You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Now we know why I got rammed in tout de suite, eh?

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 17:58

Do you mean the upper schools all end up with male heads because all the "serious stuff" is seen as being there, no room for touchy-feeliness?

Yes, sort of. Middle School heads also all male. More of a mix in lower schools but usually female.

We have had some year 12s sent home today.

Monkeytennis97 · 17/03/2021 18:00

@CarrieBlue

No more vaccines for under 50s - I’m absolutely fuming.
Same here. Fuck this.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/03/2021 18:02

Why not?

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 18:02

Nearly all the over 50s in my schol are in a different health authority from me. I don't know anyone who has been done unless they are group 6 or above.

It sucks.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/03/2021 18:08

All our guys who are over 50 are booked in for this weekend. Some booked 2 weeks ago as an over 56 year old, some booked yesterday - all got in on the same days as the first option. Wondering if it's people not showing up for AZ. Which is fucking stupid.

GravityFalls · 17/03/2021 18:11

Interesting - one thing I like about my college is the visible, powerful “older” women (I am defining older as over-40, which, you all know why).

Principal: male
VP: female
Assistant principals (all HoDs, drafted in a hurry to fill one full-time AP role between them after someone left under a cloud, but it works well so became a permanent arrangement): two female, one male.

Of the remaining HoDs it’s about 60/40 female/male. Teaching staff probably about 50/50 overall.

It feels like a place where women matter and have a voice, and that’s a great, and not necessarily common feeling.

RandomGrammarPun · 17/03/2021 18:12

What will be absolutely disgusting if there is a four week delay is all the under 50s (some significantly younger) who have been done with no underlying health conditions way before some over 50s in some areas.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/03/2021 18:17

Ours:
HT female, English, as was her predecessor
DH male, Hist
AHs all male: Hist, Mat, Sci
SBM female
SENCO female
HOYs 3 f 2 m, Bio/Psych, Sci, Mat, Mat, Sci (gosh hadn't realised how STEM our current batch are. There's a recently married couple in there too)
Heads of 6th: m and f, Geol/PE

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/03/2021 18:19

Oh, I've just seen the news. What a shitter. Means all the old farts will be off on holiday, leaving everyone else stuck at home. The EU is going on about 'vaccine forms' to travel, but also saying they don't want to discriminate. How is that actually possible? Knew they'd fuck it up eventually.

We'll be in the position of having me vaccinated with a booking to go to France in July, and my partner not vaccinated. Erk.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 17/03/2021 18:30

I'm going to be the only woman in a dept of over 10 come Sept. I'm not looking forward to it.

SLT is a sausage fest here too. Token women but none taken seriously which seems worse in my eyes.

phlebasconsidered · 17/03/2021 18:33

I am so pissed off I am 49.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/03/2021 18:37

DH has managed to book his vaccine for Friday, so I'm pleased for him (he's early 50s and does have a condition that would count for group 6 if he'd had a flare up more recently). So sorry for the rest of you that there's a hold up!! (I read that sarcastically in my head but it's not meant that way). It's been going so well that it's completely crap to have a delay now, when everyone thought they were almost there.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/03/2021 18:42

Took me a while to work out what a sausage fest was....

ChloeDecker · 17/03/2021 18:58

Finished a long and stressful parents evening to then read that I won’t be getting the vaccine anytime soon now.
FFS.

I don’t even have the headspace to contemplate the chaos that is the Ofqual/DforE mess up of the GCSEs and A Levels.

I’m going to go to sleep and hopefully wake up in 2022.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

CarrieBlue · 17/03/2021 19:06

Good job we listened to the government advice and didn’t book holidays - we’ll be in the position of neither of us being vaccinated and still being exposed to 600+ children and their families every week, and unable to go. I shouldn’t be surprised by government stuffing things up by now. I wonder how many government ministers have been vaccinated?

TheHoneyBadger · 17/03/2021 19:14

Our school gets a phone call when there are leftover vaccines at nearby centres. Quite a lot have been done that way now.

Are others not doing this?

winewolfhowls · 17/03/2021 19:15

I love the phrase sausage fest, it creates such an image in the mind.

Hope your interview went well sansa

RandomGrammarPun · 17/03/2021 19:20

Nope. They've done all our police, prison officers and council staff that way, but no queue jumping for naughty school staff.

CarrieBlue · 17/03/2021 19:27

No and forbidden to just turn up either as some areas have encouraged

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 19:30

Not here either. A colleague asked and was told firm no.

ChloeDecker · 17/03/2021 19:30

I wish that was being done here but no.

My BiL is Met Police and he says all of his ‘station’ have been done that way but no one seems to have thought to make one phone call to a school in the same borough.
To think how many vaccines have had to be thrown away because of this.
Grrrr.

No, nothing like that here either. I'm so fed up.

Has anyone heard from Name? Hope you're ok if you're reading!

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 20:12

I know some schools in a nearby large town have got deals with vaccine centres but our school wasn't interested.

SoFranCisco · 17/03/2021 20:15

My brother who works from home, no health conditions and is younger than me got his vaccine this week....looks like it will be at least May for me now as my area is still doing 55-60s. Of course I am pleased for him - but can’t help feeling just a teensy bit miffed after this announcement!! My other half, who also works from home, got his today - he is 55 and am relieved he will be safer if we end up with it in the house - but if he moans about side effects too much tomorrow I might have to bite my tongue not to tell him he is lucky to have had it!!
