You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

So we agreed on our piss poor awarding plan last week.
No matter that some classes had already been told...
Today I find out from my students that one class has been given more specifics than agreed.
What the fuck is wrong with people?!
And my best friend has cancer and I am angry and sad and scared.

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/03/2021 20:29

@MrsHamlet that’s shit, especially about your friend. Sorry to hear.

MrsHamlet · 17/03/2021 20:31

I'm so angry about it all.... the person in charge just couldn't give a shit and my tact filter is now very faulty.
I just want it all to stop.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/03/2021 20:32

Oh MrsH that's awful re your friend.

HarrietDVane · 17/03/2021 20:32

MrsH I am sorry to hear about your friend. I hope they've caught it early.

namechangedyetagain · 17/03/2021 20:35

Oh @MrsHamlet that is shit Flowers and Gin for you.

Had a much better day. Observation went really well to my surprise. Mentor and DH seemed really pleased and DH said that they'd like their child to be in my class as it felt warm, safe, i had a good relationship with the children and learning was personal.

AND. I have an interview! Which I'm now completely wetting myself about. So many tasks to do and think about. Feel slightly unprepared but I really need sleep tonight so can't worry about it today.

I am in a state of shock and have opened wine. On a school night !

Frlrlrubert · 17/03/2021 20:43

We have:

HT: male, Was PE
DH: male, PE
SLT: 3 male, 2 female, PE, Geog, Physics, PE, Maths
HoYs: 3 male, 3 female, PE, ICT, PE, PE, English, Food Tech.
HoDs: a mix but mostly female

Yes, most of of senior staff wear tracksuits to work, even in their non-teaching days. Not the HT though, he doesn't teach at all.

JanFebAnyMonth · 17/03/2021 20:50

Oh name well done (didn't we tell you?!). Lovely news.

Just realised I forgot about our Heads of Fac, and they're 5/6 male!

HarrietDVane · 17/03/2021 20:55

Brilliant news Name! What tasks have they set you? We are here to help...

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/03/2021 21:01

So sorry to hear about your friend MrsH. I hope it's been caught early enough for effective treatment. And sorry you've got blabber mouth colleagues giving away details they aren't supposed to.

Yay name!!!! So glad it went well!!! And yay for the interview too!!! 🎉🎉🥂 We'll all help with smashing the interview tasks if you let us know what they want you to do. We know you're brilliant, and eventually we'll persuade you to believe it too.

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2021 21:05

My DH had a near brush with this man. He coached him and his DBro. We have a photo of him with his arm round him at Butlins. DH had a lucky escape. Creepy.

phlebasconsidered · 17/03/2021 21:13

I am thinking I might book as an unpaid carer. I'm not down as one with the gp, mum just lives with me, but the actual carer who pops in in the day for a few hours said I should just do it.

Wouldn't they expect details though?

We had two bubbles pop today already. Our rate is up to 250 and 160 just outside the school area.

HarrietDVane · 17/03/2021 21:18

I would do it Phleb - you are an unpaid carer if your mum lives with you.

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 21:20

Did you see this thread, phleb about that?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4195033-any-vaccinators-on-here

phlebasconsidered · 17/03/2021 21:20

I think I might. I'm not down as a carer though on my record but it doesn't seem to ask for that on the website.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 17/03/2021 21:20

2 out of our 3 LFT were negative with a PCR! Parents are raging as public health says they do have to isolate.
Sorry to hear about your friend MrsH, I hope she can start effective treatment soon.
I'm feeling a bit guilty about being sub-40 and having a vaccine appointment, but I think it's because of my clotting issues. Heck knows when my husband will get done now though.

noblegiraffe · 17/03/2021 21:24

Really sorry about your friend, MrsH

phlebasconsidered · 17/03/2021 21:24

I mean, she can manage in the day and so on and a lady pops in on some of the days I work but no way could she manage to go shopping without me or do anything else. I think I will. If I get it and am ill then she's left at the mercy of my teens cooking.

HarrietDVane · 17/03/2021 21:26

Don't feel guilty Hobnob - they wouldn't call you if you weren't meant to be prioritised.

Still no idea when DH and I will be done - both late 40s, mild asthma, I am obese but not big enough to be a priority. Both out working face to face in the community but not in the right lines of work to get the call. Some over 50s have been done here but they seem to be people with health troubles.

eitak22 · 17/03/2021 21:36

hamlet that sucks about your friend, I'm so sorry. Hope you manage to sort out the CAGs information, seems unfair for some to share more info.

namecongratulations that's amazing news! As others have said let us know what the tasks are. I'm still attempting applications but gave up on current one as I know it's too far to travel.

namechangedyetagain · 17/03/2021 21:40

So interview tasks a planning and marking activity, a KS2 lesson guided reading text of my choice( but KS2 is quite wide). Should I get to afterlunch. A presentation on my proudest moment in teaching. This is hard because my proudest moment isn't about progress or any of those things but building relationships quickly with vulnerable chn (which allow them to feel safe in school) and then an interview. Goodness. That seems so daunting to me.

So yes any help gratefully received!

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 17/03/2021 21:41

Not teenager cooking phleb! I say this as someone who in their teenage years managed to screw up cooking micro chips 🍟 🔥

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 17/03/2021 21:42

MrsH sorry to hear about your friend. Life's an absolute bitch sometimes.

Great interview news name! sansa how was yours?

So many questions from staff today about the awarding process and cross centre moderation being impossible therefore grades won't be fair. I get that but we need to move on and get over it. We'll be fair, the majority of others will, if they aren't then hopefully ofqual will spot that and investigate. One spent 2 hours on the phone to the exam board and learnt nothing more than what the consultation said.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 17/03/2021 21:44

name the proudest thing could absolutely be about relationship building. We have gone off candidates before due to them coming over a bit cold and distant, and that's in secondary.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/03/2021 21:50

Sorry about your friend MrsH.

We're primary but with a large SLT as a legacy of being 2 separate schools that amalgamated.

I was used to the primary model of one HT, non teaching. One DH, who had a class full time - I'm old enough to have started teaching pre PPA and there was no management time given either.

We now have...
HT - male.
3x HT. All female. 1 f/t. 2 job share. One in each key stage.
Then 2 x TLR2 (me in KS2, male in KS1 - sun shines out of him as only male in KS1 obv...)
