpd. Not some shite someone came up with the day before.

eitak22 · 23/03/2021 07:02

Our Kitchen staff are awesome and always leave spares in the classroom (we should bring them) and the lead MDS is fab too and knows what every child will and won't eat and can deal with behaviour.

Appuskidu · 23/03/2021 07:13

Wow-what happened, I miss a few days and you’ve started a school! Would love to come if there’s a vacancy-do you need an EYFS teacher?! Can play the piano too, but tend not to say that too loudly or else I’m timetabled to do all assembly slots!

Hope everyone’s doing ok. I can’t remember feeling this tired for a long time-it feels like the time Ofsted came in just before Christmas Blush.

Iamnotthe1 · 23/03/2021 07:15

@cantkeepawayforever

I'm in. KS2, pretty much anything but not PE. Or Geography, if it can be avoided (the fact I only did Geography for 2 years in my entire education is achingly obvious). If I could be in charge of liaising between KS2 and KS3 to ensure continuity of the Maths curriculum to maximise children's progress, I'd ADORE that.
Urgh! I feel like I've been having that battle for years. Where my school is, the local secondary pretty much repeats the Year Six Maths curriculum in Year Seven. Turns kids right off the subject.
namechangedyetagain · 23/03/2021 07:29

I vote we have Chris for our wellbeing to keep us going on down days.

First tranche of interviews today for the job I'm going for (I'm tomorrow's bunch). I have a day to come up with good examples to answers. Am not great at that. Hope it comes to me when I need it.

Will they take into account that I'm really nervous? Do you think the fact they've been watching me since Oct will help? Really clutching at straws because I badly want the job.

ChloeDecker · 23/03/2021 07:56

I’d be happy to work with my DH again. He would be very handy doing the Duke of Edinburgh expeditions for us!

ChloeDecker · 23/03/2021 07:56

Good luck name!!!

borntobequiet · 23/03/2021 08:19

I can go to literacy conferences.

So could we all...
