You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

We have to report to school and nhs and have a page from which we have a link to school report page and nhs report page.

Just on a free and have nipped home to let the dog out. Could happily curl up and sleep more. One more lesson and bus duty to go!

Tonight I’m going to attempt to write an application for a tlr post. Have decided I will apply.

SansaSnark · 17/03/2021 13:43

Just had it announced that we are going to have book looks between now and Easter. Suggested by slt we spend half a lesson or so tiding books etc. My year 10s especially are so behind, so that's a really productive use of time.

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 16:07

Trying to decide whether it’s in a school’s interests to use them or whether they’ll just be seen as a complete waste of time.

Certainly for maths it was always going to be a waste of time. The minute the papers go live there’ll be fully worked solutions on YouTube.

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 16:10

That’s good that they refunded the deposit, DrMaddie. Cancelling must have been so hard to do. Flowers for you and your family.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/03/2021 16:10

So super parents and those who can afford tutors will ensure high grades. Twats

MrsHamlet · 17/03/2021 16:11

Well that is just stupid

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 16:27

I was categorically told by my exam board yesterday that the 2020 papers were not 'published'. This is the get out of jail free card they have been using as to why they are not producing new materials (because it says 'previously unpublished', not new in Ofqual guidance). The exam officer actually put in writing in a public forum that the 2020 papers would remain embargoed.

I do wonder/hope that TES have got the wrong end of the stick.

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 16:30

It was in the Ofqual consultation that the assessments would be released and available to students. I remember saying this was stupid in my response!

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 16:36

In other news (quite outing this but if colleagues spot me , they will agree with me!) we have now appointed another new HOY (internally. Another male. So two HOY jobs recently : 4 male applicants/ 4 female. 2 males appointed.

Here is our school leadership

Head : male maths
DHs : male science ; male science ; male science
AHs : male IT/maths ; male English ; male science ; female science

HOF : 4 males (science;maths; humanities; technology) ; females(MFL, English; Arts/PE)
SENCO : female
HOYS : male science; male maths; male PE; male English

Bloody hell... I just don't get why they can't see this problem!!

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 16:42

Blimey piggy, what’s the gender pay gap at your school? Must be enormous.

The exam materials thing has kicked off because it was confirmed at a DfE webinar at lunchtime today. Mark McCourt has posted some slides from it which you should all look at.
Says there will be a full autumn exam series for students unhappy with grades again which I didn’t know.

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 16:46

The gender pay gap in teaching was identified as a huge problem a few years back but no schools /MATs have been required to address it.

In black and white it looks really stark.

Not just gender, though. Look at those comfort zone subjects.

Previous head was a male scientist. Recently departed DH female scientist. (replaced by male scientist)

HSHorror · 17/03/2021 16:51

Managed to book! For asthma hospitalisation.
Also my friend at same gp (mid 40s so 4yrs older) is booked without any conditions. Yet they are saying they are only onto 50s?

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 16:52

Schools/MATs have to publish their pay gap don’t they?

My school also has a sausage party SLT, but a wider spread of subjects.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/03/2021 17:00

We have:
Head (male mfl)
DH (female mfl); DH (male geography)
AH (male business studies); AH (male music)

Hoys: female (mfl), female (science), female (science), male (science), female (pe).

So SLT are male heavy, but hoy level is female heavy (and science is over represented there).

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 17:01

That's good horror!

There is a certain staff size above which you ahve to report gender pay gap. Not sure what that is or what 'report' means.

Any school will claim it is because of TAs and part time staff being largely female.

I forgot from my list before:

Head of exclusion /inclusion/whatevs unit : male PE

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 17:02

There is national data on this somewhere. It has definitely changed in terms of subject specialism over the years.

Someone just asked on Twitter! I can't post my thoughts as my head will see it!!

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 17:05

gender-pay-gap.service.gov.uk/ 250+ employees. My MAT is on there.

MrsHamlet · 17/03/2021 17:12

We have:

HT - male - history
Dht - 2 female - one mfl; one maths
Aht - 3 male (two science, one music) 1 female (mfl)

HOYs are all female bar one (pe x2, science x2, English)
Ahoys all female bar one (dt, maths, geog, pe, non teaching)
Sixth form deputies are one male one female (English and psychology)

RandomGrammarPun · 17/03/2021 17:18

Gender pay gap in my MAT is positive for females! The HTs of the largest schools are all female. The CEO is female. All of the SLTs (that I know of are equally balanced) Grin

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 17:25

Not on there noble. Not a MAT. Think my school has about 200 employees.

It does look like my school is shockingly bad looking at other answers on here!!

All the local heads are male. I do think this might be a feature of 3 tier schools.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/03/2021 17:34

All the local heads are male. I do think this might be a feature of 3 tier schools.

Do you mean the upper schools all end up with male heads because all the "serious stuff" is seen as being there, no room for touchy-feeliness?

(Our area was three tier until about 6 years ago).

oddsbodkins · 17/03/2021 17:36

3 bubbles have burst in my school today. That's 3 classes out until after Easter. I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

CarrieBlue · 17/03/2021 17:42

No more vaccines for under 50s - I’m absolutely fuming.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/03/2021 17:52

A four week hold up, apparently.
